  1. Re: ITT: You Give Me Ideas, I Steal Them While these are all super cool ideas, they're not quite what I'm looking for. I'm more interested in ideas involving super-cool things that require both tech and magic. The above ideas, while awesome, seem to be cyborg animals and bio-engineered creatures - I can see both existing without technology. Basically I'm working on a campaign that's a classic High fantasy campaign in which those deviously inventive gnomes eventually got around to cold fusion and nanotechnology. More examples: A Druid's Grove protected by metal and plastic eating nanites, so that no technology could get close. Stone Golems with shoulder mounted rocket launchers. A Minotaur with Doc Ok style tentacles shooting out of his back, who pins people with his robotic arms and pounds them down with his big ass wood club. Am I making my vision more clear?
  2. Re: Stacking Armor I don't understand what you're doing here. Can you give an example, please?
  3. Re: ITT: You Give Me Ideas, I Steal Them Bas-Lag books? I've never heard that phrase. But that's China Mievelle, right?
  4. I am working on a new campaign. I am always working on a new campaign. Anyway, it's got scifi and tech (much like RIFTS and Shadowrun). What I want to know is... What are some cool tech/magic hybrids? Creatures, items, places, whatever. And I'm not just talking guns with +1 ToHit enchantments. I'm talking AWESOME hybrids. Some things I've already thought of: Full conversion cyborg-angels, in which their wings are the only visibly natural part of them left. Sky Giant Special Forces Commandoes rappelling off of clouds and laying waste to the land-bound. Halflings on tiny rocket motorcycles with built in machine guns, like a miniature version of CarWars. And lest we forget, Vampire Ninjas. Now you give me more ideas, and get all cranky when they appear in a post later, only blended and awesome.
  5. Re: D20 Conversion: Metamagic Feats? I'm curious why you don't let characters buy the following: Naked Advantage: Variable Advantage (Limited Advantages - Only to buy off disadvantages in the power), Costs END (X4 END) So, if he wanted to ignore up to 1/2 of Lims, he'd buy it as a +3/4 Advantage - Double, -1/4 for the limited advantages. Amanda the Aquamancer is a big fan of the following spell: Amanda's Aquatic Attack of Alliteration: EB 5d6, Gestures, Incantations, OIF (Necklace). One day, Amanda the Aquamancer is attacked by an Angry Aardvark of Alliteration, and needs to defend herself. Unfortunately, she finds herself completely naked, as female characters tend to do in role-playing games, because fourteen year olds find it both taboo and hil-frickin-arious. Not having her Necklace, Amanda uses her Naked Advantage (Naked! Get it?) to buy off the OIF. She still has to chant and dance around (naked), but she doesn't need her necklace. After all that dancing, Amanda anticlimactically annihilates the Angry Aardvark, and allows herself an awesome afternoon of All-In-The-Family.
  6. Re: Quick, Easy Mental CoM Question Fox- You bring up some good points, and I can see where you're coming from in regards to your "Sentient" class of minds. BUT! You say that, "in general" you think it's a bad concept. My understanding of the usage "in general" would mean that that includes the notion of classes of minds, since that's how 5RE handles mental Powers. Generally, people do things by the book. So, assuming people have the standard classes of minds (Human, Machine, Plant, Animal, Alien), why do you think it's a bad concept? I'm curious about what kind of craziness I could be getting myself into.
  7. Re: Quick, Easy Mental CoM Question No, that makes total sense. I'll probably make it the middle one - "Common," I think. Common, Fully Impairing. My campaign will have a healthy bit o' mental powers.
  8. How much would you value a Disad for having multiple classes of minds? Like, a Plant Man or a Cybernetic Alien, who could be affected by Mental Powers that work with either of their two component classes of mind. That sentence construction is horribly awkward, but I'm not sure what there is to do about it.
  9. Re: Yet another cyber-question: Chipware Socket Um, I'm just curious about your limitations - IIF and Cyberware. IIF? Do your characters ever have their cyberware taken out? And what does the "Cyberware" limitation entail? I'm just curious why you didn't go with the book's idea of the -1/4 version of "Restrainable".
  10. Re: Time Control powers USPD, baby... Got a whole chapter on Powers built with the Temporal Manipulation Special Effect.
