  1. Re: Powers change each day I would probably go with a VPP, since an MP with powers that you can't go back to later seems a bit wasteful...
  2. Re: Can you move backward? I agree, (although moving Up comes with gravity penalties) that facing while moving doesn't intrinsically matter much. However, unless you have some 360 senses, the risk of flying into things (buildings, jumping bricks) seems to be something to conciser.
  3. Re: Good special effect for Ranged Touch Sense? Taste is just a chemical sense like smelling... making it ranged is just a matter of increasing sensitivity and hanging the tongue out of your mouth. Ranged touch... Tremor/Vibration sense. Some sort of 'possession/psychic bonding of the surrounding area' SFX The Hitchhiker's Guide has the universe-famous Eccentrica Gallumbits, the triple breasted whore of Eroticon 6, whose erogenous zones are said to start some 5 miles from her actual body. Megascale ranged 360 touch!
  4. Re: Is Clinging a perfect substitute for Climbing? One can drain or dispel Clinging, but (barring GM Caveat) cannot do so with skills like climbing... Hence Spider-Man probably has both, since he doesn't immediately fall to his death when his powers are disrupted or not working right.
  5. Re: You are unappreciated when . . . The bank across the street from your public base is robbed, and the police don't inform you because they forgot you were there... ...and you ultimately stop the villains because they forgot too...
  6. Re: Superhumans changing the course of history It cuts both ways, of course... 9/11 would have been a much easier ploy to pull off with one strong mentalist giving commands to pilots from a distance... or a flying brick who could have just carried and thrown the whole plane. In most games I have played, supers were not as American-centric as they often are in comic worlds, so the assumption is that historical things happened about how they did because the actions of supers on both sides sort of canceled each other out in the large scale. In fact, one of the main 'behind the scenes' villains is an ex-Russian spy working with a middle-east terrorist group who's power is to set up day long 'Darkness: Mental, Precognition, Postcognition, Clairvoyance, Danger Sense' fields around individuals to carry out traditional terrorist-type stuff without immediate super intervention.
  7. Re: Teleportation Power Ideas? I had a character who used Gateway teleportation as her main schtick. I did entangles, barriers, and some Blasts/RKA by 'gating in' stuff (Rocks or Sand to bury people in, lava/acid/toxic waste to spray at people)... you could do this same sort of thing, albeit with some restrictions (Side Effects for having to travel with that toxic waste before you drop it on people!)
  8. Re: Electro Magnetic Pulse I like a Transform (severe) with Partial Transformation, with the 'healing condition' being appropriate repairs. Thus the EMP has the potential to completely shut down things, or just impair their functioning if you don't roll enough BODY... cinematic EMP seems to have the capability of doing both. It has the added benefit of already using Power Defense (which seems appropriate to me), AND only affecting electronics (IE: Limited Target) is more clearly identified... no paying extra like the dispel! The RKA is definitely a good way to go as well though.
  9. Re: Suggestions: Giant Elvis Fight Don't forget that, at least in his later years, Elvis had extensive experience fighting undead/supernatural based super-villains... some of those skills might transfer to fighting similar PCs.
  10. Re: Suggestions: Giant Elvis Fight Giant Elvis Impersonator? So... Mecha-Elvis? One should Surf, representing 'acting Elvis' Although the giant Elvi won't attack a woman, many have a huge amount of mind control/striking appearance to seduce women....
  11. Re: cool mechanics, but how would you do the story: EVO Don't forget some 'Universal Focus' Crystals with appropriate multiforms... dragon, elephant, electric eel, and all that! I loved that game when I was a kid, couldn't beat the end boss until I was grown up though.
  12. Re: Transmit Smell Not 'touch' itself, but a Touch sense, 'Detect Vibration (Simulated Sense: Touch, Range, 360) was part of a moleperson build once, and they had Transmit to send messages by tapping on the walls and such...
  13. Re: Limitation: Random Misfires I think some of the teen champions characters have this as a -1/4 and label it 'limited control', but I could be mistaken. Modeling it after Accidental Change sounds good to me though also, depends on just how 'random' the random trigger is.
  14. Re: Mind control question I'm not saying that you inflict the *need* for food, just the feelings that go along with it. We know we are hungry because of a chemical sense... it manifests as an empty feeling, and some people who have it go wrong feel starving all the time regardless of their physical needs. It is a sensory issue, like is common with people with prader willi syndrome. I guess the question is how much you allow MI to affect non-special senses. The defined 'sense groups' are the classic senses, but the body has so many more chemical and internal senses that we don't think about as much... hunger, sleepyness, fatigue, organ stretch reception (bloatedness)... or the sort of 'secondary' sensory aspects of our normal sensory information... dizziness/balance, proprioception, hot/cold sense, and the like. In my mind, all of it clearly falls under MI, even if your response to feeling the sensory input of a overfull bladder is usually pretty predictable in causing a certain behavior.
