  1. Re: The fine Elven Mithril/Mithral Shirt from the Lord of the Rings movie Definitely, it would be linked to the HKA like a poison is usually written up. In any case, appropriate levels of armor for chain, without the 'real armor' limitation, as an IIF... plus the power resistance, plus if you feel the need to boost the armor more add a bit more defense (Combat Luck maybe?) as needed.
  2. Re: The fine Elven Mithril/Mithral Shirt from the Lord of the Rings movie Just because I'd model the 'never healing' nature of the Ringwraith's blade as a very long-term Drain... I'd throw some Power Defense on the mithril armor...
  3. Re: Kingdom Hearts Namine' Her memory manipulation seems be be an extensive Mental Transform (with some setting specific ramifications to go along with that about heartless and nobodies), plus some Telepathy: only to know memories. The drawing powers, which I don't recall the exact details of to be honest, would probably be a transform, summon, or VPP (depending on how extensive they are and if they can do living things). If they only happened in the 'false' computer-sim world, the tower, or one of the stranger nobody-centric worlds... it might again be just a setting result of her mental powers.
  4. Re: Help with a goofy power build This might just be a Distinctive Feature, depending on how useful it ever ends up being...
  5. Re: EDM as 'Total Invulnerability' I agree that calling it the 'Invulnerability Zone' is not really what I am after... just trying to mirror the existing 'Mental Zone' and 'Speed Zone' and the like. Really, this does work best for the SFX of people being actually elsewhere, either spatially, temporally, or dimensionally. The original character was, at it's heart, temporally displacing itself to achieve the invulnerable state. This same power write up, with some adjustments on the 'barrier' aspect, seems to also work for a friend's undead character that could 'abandon' the host body and return to the afterlife with no care about what happened to the shell while she didn't occupy it... again, actual displacement as the SFX for the invulnerability model.
  6. Re: Brain Trust - Duplicating the Mind As long as we are not trying to copy mental powers... I would go with a Summon Mind also, or if you are ready to stretch the rules a bit... a VPP of either Duplicants or Skills and Mental Stats
  7. Re: Rocky's One-Hit-KO Punch Rocky seems to have something like a triggered STR Aid when he is almost out of stun... or just STR with -2 only when at 5 stun or less... that combined with all the above makes it pretty devastating. Also, as a protagonist, he has Hero Points or whatever right?
  8. Re: EDM as 'Total Invulnerability' and still wouldn't stop attacks based on Power Defense, NND, and probably still a few arbitrary environmental effects that I am not thinking of at the moment. While a bunch of extradimensional powers with a build like this would reek of cheese, I don't think the immobile statue would break too many games.
  9. Re: Question on a power build Sticky, I think, already allows for such effects. Usable as attack is probably not necessary... I would go with something like... Darkness to Sight Group 5m radius, Personal Immunity (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Sticky (+1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2) (69 Active Points) Sticky and Uncontrolled both require some reasonable way to stop the ongoing power, but not knowing what kind of sticky-darkness this is I leave that up to you
  10. Re: EDM as 'Total Invulnerability' The problem with Desolid is it leaves you... so vulnerable Ironically. Not to powers particularly, but to various environmental effects. EDM invulnerability helps against suffocation, drowning, sleep deprivation, ongoing poison damage, crushing gravitational forces, mental powers, Presence Attacks, and a host of other things that most desolid builds just don't hold up against. Also, more random villains seem to be built with an 'affects any form of desolid' power than an 'affects any dimension' power, although specific villains would probably develop the latter if a hero like this were running around.
  11. Re: Building a Good Base 'Gate Keeper', although a poor Solo Superhero, has been a vital member of the Champions... his extra-dimensional prison realm has held, and indeed continues to hold, some of the most world-threatening villains and cosmic horrors the world has ever known.
  12. Re: How to build: "Mental Block" Mind Control has only a few downsides in regular play to Telepathy... the one that has come up most for us is the utility it has on Sleeping or Unconscious people. Then again, if we agreed that the Mental Shapeshift would fool yourself as was discussed before, it is an even more fitting defense! Mind Control: 'Tell me who you really are'... "I am Batman!"
  13. Re: Building a Good Base A Teleport can be made 'Penetrating', which lets it get through the 'Cannot Be Escaped'... but the wall can be Hardened to stop that... and so on. Let the escalation of arms begin!
