  1. Re: Appearance Effects, special and other I've explained this before several times. It has all been beaten to death across several threads and I'm very sick of defending my preference like its a Federal case or a matter of religious dogma. If you don't get it by now you're not going to at least from me. and if you really, honestly believe I am so stupid that I assume every character will look identical without Comeliness or whatever Talent will do then I won't waste your time with further idiotic prattle particularly since it has nothing to do with this thread.
  2. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I am really curious how CSLs (one of things that sets Hero System apart for me) will work in 6th.
  3. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I haven't really seen them used that much aside from the official functions (Ego as breakout rolls, Com as complimentary, etc). I've improvised sometimes with them but it all feels vague and handwave driven and most people I've talked to about are nervous about making them "free skills" and not having many ideas (like what would a Body roll entail, for example). I don't mean devote a chapter or anything to characteristic rolls but a little fleshing out would be cool, perhaps some more mechanics that used them (like alternate Bleeding rules and LTE/Exhaustion effects and difficulties for for resisting infection, disease, etc for Con). I guess a way to put it is that most of the char rolls seem to be in a somewhat similar position to the characteristic that shall not named. They're there, you can use them but its easy to forget and, aside from limited guides, you're kind of on your own.
  4. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I know I keep beating this drum (belaboring the point on the internet? I know, I'm the only one. ) but Char rolls need a little more detail on what they do and can do aside from provide skill bases. I mean they're important enough you can actually by skill levels to increase them albeit cheaply (or could) but I've seen them so under utilized in the past.
  5. Re: Appearance Effects, special and other Barely there costume: +x Pre only to make Target hesitate (gape) and lose initiative to character -1, only vs targets that would be sexually interested/scandalized by the character's appearance -1/2 works once per encounter -1 requires a Com roll (or can be ignored) by a Ego roll -2 in 6th ed games) -1/2 Strategic Exhibitionism: +x Pre only to make targets lose phases/dcv due to surprise, shock, etc. -1/4 Gestures: um...flashing, once per encounter Character must have high com, striking features or an appropriate distinctive feature to utilize this effect. It doesn't nessecariliy have to be beauty. Jack Hawksmoor, for example, used it by exposing his alien modified and apparently very bizarre looking genitalia (I kid you not). Combat Flirting: CE to reduce DCV requires a Seduction roll, only against appropriate targets, constant incantations/gestures (provocative banter and suggestive movements). Innocuous Face: +x to Shadowing only to blend into crowds Joe Nobody: +x to Disguise, Persuasion and Shadowing only to blend and go unnoticed or remembered Tongue like a Razor: Negative Skill Levels 0 Endurance, persistent, Uncontrolled, Continuous, IPE, Extra Time: 5 minutes The character is so good at dissecting and demolishing someone's self esteem they can actually inflict penalties on their performance after just a short conversation. You WISH you could be me: The character looks so good, so perfect, so stylish they actually distract others with feelings of envy, low self esteem and worthlessness. CE: -x to int and ego rolls and skills. Ultimate Bully: The character is so terrifying, so imposing that her presence hit like a blow and weakens her foes resolve and courage not to mention influence due to the humiliating displays of fears she can generate (crying, cringing, loss of bodily function control): Drain Presence: 5 pt/5 minutes, Trigger: A Pre attack, Pre attack must succed by at least +10, Doesn't work on targets with Egos higher than the character's Pre. The Camera loves me: +x to all Oratory, Persusasion and Seduction Only over video medium, not in person
  6. Re: Jokes Very nice! I'll shoot you some rep
  7. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster The sad part is put the workers in white and make some of the people waiting injured and that would look like a lot of ERs...except less crowded.