  11. Re: Pop Culture Hero? As far as women go... howzabout the three Angels? Barbarella? Bambi and Thumper?
  12. Re: Pop Culture Hero? Michael Knight and KITT from Knight Rider.
  13. Re: Hammer Awesome. Thank you very much.
  14. So, 5RE lists a "Hammer" as having an A/R cost of 26/9, but my build right now comes to 19/9. Can someone help me? Right now, I'm building it as Hammer: HKA 1d6, +1 Increased STUN Multiple (+1/4) (19 Active Points), OAF (-1), STR Minimum: 10 (-1/2), Real Weapon (-1/4) Real Cost: 9 Points
  15. Re: Why does STR vs. STR use Normal Damage Body? I'd be interested to know how GURPS handles Supers. In a Heroic game, that sounds awesome. Even when you get above 18, it works. 25 STR (which would cost 20 points), still leaves room to fail (with penalties, etc.) But when you get to SuperHeroic... I just can't picture a GM saying "Ok, make a Strength check minus 3." Player: "Ok, I roll an 11, minus 3 is 14... Yup, that's less than my guys 55 Strength."
  16. Re: What is Casual STR meant to be? I've always used Casual Strength as a rough estimate - I don't use the number, I just gauge it off of their max lift. I define it as whether or not you become aware of your muscles. I lift a bottle of soda, I'm more aware of the coldness and wetness of the bottle, not my biceps. I lift a light duffle bag, or push open a door, I'm not really aware of my body pushing. But a six year old child or an older person, they have to strain to push open a door. I'm a big, big guy. My female coworkers have to strain to lift the jumpstart box with two arms, I do it with one without thinking. Because I'm hyperaware of the effect size has on physical interactions, I also factor in size when dealing with Casual Strength. A 30' tall robot with a STR 100 can easily lift a tree. A 6' tall brick can't, not with me. Why? Because I'm 6'6", and I can lift 15 lbs. without trying. But a 15 lb, 30' tall structure made of balsa would will cause me to exert myself. -cK
  17. Re: CHARACTER: the dirt Is this guy a player, or an NPC Villain? If Villain, he can be over 350, especially since the ability to ressurrect himself desn't immediately help him in combat.
  18. Re: Super_Talk.com 6/29/05 People can make there own - I don't care. It's fandom work - all the copyrights belong to DoJ, not me.
  19. Re: Funniest ingame event The GM was 45, the Fighter was 40something, the Cleric was early thirties, and the mage and thief were in high school. It wasn't stupid GM testing (I did get pitted at 3rd level against the Turask - LAME), there were some low level acolytes trying to summon her, and we kept doing the wrong thing, and instead of stopping them, helped them. Time and time again, until the GM decided it was time for us to get eaten.
  20. Re: The Algernon Files come to Hero!!! Looked over the samples. Looks cool. I like it. Not that I would ever give up HERO, for anything, but M&M looks like a well crafted simple system.
  21. Re: Funniest ingame event My funniest moment was in a D&D campaign, all ages, back when I was in high school. Four mid level characters, ignoring all the signs, walk into a portal and summon the evil dragon god Tiamat. Oh boy. Characters look at each other and resign themselves to their fate. Fighter: "I pull out my sword and charge the dragon." Mage: "I start casting Fireball." Cleric: "I cast Continual Light at her eyes." Thief: "I pull out my Wand of Cannot Be Hurt By Tiamat!"
  22. Re: The Algernon Files come to Hero!!! What the.... Can I get a link to the press release?
  23. Re: Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company - Omigod... That is so awesome it makes want to carp myself.
  24. As shown in this thread. I think we all know who respective copyrights belong to. If a moderator/DOJ Rep doesn't like me doing this, please do what ya gotta. Hey guys. Last night I broke down and finally got myself a one year membership to Super_Talk. Don't know if it was worth the $29.95, but whatever. Anyway, I thought I'd share the stuff that pops up on the News Boards. There's a really cool photo of Holocaust just layin' into KnightBoy, but Simon won't let us link to images. (Sorry, had to do it!) I'll keep the HERO Boards updated on Super_Talk.
  25. Re: Stat Increase = Skill Increase? Ok, I've read a few pages, I'm not going to read any more. So what i'm about to say may have been said already. 1.) I believe by "Base Roll," when referring to "Base Roll = 9+(CHAR/5)", they are referring to the Skill roll before any circumstance/environment modifiers. 2.) The justification for knowing more about "Ancient Egypt Lore," when you get smarter (and shouldn't you really be looking for justification about why you suddenly got smarter), is that you are more able to make more connections between the facts you know. That's how I see it. (EDIT: I see that the smart-justification thing has already been noted. Jeje.)
