  1. Re: Conceptual Idea: A world full of supers Any situation highly reliant on a balance of power would be thrown way off... teacher VS student, prisoner VS guard, cubicle monkey VS overbearing boss, child VS parent... if the super-power disparity gets too strong in those type of situations there will be trouble. ESPECIALLY if there are mentalist/social/mental powers thrown into the mix... what do you do when your son has 23000 IQ and all you have an indestructable hand? Also, not every power is good... especially when your kids/students/whatever have them! I'd hate to be a new mother of a child who has 'LS: never sleeps'! and 'Costs 0 END' on Strength and stuff...
  2. Re: Odd idea for initiative/action completion Some generations of World of Darkness do this as well, sort of. Initiative is determined, later acting people declare actions, faster acting people declare after to take advantage of this. The slower people can then change their actions when it actually gets to their turn, but suffer an increased difficulty on the roll due to their 'slower reaction' to changing circumstances.
  3. Re: Would your Hero endorse a polititian? Economaster has been known to show support for policies, and is active in the financial/political arena on occasion, I think it would be rare for her to support someone and skew the 'free market' aspects of Democracy. More likely to OPPOSE a politician I just about misspelled politician as 'PoliTitan'... a horrid, if persuasive, supervillain?
  4. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See? Discussion of 'death' as a game concept... What it would take to affect dead characters How to build powers that continue to operate after death Resurrection: Tricks + Builds (example: regrowing a body in a different location than where your corpse is)
  5. Re: Immunity to cancer While real cancer is multi-causal... fiction cancer is usually from radiation, or an old-age thing (or to create heartbreaking bald children characters.... which are rarely superheros) LS: Radiation and some level of LS: Reduced Aging probably cover the practical fictional manifestations of cancer
  6. Re: Fading Stars...when and why should superheroes retire? Your call to duty has also retired... your big name villain has died or otherwise finally been stopped for good; there are no more Nazi super-soldiers to track down, the Red Menace of communism just isn't as menacing anymore. Whatever drew you into the fight, or kept you there, is gone. You might even be embarrassing to modern sensibilities: you helped fight dictators, but inadvertently helped put worse men in power. Or perhaps you fought for the morality of a previous age, would your old battles fighting predominantly black street gangs in your youth seem racist in the modern perspective? Was your championing of the American Way a bit jingoistic in the modern international super-community? Did your fight against 'atheist communist Russia' make modern freedom of religion types uneasy? You are a hero of a past age fighting battles long gone, and you find that either your purpose is gone or you are an outdated relic of a previous age.
  7. Re: Ward to keep out vampires How about using Psychokinetic variation of Telekinesis to force them out? Works on mental stats right?
  8. Re: Hearing Prayers The character is a sort of 'rogue angel' for a magic-heavy Superhero game... tired of the prayers of mortals going unanswered for so long, a spirit has gone 'off the grid' and started answering earnest prayers of the good of heart (especially children) itself. The urban legend being spread about the variety of names the spirit can answer to in prayer are being spread across the poorer parts of the globe. If it were a big plotly God type, I would agree with the 'power in the prayer' part; but as this is a more personal power I thought I should stat it out more. Features: Global (or more, space travel and all that...) Transdimensional (used from the 'spirit world' before manifesting in the physical world) Not Language Dependent (the intent of the prayer is the important part)
  9. Re: Encyclopedic General Knowledge Computer Access + 'Mind Link' to 'Any One Computer Class Mind' (-1 only to steal wireless connection)

  11. Re: Counter-stereotyping The Dumb Gadgetter: A technical savant, or just a rich guy who buys all his goodies... but no 'team brain', just a boor with neat toys. The anti-environmental Nature Powers: Weather/plant/animal control... no 'eco-friendliness'. Nature is just my tool, exploited towards whatever my goals are (heroic or villainous), no particular need to work with it (or perhaps actively hostile/manipulative towards the natural world) In a fantasy game, one of my favorite characters was 'the good necromancer': saw no problem with using people's bodies once they were done with them, was constantly confused or argumentative towards people who accused her of practicing 'dark arts'
  12. How would you build the ability for some spiritual being to hear the prayers directed at it? My first thought is Mega-scaled AOE Telepathy with No Conscious Control... any other ideas?
  13. Re: Ward to keep out vampires I agree, though it is setting dependent. After all, it is possible that vampires DON'T have to be invited into a house, that is just an urban myth that became popular because of how many mystics have historically known this 'vampire warding spell' and put it on stuff. A barrier 'only VS vampires' has the benefit of lasting indefinitely once set up, though seems a bit kludgy in the sense that a really strong vampire could break it down, which seems... out of sorts. EGO or PRE should be the key-stats it seems. CE, Mind-Control, Triggered Mental-Entangle... lots of ways to go, I'll have to stat a few out to see what looks good.
