  1. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Special effects, dramatic logic and setting specifics. The Talent is going to have to deal with the same issues most likely. Of your sfx were such they severly limited the char ("Wow, look at the ovipositers on her!") then you could get it limited. Obsessing over if it was your character's hair or build that was pleasing seems like worrying about minutia like if they're EB is red or green. Is it going to have a significant and consistent game or mechanical effect? Yes, then find pricing mod for it. No? Don't worry about. Heck, if your game is going to be mostly battle and tactics don't worry about Comeliness at all. I mean is this talent going to be broken down the level of features so you'll have to get Striking Appearance: Great Hair! +2 Striking Appearance: Lovely eyes +1 etc, etc.
  2. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Actually Neg Com did come up during the endless Com Wars. Negative Com was a bad mechanic and should have been handled differently. Which didn't necessitate throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Such as negative Com imposing penalties to Interaction skills, for example, Where the rules for Negative added in 4th or 5th? Frightening/Horrific appearance could be done with extra limited Pre since the only "intimidation" mechanics are Pre attack. It could possible add to the base for some forms of Interrogation and Torture. The Talent seems just as subjective and arbitrary as the char and losses some of the diversity, at least from the description we've received so far.
  3. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I think both was over compensating for the Lotto effect.
  4. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Speaking of Extra Limbs, is there any word on if it might see some expansion in 6th? That would be cool. .
  5. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Well, that's certainly good to hear. On another matter, I will note since the door's been opened in contrast to what was said earlier in the thread no one HAD to be buy Com for their character or ask for any rolls if they don't feel their character's appearance has a game effect
  6. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I've tried to keep my mouth shut. I really have The mechanics behind it are right under the description. They were as "real" as any other characteristic roll: A complimentary roll for Interaction skills. It's right there in the book. It's been there since 4th Edition, IIRC. There are no core skill that use Con, Ego, Body or Str either but you can develop them easily enough There could be very easily be used for PS skills. We have a few in our own games. Com rolls actually had more rules for them (the complimentary roll rules) than the others Char which were basically vague suggestions that were never mentioned again. Maybe not in your games. it was used quite a bit in the ones I played in and ran both as complimentary and as a separate thing I seen more Com rolls than I've Dex rolls and I've never seen a Con roll, a Body roll or a raw Int or Pre roll. How do you know? Have you seen it? Have you read the reason why some people prefer Comeliness to this Talent? Personally I would preferred more be developed for Com (like in Bob Greenwade's excellent article "Based On Com) and other characteristic than to throw what was for me a useful and fun part of the game under the bus in favor of doing just like every other game out there. It was only "half baked" as you wanted it to be and because some people chose to ignore it. The problem is the Talent doesn't seem to fulfill the function that Com had in manner the people that enjoyed it found fun. There were mechanics for it and more could be developed. Is it really so hard to understand why someone might prefer them to this new approached? Its the same thing as the killing attack changes or turning Figured chars it Secondary characteristics. Some people cared/care about it. I enjoyed Comeliness and I used it. It was one of the things that made Hero System different and interesting to me. I'm not insisting that everyone else love it. If, by some means, 6th impresses me enough to use I'll be houseruling it back in but for me dropping it seems like a pointless alteration that served no purpose except to replace something I enjoyed with something that as far I've seen seem generic instead of developing what I felt was a cool aspect of the game. So yeah, I'm not happy. Several people aren't but as far as I can see no one has said their never going to play Hero again because its gone or whatever. They've expressed disappointment about it then been told their being silly for it and had the same tired old memes thrown in their faces about it "not doing anything" and "never being used". There is a rule for what it does in the book, you can develop other uses for it like other chars and clearly, some people used it unless every who's said so is lying or hallucinating. Edit: For that matter, Vulcan has a point. How well will this Talent BE integrated into the game? For one it's apparently "Optional" and its probably built as Limited Skill levels (shot in the dark) and I've read that more detailed social rules aren't high on the list of things in mind for 6th anyway. So I don't imagine much space being devoted to Striking Appearance, probably about as much, maybe slightly more than was "taken up" by Com in the first place.
  7. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far It's been my experience Killing Attacks weren't dangerous in Super games for most characters. The change of them doing Body were very low except against exceptionally low defense characters. It's entirely possible I played against paranoid players but Resistant Defense was so cheap (and good to buy as it worked just fine against normal damage in the case of Armor and Force Field) Killing attacks rarely did more than 1, maybe 2 Body tops per combat and that was rare. I agree the Stun Lotto made KAs munchkin bait, particularly with the ability to buy up the Multiplier but was their one major use too. The main reason I don't care for the hit locations solution is that brings other baggage with it. The issue with normal attacks, bringing up things like sectional armor that players might now want to deal with and honestly, when I've used it the chart can create some really strange visuals if you take it literally.
  8. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Edit: Dear sweet Gods of Gaming. I'm about to get into it again Comeliness response: The threads are still there in the 6th ed forums. Either you like the characteristic or you don't, same for the Talent It's subjective neither is objectively "better". Those of you who hated, congrats. You won.
  9. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far And we don't know the hit location chart hasn't been changed to suit the rules. Unless that tidbit has been revealed. I'll tell you one thing though. It's getting a bit... old to keep being told that you don't like the changes or even some of them that you're just frightened of change.
  10. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Requires a skill roll is either all or nothing, a complimentary skill does not function like that. Also, RSR is often (not always) brought to a level where active points effect the outcome so the more aesthetically pleasing you are, the less often it has impact. What would the Skill be for that matter? You also lose some other aspects of the Comeliness character that have been belabored at length in various threads.
