  2. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Please, let's remember--if you have superstrength, do not, in any circumstances, give another student a wedgie. We were picking cotton out of Ira Goldstein's cerebral cortex for a week last year after an . . . 'unfortunate' incident."
  3. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Daddy! Did you enjoy the pizza! I made it with Bea Arthur's pancreas!"
  4. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Quick! Somebody call the fire department before the observatory burns. Oh no! It's the freshly reanimated corpse of Bea Arthur, come back for vengeance! Run, Jeff Ross, run!" NT: At least vaguely family-friendly things you could do with the corpse of Bea Arthur.
  5. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat You can . . . no, I got nothin'. There are no uses for a d12. It's the mentally disabled, weak-boweled, red-headed stepchild of the dicing world.
  6. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Well I never would have expected good personal hygiene to have happened at Gencon 2009 but it did !
  7. Re: Invisibility vs. Sight I'd actually allow that, but I'd require the player to buy his Invisibility Usable by Others, Simultaneously, Area of Effect . . . oh, throw a few more advantages in there. "Can you be invisible to every conceivable form of sight? Yes. Can you actually afford the points? No."
  8. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment Playing a Gamma World Hero campaign just a few weeks ago. I'm playing a character who is outwardly a Pure Strain Human, but has a lot of powers defined as being "lucky"--3d6 Luck, damage reduction, armor, +2 to DCV, other things. In probably seven or eight gaming sessions, she'd been hit once, and had taken no damage at all. I had been joking about the whole point of my character being that she'd never take damage. So then there's my friend Brian who, to put it charitably, could make a combat monster out of a -25 point Incompetent Normal. He has high STR and DEX, martial arts, and a great sword, and has been sweeping multiple opponents doing 3d6+1K, just utterly destroying the opponents. So, we're coming towards the end of the night and we're escaping the ambush in a bar, and I'm fighting a couple guys, per usual not getting hit at all. He comes in and does his big swing and . . . rolls an 18. The GM, quite logically, states that his character is so into combat, he keeps swinging. And hits me. I burn my luck points hoping his re-roll will miss and . . . he doesn't. So, I brag about never getting hit, and about half an hour later, combat boy comes and take half my character's BODY away in one mis-hit.

  12. Re: The cranky thread My mother-in-law is visiting. She's interesting, creative, and quite nice, but might just be the most clueless person I've ever met. I can now define her in one easy sentence. There’s a big park system with a nice nature center a couple miles from our house, and last night the wife took the kids and her mom down there to go to this "fishing club", which basically means the park system has a bunch of poles and just invite people to come fish off a dock, one of those little "kill an hour in a park" sort of things. So, my wife tells my mother-in-law they’re going fishing at the nature center. My mother-in-law’s response? "Is it outside"? Please shoot me. The week my wife gets laid off, I get to experience my mother-in-law for the full week.
  13. Re: The cranky thread The best part? The place where she was working loves her. LOVES her. They've known for months the contract was going to be up and have been slowly working to get a new one for her, but it's a state agency and they @#$@!!! slow. They want her back badly, but the bureaucracy can't move fast enough. Oh, and just to keep up the complaints, I woke up this morning with a summer cold, and the 15-year-old cat who's been fading has taken to emptying her bladder on the kitchen floor. She hasn't been eating much, is wasting away, and now we're going to have to put her to sleep soon. Double @#$!!!
  14. Re: The cranky thread They actually offered to keep her on half-time at a significantly reduced rate of pay. Problem is, doing that, she'd be making almost exactly the same thing she can make from going on unemployment, plus we could then pull the kids out of daycare for the summer. Today she's going to ask them to lay her off, which isn't the kind of thing most people would request. It's a consulting firm and they'll keep trying to find her something, but waking up to go into work for no other reason than to pay daycare isn't something she wants to deal with.
  15. Re: The cranky thread Aaaaaand . . . there goes my wife's job. Not utterly unexpected, but hey, what a nice bucket of suck to find before going out for the evening.
  16. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Decide to experiment with necrophilia. Or cannibalism. NT: Ways an advertising company would sell cannibalism as being a good idea.