  14. Re: Star Trek: How dangerous are phasers? That Phaser MP needs the 1d6 RKA with 3X Penetrating for the (admittedly few) times they show them slowly 'cutting' through really hard stuff with phasers. And a Self-Destruct Mode
  15. Re: Help with Transform In the section about toolkitting Growth/Shrink/DI; the disadvantages that come with those powers are 'Side Effects' that 'activate whenever the power is used'. I imagine the same thing would be true of this shapeshift power in regard to the disadvantages you gain. Just have to decide if 'No Manipulating Limbs', 'Cannot Speak', and perhaps 'Affected as Animal and Human class minds' is Minor, Major, whatever. I'd tally up the points and compare it to the growth states or something, but I am away from books right now. Also, as a side note, I'd probably make the shrink and shapeshift 'costs endurance only to activate'
  16. Re: Fear (5th Ed) CE, for -PRE rolls, which immediately prompts a PRE roll or flee in panic is also a way o go.
  17. Re: Help with Transform As with all things in this system, there is more than one way to do this. First, and most straight forward, would be a 'Multiform' power; with a write up of their avian forms on a separate sheet. Slightly more complicated, but sometimes also appropriate, would be a 'Shrink' power to get to the correct size, and then a variety of powers Linked to the Shrink... Flight, Enhances Senses, Shape-shift (into the bird looks) This second option allows the players to keep access to all their old abilities and such without duplicating them all in the Multiform.
  18. Re: Damage Reduction Vs. Extra PD/ED Ive used it twice... Once when combining it with quick regeneration, which worked well... And once linked to a growth power, because fighting other giant opponents is exactly when those more than typical DCs started appearing. Combined with other defenses it can make your character a bit more 'unique', but like Damage Negation you often just break even or less for not having just went with more Damage Reduction
  19. Re: A "Save Spot" for a group of PCs I like the triggered precognition as well... if just one character did this, I would force a EDM/resurrection/whatever construct, but as a whole party mechanic this is just precog with some interesting SFX
  20. Re: STR Minimum: somewhat overcooked? Besides, in weightlifting competitions you would expect the performers to push or haymaker or whatever-you-can-do to make that extra bit of lift, right?
  21. Re: I need a Chinese Super Team. How about a two-for-one in the 'twins powers' category to capitalize on the yin/yang Taoistic duality (or similar 'inclusive, non-competitive duality' found in other eastern philosophies)... Like... two high stealth mentalists (Yin and Yang) that can heal and resurrect each-other. Start with an encounter with just one, then have them try to figure out how the original keeps escaping/surviving. Culminating in a big show down with both of them together, perhaps in a 'cat and mouse' hunt through a crowded tunnel system, where finding BOTH at the same time and defeating them is they key to the encounter?
  22. Re: How does your Hero relax? Off Time Activities Economaster doesn't get a lot of 'off time', but does take the opportunity to 'stimulate the economy' throwing huge parties or going on ridiculous spending sprees when the opportunity presents itself. The Golem has limited opportunities, but does enjoy nature so exploring the woods, hiking, that sort of thing.
  23. Re: Transforming Into Monsters? add Partial Transformation for a slow decent into monstrosity with actual game effects of a slow transformation...
  24. Re: Single Most Powerful Super Hero EVER!!! When I think of super-powers that make one SUPER, I tend to think of two... First is Magic. Every other power, even to some degree 'power cosmic/reality manipulation' tends to (at least occasionally) get some 'real world explanation' that ends up limiting it somehow... Magic can just be MAGIC and who cares how it works or if it is reasonable or anything. It is what it is, it has no meaningful rules except how Magic happens to work for that character at that moment. It throws off the limitations of other power types, and thus ends up top. The second is Time Travel... sure it makes for awful stories and Deus Ex Machina writing; but Time Travel can trump SO MUCH. Anyone with an origin story, defeated before that happens. Anyone lose their powers ever? BAM! You better exist beyond time to stand a meaningful chance against a time-traveler with significant other powers. Combining those two, I would say 'Magik' is my #1 pick for powerful characters... Cosmic-Level Magic... check... Time Travel... check... host of other strange powers just for fun... check. Ruler of another Dimension, one fundamental to the existence of reality in the Marvel Universe... why not! Dr. Strange (another good contender in my mind) told Magik that her manipulation of time abilities were possible on an Omniversal scale. Who knows what *that* means, but heck if it doesn't sound intimidating.