  11. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Along with EDM I'm hoping the new powers will be cleaner methods for things like Possession.
  12. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Because people didn't like some of the information released?
  13. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far QFT and repped
  14. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Well, here's the ones I know of D and D had The Book of Erotic Fantasy (which has been falsely maligned and too often lumped in with garbage like FATAL, IMO) and there's at least one more professional out there. GURPS: Sex was a fan supplement and Exalted was a mostly a joke with the proposal to do a real book if the gag sold enough (I'm not sure that offer was real). And and there's Sex and Sorcery as well and Naughty and Dice which, IIRC was just a general guide book for sex in rpg? But really when did I say it had to authorized? Hero System should just have one. It's a prestige/popularity thing like how you're not really "in" until Weird Al parodies one of your songs.

    TV to rpg

Re: TV to rpg Just out of curiosity did it use Hero System? I'm currently running a game loosely based on Sliders. Eureka and the upcoming Warehouse 13 might make good rpgs. Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles set up a pretty developed temporal war between the resistance and the machines that could make good game fodder. The X-files have inspired a few games.
  16. Re: Superhero Images Thanks guys! All the positive comments are well appreciated. I feel like I should explain why I'm posting them. A few years ago, Chris ran into some trouble when he posted some of work and a few jerks took it on themselves to harass him about it. It was just a couple out of allot of overall appreciation but they were really aggressive about it, even sending insulting emails so he's been pretty gun shy about posting work in public under his accounts. Understandably he doesn't want to be harassed again. He's been kind of enough to do allot of work for our various Champions and other rpgs I'd like to post more but some of it wouldn't pass muster for board standards.
  17. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Another one from Dylan. The group has encountered another group of survivors mostly composed of teenagers and children. One of the younger members committed on Dylan's baby bump apparently not buying the story there was a baby in there and that it was more likely she had to burp really bad. This resulted in Dylan experiencing a bit of a hormonal freak out and drawing some odd conclusions. Bill: OK...that was weird. Bill was used to being the one who frightened children. He turned and trotted after Dylan, catching her in the room they shared. He laid a gentle hand on her shoulder and said, "Something you want to talk about?" Dylan had her arms around her stomach protectively, but stayed turned away from Bill. "What if she's right? What if there's not a baby? What if...what if...well I've had these dreams that I'm...I'm just getting fat, or that I go to have the baby and it's dead..." Bill: "Honey, the baby's fine," Bill told her, laying a hand over her growing belly. "And you're fine. And we could all stand to get a little fatter than we are, but there's a beautiful baby inside you regardless." Dylan: "What...what if that kid's like...psychic or something. And she ~knows~ there isn't a baby?" Bill frowned. For once, the expression on his face was completely readable: that was a **** of a goofy thing to say. But when he spoke, his experience with pregnant women and their anxieties showed. His voice was soothing and calm as he said, "Honey, I really don't think the little girl is psychic. I think she doesn't know where babies come from." For the record, she didn't know and was not psychic. She thought you found babies in the bushes because when the older members of their impromptu tribe went looking for a private place to make out and she asked what they were doing her older sister sarcastically told her "lookin' to get a baby..."
  18. Re: Pain So in game terms could that be reflected a single target "CE" since it can force a Characteristic roll where one isn't usually required? Edit: Scooped by Hugh So much of a limitation would "one target only" be? Its similar to 1 hex accurate but requires the user to hit his target's DCV (or possible ECV).
  19. Re: What's Hero System good for? I didn't mean to imply that I thought it was impossible. It's just not what I consider the optimal system for it in that generally you need some houserules or similar modifications to get just the right feel. Hero is generally focused on the cinematic, the characters, even low point characters are very resilient and skilled and rules about many things outside of physical confrontation are somewhat glossed over or handled in a very cinematic fashion. A GM can come up with stuff on the fly or house rule but its some additional effort. Hero is extremely modular and the ability to dial the levels of "realism" up and down is a great aspect of that. It just that IMO, the low end options aren't as officially flesh out as they could be.
  20. Re: terminator where thepeople scrapes with damage I forget, can a Susceptibility effect be something other than Damage? If so you could give the Terminator builds a susceptibility to intense physical damage (perhaps over a certain DC or amount of Body rolled not inflicted in a turn) that drains their Comeliness with a slow recovery rate. Maybe Phys Lim that once is' completely gone, it's gone.
  21. Re: What's Hero System good for? It's good for allot, excellent for many things and adequate for just about anything so I'll list off what I think it's the best pick for. Currently I'd say Hero System doesn't do low action/cinema settings and genres well, or at least not as well as it could. It is very much a larger than life, action sort of game and its design principles reflect that most things are balanced with combat utility in mind, for example. That's not a bad thing. Action and conflict are the heart of cinematic story telling but it can make it difficult to run other more low key genres (I hesitate to say "realistic") with Hero System or games focused on different kinds of conflict like social or non combat skill challenges. Those aren't impossible by any means but be prepared to do a little house rule creation or "romancing" the rules during play. I'd love to see some "gritty" Hero rules variations at some point but I can understand they're not a priority. The system has a sweet spot. Hero System currently doesn't offer allot of support for social/political type campaigns. It can but it would take some extension of the current rules which are workable but minimal, IMO. Again, I'd love to see some expansion at some point.
  22. Re: Superhero Images Thanks, I'll pass that along to the artist. He's been really great about doing work for our games.
