  1. I was a child, the youngest of three brothers. My father was a Jedi, and he was going to start training me, since being a Jedi was a family business. My brothers were much older and already trained. I had a training lightsaber with a blue blade. It didn't cut, but it could sting. I was being trained in marksmanship, and I was standing on a wall aiming a Luger at a distant target. The training seemed to be VR-based in part, which featured people playing violins. I started tapping my feet to the music, but my father made me stand still so I could shoot straight. I then had to spend the night meditating under a large tree. I realized there was nothing to be afraid of, since there was only myself and the tree. So I settled down, and a middle-aged lady came by. and we had a pleasant conversation. I was suddenly myself again, and I was aware of my values, both personal and political. I found myself in a table with a group of people. We were playing a board game about life. It involved putting down cards during your turn to advance your position.
  2. Another idea I have rarely, if ever, included in my games is some disaster occurring in the setting. It can be a natural disaster like an earthquake or tsunami, or it can be a plague or epidemic. While they suck in real life, they can provide adventure seeds, from survival to search and rescue to finding a cure. You can find more ideas in this blog. Edit: While this list repeats much of the previous one, there are a few other ideas, including the repercussions.
  3. "We have lemon curd. This will go great with the Madeleines." "Curd?" "Yes." "Not Iraqi?" "Get out!" "NO! I have as much right to this kitchen as you." "Fine, I'LL get out!"
  4. Quote transferred to "Quote of the Week From My Life" thread, where it belongs.
  5. "Is that the Horn of Gondor in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?" What?
  6. Various sources (printed and online) have equated D&D currency to American currency. Hence, 1 gp = a dollar, 1 sp = a dime, and 1 cp = a penny. Since my solo game is set in fantasy California, I may just convert wealth to dollar amounts. GURPS does this already, so it's not a new idea. I won't use electrum or platinum coins; I'll convert them to the gp/sp equivalent. Gems will be listed separately from cash, but will be listed in the total gp/dollar value.
  7. My back yard is overrun with lilies.
  8. "You meet at an in...." And a follow-up:
  9. I was in some shack with my family when my sister picked something up. My mom asked if it was a toy alligator, but my sister said it was a dead baby alligator. After she threw it away, we all went for a walk. I was wearing white short pants. I noticed my zipper was down. I tried to pull it up, only to find the zipper was broken. So I went back to the shack to put on a pair of trousers. The door to the shack was an unpainted wooden door with the words "JUST LIKE STAR WARS" written on it. Anyway, I went in to change. A young woman saw the sign on the door and went in the house. I was still changing and ended up mooning her.
  10. Here's a scenario with terrain I hope to use in my games sometime. The (slightly modified) miniature and the pedestal (actually a base for a different miniature) are from Reaper. I built the shrine with wood and cardboard.
  11. Here's a new way to tell your fortune. Place a slice of Swiss Cheese on some printed material and read what's legible.