  8. Re: House! Non End using powers can be included in Elemental including charactertics (subject to intensive GM review). This thread has shown me one thing. I've slowly accumulated allot of House rules
  9. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Ya know, I'm going to have to disagree with Tasha at this point. Ten Years from now people will still by talking about ***....probably on this thread
  10. Re: House! Considering: Breaking Pre down into smaller components but I'm not entirely sure what they could be.
  11. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far CVs with Advantages and Limitations, that does create some odd possibilities. For example, if your characters DCV comes from Desolidification like Sean mentioned or their Nigh Impenetrable Force Feild (Many attacks just bounce off or fail to affect the character) you could purchase any increase with this "Unified Power" limitation.
  12. Re: House! Vulnerability: The value of this Disadvantages varies according to how obvious its nature is: +5 Vulnerability is obvious due to common sense, widely know legend or simple deduction Ex: Fire to Water, Lycanthrope to Silver +0: Standard level that can be deduced by simple tests, observation or specific knowledge: Demons to holy items, Electricity to Cold based attacks -5: Vulnerability is strange or seemingly random and can only be deduced via intense testing/research, very specific knowledge or chance. A psionicist that is vulnerable to cold based attacks Enraged/Berserk can create other emotional effects besides rage such as fear, lust or greed Distinctive Features: Generally just more available than it seems to be in "official" champions material. Followers, Multiforms, Summoned Beings and Duplicates have Disadvantages and these do reduce their cost. The minimum is one the max diads are equal to the campaign limits without GM permission Mental Attacks are not automatically "visible" to their targets, that is they don't reveal the location and identity of the attack. Mental Awareness can reveal some of this information as can certain Ego and Int based skills. Mental attacks can be targeted through vision enhancements and clairvoyance brought as Targeting. Powers in EC are considered to be one power for the Purpose of Drain, Suppress and other Adjustment powers. Considering: Replacing the current Bleeding rules with something based on Con rolls. No details yet. Splitting Dex into three different stats as per the Ultimate Speedster Changing the calculation for Skill rolls and Combat values.
  13. Re: House! 4th Regen and Instant Change Ambidexterity 3 points x3 Stun Multiple Major characters make a Con roll if they take damage over their con to resist stunning Sexual/Romantic Seduction can use Comeliness as a base Some PS based on Com and adopting some of the suggestions from "base on the Com" Megascale movement can only be used out of combat unless the character actually accelerates up to it in combat time Teleportation is an exception and requires a turn in combat to use. Negative Comeliness imposes a penalty on Interaction skills (-1 per 2 points below 0) but does not count anything. For "realistic" games, human characters are DCV 3 vs firearms and other high tech ranged attacks but can Dive for Cover to either drop prone or get behind cover DFC doesn't automatically make non area attacks miss. It essentially just allows a character to abort to movement and the attack is calculated as if they were in that new position if they're successful. If an HTH attacker has enough movement to close with them they can on a successful dex roll but suffer a -2 OCV for that attack. Successful use of Acrobatics (-3) can reduced DFC to a 1/2 phase action. I use Quirks and Hero Points in more cinematic games. Interaction skills have enforced results, varies between games depending on how "social" I want them to be. Varying according to lethality, certain amounts of Stun that get through Def cause a point of Body. There's probably more but that's off the top of my head. Considering: Killing will become an Advantage (+1) similar to AVLD. The face value on the dice will be the Body done by the attack and Resistant Defenses will stop the Body and Stun. Stun will be generated either by a x3 stun multi or 1d4.
  14. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I'm willing but I've learned to love indexes after dealing with White Wolf.... yeesh Having no idex is one thing, having a bad index is another but having a bad index wherein you went out of your way to put in "amusing" jokes is just over the top. Its says "Not only do we not care about quality, we're openly mocking you for doing so." DOJ has and always will have WWGS beat all to Heck and back when it comes to quality control and customer service
  15. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Lets not go that road again. Some people like it, others don't. Frankly the seemingly constant "I don't understand how you could like this like its some bizarre alien ritual and mental aberration to have liked the stat feel both a little insulting, baiting and rubbing salt in a wound, admittedly a small one but a wound none the less Just accept there is no accounting for taste. It's officially gone from 6th edition, will not trouble your games anymore with its existence and, hopefully will be cast onto the trash heap of history like all other objectively bad ideas. Com is dead, long live Striking Appearance. (sarcasm)
  16. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far First post of the characteristics thread in the 6th ed forums Emphasis mine. To be fair the connotation of that statement can be take in different ways.
