  1. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight (Thursday, February 24) That's a great idea! I hope you'll be able to schedule European time chats!
  2. Re: Background Skill in Combat No, as said above, there is no need for a WF when using your simple fists (it's quite natural for everybody, compared to the training with a weapon). "Strike" is the base maneuver, it includes a punch.
  3. Re: Background Skill in Combat In 6E2 (148-149), in the chapter about Electricity, there is something about the insulation of the target of a lightning or similar effects. It is up to the GM to consider the number of dice in the power as an average whatever the level of insulation is, or to decrease (or increase) the power effect depending on the level of insulation. The GM may even allow a limitation for powers affected by insulation.
  4. Re: How to build : a putrtefyied hand which become a group of bees The breath and heart trouble could be a "dependence" complication (dependence to using the ability with bees on the living forms). The attack iself could be a Hand Attack with some sort of AVAD advantage. It could be a side effect limitation on the Hand Attack power.
  5. Re: Super Heroic Behavior I find it weird that a superhero loses his powers if he behaves badly. What about the ones that become supervillains? They still have all their powers. If your players don't respect such rules if they aren't implemented with a system of Behavior Points, maybe you should redefine the campaign with your players, to make it a little darker, or something like this. By the way, happy to learn that there are other french people using Hero System! Welcome!
  6. Re: Poisonbrewing Hasn't the character any "code of honor" or doesn't she follow a specific religion? Maybe you could find a way to convince her that the use of poison must be very limited because it's very dishonoring. A few years ago I read a book from Kant (I suppose the english translated title would be something like "Project of perpetual peace"), in which he described a few things that should never be used during a war, because if they were used, I would never be possible again to trust the ennemy after the end of the war. One of those things was the use of poison. On the other hand, from a GM to player point of view, you might also tell her that if a character is using such poisons, NPCs could also make their own poisons... EDIT : OK, the title seems to be "Perpetual peace", here is a link with a summary : http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/kant/kant1.htm
  7. Re: A Newbie's first power Somewhere in 6E2, "Cannot be bounced" is said to be a -0 to -1/4 limitation, depending on the type of the campaign.
  8. Hi Steve! When a character wants to grab and throw another character (in the same segment), according to 6E2 62, the throw does not require an attack roll and takes no time. But in the paragraph "Throwing a character" in 6E2 82 I see "this typically counts as a separate attack action, so it cannot be performed in the same phase when the character grabs the object / character to be thrown". What am I misunderstanding? Thanks
  9. Re: Wire lines? Wire-lines could be the special effect for all the powers (detect electricity, clinging, energy blast, swinging, etc.)
  10. Re: A Newbie's first power If you want the light to be so strong that it will blind the target, you can link a sight group Flash
  11. Re: Lots of little spells Another alternative may be to use a skill like "Magic" to do little non-combat things (the "Power" skill in 6E1). What's wrong with the french accent?
  12. Hi! I don't have the Fantasy Hero genre book, and maybe it's discussed in it. I was wondering how to balance characters in an heroic level game, where spell casters rely mostly on their Powers, and warrior-type characters use armors, swords, etc. that don't cost character points. Are spell casters given extra points to compensate?
  13. Hi! Can someone tell me if this book (The Dragon Mandarin) available in pdf in the Online Store is for 5th edition or if it is older than that? Thanks!
  14. Re: Vehicle Point cost 6th addition I think the main problem here is: when trying to do the maths for the F-15 example, the OP's result is very high in comparison to the points indicated in the rulebook. How can this difference be explained?
  15. Re: Questions for my unidentifiable number of fans I've recently bought Foxbat for president, haven't had time yet to read it entirely, but the thing that makes me sad is the need for some other books to be able to use Ffp properly: I have Ckc and Arcane Adversaries, but not DEMON: Servants of Darkness, so I think at some moment I'll have a problem with the stats for the "classic morbane" or some other NPCs...
  16. Re: My character building technique (How to build Hero System Characters) Great guidelines, Tasha, thank you! I have just one question, on point 5 (character write-up): When is it the best time to buy characteristics ?
  17. Re: Personal immunity? OK, sorry, I've found it. I thought it would be in the adders of Area of effect, but it is in the advantages list...
  18. Hi! I'm building an attack as a No range AOE, with double knockback (the character kicks the ground, throwing away his ennemies). Without another advantage, I think the character is supposed to be affected by the attack. Is the only way to avoid this to take the "Selective" advantage? I can't recall where, but I have seen before an advantage "Personal Immunity"... Is this the solution?
  19. Re: Automaton regeneration I've found that in the Master list of limitations : Can Only Recover From BODY Damage In A Suitably Equipped Repair Shop Frequently, Greatly: 15 Points Type: Physical Description: This Disadvantage is generally only appropriate for mechanical characters such as androids and robots, though it could be expanded to include magical constructs as well, like golems and the undead. The character cannot heal damage on his own; he requires the assistance of technicians, a supply of spare parts, diagnostic tools, and so on. The time it takes to effect repairs once the character has reached the shop is up to the GM, but it is suggested that such repairs take at least a half hour per point of Body repaired. I think that's what I was looking for. For the REC, perhaps I'll sell it back and buy it with a custom limitation "Only to recover END", I find it easier than using END reserve... Thanks for your help. Is the limited REC I'm thinking about something "legal"?
  20. Hi! I'm building a character that is an automaton that takes no stun (but loses abilities when being hit). How can I simulate the fact that he cannot heal naturally but has to be repaired to recover losed BODY? I was thinking of setting REC to 0 and creating a special Healing power with limitations, but he will use REC to regain END lost via the use of some of his powers...
  21. Re: Weapon that does knockback with no damage? I haven't the book in front of me, but isn't it possible to create a Blast AVAD (Defense is Knockback resistance), with Double Knockback?
  22. Re: Rules of thumb for the "challenge level" of bad guy creation? Another question I still don't have an answer for, similar to yours, is how to balance an encounter between a group of PCs and a single opponent. I don't think that 3 175 points PCs will be able to tickle a 525 NPC... Does someone have a solution? (I don't want to hijack your thread, it's just that it seems to me that the answer will also be useful for you)
  23. Re: inflict berserk power What seems wrong with "Side Effect" is that it is a limitation, that will bring a discount to the real cost of the power, while this side effect is what the user is wanting to inflict to the target.
  24. Re: FRED Question I think that it still depends on the SFX, common sense and dramatic sense
  25. Re: inflict berserk power IIRC, in Final Fantasy VII, the fury was an more an aid to SPD than to STR. But I can't remember if "fury" and "berserk" were 2 different status