  15. Re: Mind control question Feeling hungry is a sensory thing, even if it isn't a defined sense group neh? I think the distinction is MC: "You want to eat a Cheeseburger" and MI: "You feel hungry" Of course... one could use TK to literally force their body to eat a hamburger... or force it down their throat... or use APG possession and have them eat it while you are in control, or... lets see... Summon a flying hamburger that then grapples itself down their throat? A NND blast defined as choking on a summoned hamburger? Hrm... maybe teleport one into their mouth or stomach. The ultimate solution would probably be a mental transformation to add the Psychological Limitation: Must always eat cheeseburgers (total)?

    Jinks

Re: Jinks Not many jink kids attend school, but dropping out or getting kicked out is a bit harder if your mutation makes you 'disabled' by federal law. Marie Hamilton, IE: Teach - The only open Jink on the highschool staff, Teach can suppress Jink powers by touch for a few minutes at a time. She is the head of the drop-in special ed resource room, and has good respect from most of the jink community (even the kids who choose to run the street instead of attend class)! Diego Pratt, IE: Racecar - An incredibly fast speedster, Diego's body isn't durable enough to take the speed. He has severely broken his legs so many times in the past, now uses a wheelchair almost all the time. Not quite so fast in the chair, but fast as any car. Recently started running with the Orphans part time, much to his parents dismay. Miriam Jackobson, IE: Shriek: Miriam's deafness is a blessing to her: if she wasn't born deaf she would become so quickly dealing with her super-loud voice! Loud enough to make everyone around her temporarily as deaf as her, and even break fragile objects at close range, Miriam struggles with knowing how loud she is really is. The district is glad she is going to graduate this year. Evan Gordy, IE: Wideeyes: Freshman, stares off in to space unresponsive a lot of the day but very bright when he is paying attention. Clearly a Jink (his eyes flash strange colors when he spaces off), but no one is sure of his abilities: he can actually use open wireless connections to access the net in his head. The school's open network has made his grades awful, but has done wonders for his World of FantasyHammer character's gear. Lucy Balabano, IE: Flip: Lucy's profound ADHD wouldn't be so bad, if she didn't also have superhuman agility. She can't keep her body still, and constantly flips, jumps, rolls, and does all manner of acrobatic feats at all hours of the day. The fact that she hasn't slept since she was four years old, and never seems to get exhausted from her antics has been hell on her single father (who is also a slightly armored Jink who works night shift as a janitor in a local office building).
  17. Re: Stigmata or other manifestations of divinity Appropriate levels of Body damage, from spontaneous appearing stigmata (or self-inflicted, if it is a more 'presence' and less 'divine' power)
  18. Re: Stigmata or other manifestations of divinity Not sure the 'point range' of the power you are looking for, but in the standard Supers 80 AP range, one could do something like this... Command Devotion: Summon 32 50-point Various Devotees, Expanded Class of Beings (Very Limited Group; +1/4), Slavishly Devoted (+1) (79 Active Points); Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (-1), No Conscious Control (Only Effects cannot be controlled; -1), Arrives Under Own Power (-1/2), Summoned Being Must Inhabit Locale (-1/2), Incantations (-1/4)
  19. Re: Hand to Hand Reflection HtH Reflection is a good tool for a Superheroic Martial-Artists type... of the 'drunken monkey' 'supernimble' variety who never really 'attacks' but somehow his enemies always end up beating themselves (or eachother) up. In fact... using Reflection with the 'any target' modifier to make someone swing at you but accidentally hit his friends is classic supers-martial arts.
  20. Re: What is the best thing to Drain to incapacitate? I like Drain STR... for strong guys, it cuts out their main oomph... for weak guys it means they can't carry their own costume without being encumbered. Naked guys tend to be strong guys... not a huge number of 'naked mentalists' to worry about.
  21. Re: Photographic Reflexes meh Id just allow the skills/talents in there and watch it carefully for exploitation. If one would allow a VPP of multiforms, skills/talents VPP seems less dangerous.
  22. Re: Photographic Reflexes Probably a Variable Power Pool of skills, martial arts, and 'super' skills. Limited based on how long the skills are retained.
  23. Re: Automaton Powers in 5th Ed Q) Why do giant mecha always get thrown around so much and trash the city when they fight? A) Takes No Stun divided their Size Related Knockback Resistance by 3!
  24. Re: Heroes TV show regeneration I agree that part of it is just storytelling, but Clair has shown an increasing reduction in her DCV... she barely cares to dodge attacks anymore. Part of that is for the bonuses on PRE attacks maybe... Besides, at her level of regeneration, it wouldn't be point effective to buy it all as the actual regeneration power... some of it is another defensive power of some kind.