  17. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I got into Fifth pretty quickly as I had a much more positive buzz about it at that time. It took me awhile to get revised and sometimes it still feels like a waste of money. Very possible. Among other reason peer pressure can be potent unless you're just dead set against something. I admit that's mainly the reason I have revised.
  18. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I've had my games called more soap opera than superhero more than once.
  19. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Two Weapon Fighting negates off hand penalties on its own when you use it so if your only purpose is combat getting it and ambidexterity would be a little redundant.
  20. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Or at least misleading and frustrating hyperbole similar to "Figured characteristics are being removed in 6th edition" versus "the concept of figured Characteristics is being removed in 6th edition"
  21. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Comeliness: Complimentary skill roll to Interaction skills, Comeliness roll which would allow for skills to be based on it. Measure of physical appearance granular enough to have character be different without nessecarily having major mechanical effect (For example: The Mary Ann vs Ginger effect. They might near idenetical Comeliness scores but Ginger is more effective at using her thanks to having more Interaction skills than largely guileless Mary Ann but Mary Ann's attractiveness does effect people's reaction to her). That's one the things I found interesting and flexible about Comeliness. Having little function not the same as having no function. It has a limited function. OTOH, it does provide a skill roll that could be used to base PS or other skills on or just for raw rolls (say to distract someone with your appearance). Personally, I don't mind that it was mostly Complimentary. Con without figures is a Stun meter, Body is hit points. The only reason they have a higher cost if they are useful in combat. As it stood, it probably shouldn't have had a huge impact without a cost increase. I found Com to be useful in role playing as well as its mechanical function. That it worked differently from other characteristics doesn't seem a compelling reason to drop it. No other Primary Characteristic aside from Body can be lowered by a common mechanic (normal and killing damage). It has unique function and lacks one of the functions of most of the others (rolls as I can't think of what a Body roll might be that doesn't seem to more suited to a Con roll but then I can think of skills where Com would be rolled). To turn it around, as far as I saw no compelling reasons given for hacking out something people used rather than say expanding on it (and related material) from anyone that proposed it, including Steve Long. Some potential for expansion has come up in almost every discussion of the "Com problem" even this one so it can't be difficult. Unfortunately, it's Steve Long ball and he can what he wants to with it and decided on the surgeon's solution. Mores the pity in this case as it seems like the best that' going to come of it for me is a lateral move (this Talent does everything Comeliness did) and change for changes sake which brings in a Talent I'd either have to retrofit into almost every single character in my games, work hacking something back in or another reason to just stick with what I currently have going. Edit: My main thought on why its a characteristic is that appearance is something every character has in some form or another. Other perceive them and there is some chance, how ever small, that appearance will effect their reaction. Even if it they consider the character "homely" that might make them sympathetic. The lower your Com score, the less likely that is (to the agree the skill rolls can reflect that, it's a granularity issue) with actively, negatively ugly beginning at 0. The negative Comeliness costs point idea was a bad way to handle that and needed to be revised, IMO. I'd say it should have started to negatively affect your Interaction rolls and effect role play at that point.
  22. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Well, depends on setting and the sfx of the ability. Though at least some people have trained themselves to be functionally ambidextrous to be able memorize reams of data perfectly or to speed read in reality so it's not off the charts in a cinemti fiction, IMO. I don't there's really a hard and fast place to put many things. Powers can be stuff you're trained or learned to do, incredibly impressive knacks, etc. Talent can be inborn, trained, blessings from external sources. While I wouldn't, an argument could be made for dropping Talents, renaming Powers to something evocative of the superhero genre and using the existing Talents as example builds in the section for low level cinematic shticks.