  14. Re: EDM as 'Total Invulnerability' Just for reference, this is sort of what I came with... Temporal Shell: Barrier 5 PD/5 ED/1 Mental Defense/1 Power Defense/1 Flash Defense: Sight Group, 40 BODY (up to 1m long, 1m tall, and 1m thick), Non-Anchored (75 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Restricted Shape (-1/4), Unified Power (-1/4) Temporal Invulnerability: Extra-Dimensional Movement (Single Dimension) (20 Active Points); Linked (Temporal Shell; -1/2), Costs Endurance to Maintain (-1/2), Unified Power (-1/4) Aware of Surroundings: Perceive into a single other dimension with Sight Group and Hearing Group (20 Active Points); Unclear Perceptions (-1/2), Unified Power (-1/4) OR An attack 'temporal banishment' version of this power might look like... Temporal Banishment: Extra-Dimensional Movement (Single Dimension), Usable As Attack (+1 1/4) (45 Active Points); Linked (Temporal Prison; -1/2), Unified Power (-1/4) Temporal Prison: Entangle 8d6, 7 PD/7 ED (75 Active Points); Unified Power (-1/4)
  15. Re: EDM as 'Total Invulnerability' In this case, there was no 'affecting the world' except as a immobile barrier... hence linking it to Barrier Stand in front of speeding train, prop up collapsing sealing, spread arms in front of gunfire directed at civilians, that sort of thing. Guess I'd have to be wary of arch-nemeses inventing Transdimensional Attacks that affect my 'invulnerability zone' at a measly +1/4
  16. Partially because of the Suspended Animation thread that has come up, but also because it was on my mind last week... How do people feel about using Extra Dimensional Movement to represent total invulnerability? I had an old character from another system that could freeze herself in time, leaving a 100% indestructible statue of which she had (limited) sensory awareness about what was happening around it... as long as she could hold her breath. She could also be 'broken out of it' with sufficient force. A Multiform of hugenormous defenses was the old write up I did when converting her but... would a 1x1x1 (no range, etc etc) Barrier (in the shape of a statue-like me), and an EDM 'linked' to the Barrier work for that? How about the inverse? Would a UAA EDM linked to an Entangle work to freeze someone in a completely unaffected state until 'broken out' of the Entangle?
  17. Re: symbiote, how whould i make it? If you are looking for the symbiote as a separate character, that can transfer between hosts and such... APG Possession + Linked UOO Multiform?
  18. Re: 1d6x2 attack I could see it as slightly advantageous in the long run... the statistical averages balance out, but against heavily defended targets the burst has value. Example: 5d6 RKA against a bricky target with 25 rDEF... the base 5d6 has a what... .7% of doing any damage at all? Whereas the 1d6X5 has a 19%ish chance of doing 5 damage. The stun, of course, would make all the difference... but what about against Automatons or objects that have no stun? Then the 1d6X5 is a real killer! I know which one I'd rather have when trying to shoot out an Unobtainum lock in a timely manner. Still... given you are really just playing with a probability curve... if it didn't get out of hand I would still call it a +0
  19. Re: How to build: "Mental Block" I... would guess that a mental shapeshift doesn't confuse one's own natural thinking (unless the SFX was 'self delusion' or autohypnosis or something), but rather I envision it (in this case) as a lie of a secret ID so practiced that it is virtually another personality. Not every secret ID type would have that sort of life, but... Batman/Bruce Wayne might have that sort of dichotomy.
  20. Re: How to build: "Mental Block" An always on Mental Shapeshift can (fairly cheaply) keep secret IDs safe from all but the most diligent Mentalists

    Riddles

Re: Riddles Riddles, like social gameplay, always have a strange player/story dichotomy to them... riddles are generally solved by the player, regardless if they are a 2 INT Ogre or 25 INT Gadgeteer... and Thor help you if you are dedicated to saying your character (and thus you) have no interest or skill in helping solve the puzzle! They make good literature and fiction as a 'mental obstacle', but that never really translates to game-play well. How to handle it well... tough to say. Deduction/INT rolls to get hints? Or... correct guesses give bonuses to the Deduction/INT roll for the actual character to guess the answer? Either way, it fits together oddly and rarely comes out organically.
  22. Re: 1d6x2 attack that is inspiring to me somehow... I have a character with a huge hard to aim attack that cuts through armor, and have it written up as a NND (dodge defenses) only attack... But a 5d6 RKA built on this model, with a low roll being a 'glancing blow' and a high roll being a devastating direct hit... 30 Body BAM! Seems like an interesting model.
  23. Re: Building a Good Base For servant robots, spirits, indigenous friendly animals and the like, I prefer some sort of 'always on' or 'triggered' Summon. Makes them more expendable (the base can repair or make more!), and clearly a power of the base. As per the examples in the book, LS effects automatically affect everyone inside a base (or vehicle), but it is not clear that other powers have similar effects. A base with anti-gravity fields may need mega-scaled UBO flying, or may not... not 100% on this one.
  24. Re: Deflection Vs Area of Effect I second the 'can be deflected' limitation being used every time it is appropriate... grenades can be baseball-batted back at someone in a theatrical setting!
  25. Re: Hero doesn't have complete control over powers I would probably do a complication as well, as either a physical or psych limitation (depending on if I can 'focus' and make the powers work with an ego roll), or maybe even a 'Berserk' if the powers instead just go weird for a period of time. 'Limited Control' or something of it's like is -1/4 modified under Teen Heroes I think, but I can't recall the exact reference. Powers activating on their own, though, in a beneficial way could be a SFX of danger-sense or triggered precognition? If it happens every time, just make a triggered or persistent version of the power.
