  2. Re: Lucha Libre convention game! I'd love to have played in this, and your rules of Lucha make for a great primer!
  3. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Where a transexual dominatrix commands an army of pro wrestlers, there is an an adventure wating to happen.
  4. Re: Order of the Stick IIRC, Elan's prestige class actually gets his CHA bonus to hit and damage, so long as he employs a pun with each strike.
  5. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Ong Bak 2 is hilariously awful from a story or acting point of view, but has many, many worthwhile fight scenes and stunts. Of course, I liked The Protector as a b-list gamer's movie. ;-)
  6. Re: Those Meddling Kids I've had the Scoobies show up as NPCs, both in something close to their original forms and as burned out, PTSD suffering adults. Could be fun to run a convention game with them. Not sure how long a campaign would last, though. The real trick as GM would be to remember that the bad guys don't actually want to kill the kids, just to scare them. That means no actual street gangs, no real mobsters, no hungry actual monsters; just fairly meek grifters in masks. Of course, a very funny and incredibly dark game could be had by letting the Scoobies loose in a crack house, or having them wander into a Slasher movie. Just make sure you have player buy in first. If I did use serious threats, I'd let the Scoobies have serious skills and maybe superskills or talents to keep them alive. No fun in a real campaign if you just kill everyone in the first scene. And yes, I remember that Venture Bros episode.
  7. Re: Multiform for Free? Frustrated.... My personal prefered "fix" for Multiform was All Forms Pay for any form they could switch into. Ultraman pays for Hayata, and Hayata pays for Ultraman. The Shapechanging Wizard pays for his Shapechange Spell, and each target form pays to switch back to the Wizard. That said, I'm OK with the choice to leave things as they are in 6th. Multiform itself is tricky enough no matter how you price it that you'll generally have to Insert GM Here to prevent abuse, and at least the 6E method has the advantage of simplicity.
  8. Re: Lucha Libre convention game! Character sheet looks great, and I'd love to get an export format like this for convention games! I was thinking of doing a Lucha game at some point. Let us know how it goes!
  9. Re: Order of the Stick Yup, and you pointed me to it. Unfortunately, Rich wasn't there, and there was no new book this year. The new t-shirts weren't that good either; only one I liked ("Action Girl").
  10. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Masked Girl. It's a Kamen Rider parody / tribute, and looks like it was intended as the start of a series. Kamen Rider if he'd been a high school girl on a bicycle. It was cute, and worked well enough if you've watched Kamen Rider recently, but most of the jokes won't work if you're not a Kamen Rider fan, and despite the American marketing there's almost no fan service. Worth a rental if you've watched Kamen Rider in the last six months, otherwise skip it.
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings Yup, it was good. One of the few cases where the RiffTrax annoyed me as much as entertained. The movie was entertaining enough on its own that I didn't want the commentary. Your near-perfect memory for movies you enjoy is always impressive.
  12. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Gencon featured a fair number of real girls dressed like that. A small subset of them actually looked good in the outfits.
  13. Re: A Dark Golden Age game I agree that a Mental Transform: Allied Super to Axis Super is probably the easiest way to go if you choose to implement this. It keeps powered Allied Supers out of the war zone, while allowing unpowered heroes in, which in turn keeps the Superheroes from directly changing the results of battles. On the other hand, it opens the question of why Axis Supers didn't change the course of the war, or why the Axis didn't have Supers, which imo is just as much of a problem. The way I handled in my Golden Age game was by having the higher powered Axis Supers sent on missions deep into Allied teritory (all you need is a few good teleporters or fliers for this). The Allied Supers can then spend a good chunk of their time guarding Washington, London, Canberra, etc, not to mention body guarding allied leaders. There are also missions into dimensional riffs, hidden lands, flying cities, the moon, etc. Also, I allowed Supers to change the course of battles here and there. There's more of a sense of danger if the players realize that in this alternate history, the Axis can win, unless the Player Characters can stop them; if every battle follows the script of the real war, the PCs might as well not be there at all.
  14. Re: Superheores with Disabilites, a thought experiememnt
  15. Re: Superheores with Disabilites, a thought experiememnt I once posted a write up for a Quadriplegic Kung Fu Master. It was a joke character, but he was playable, and only a slight exageration of the Cripled Master type in Chinese Wuxia. His real power was the ability to inspire his student (who did all the work) and still get the credit. Zatoichi is one of the longest running franchises in Japanese movies, and a recent version had the role played by an actress (though it was implied that the character was Zatoichi's adopted daughter, rather than just a female version of the original character). Ichi is the Blind Swordsman, and while he is incredibly skilled (as is his daughter), his blindness does often cause problems. The One Armed Swordsman is another variation on the Crippled Master type, though in that case the loss of an arm rarely seems to cause that many problems.
  16. Re: Kamen Rider / Masked Rider the First The problem was that in Masked Rider the First (the source I used), we saw him stop an oncoming truck with one hand without budging, leaving a dent in the shape of his hand in the grill. Maybe he was pushing, but by the book he needed a 50 STR to pull that off. I agree that it's the most obvious display of his Super Strength in the picture, and that his strength in the picture seems higher than in the TV show. Flying Kick should be Rider Punch / Rider Kick. Changing now. Thanks for the feedback.
  17. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I keep watching trailers for the new 2009 Darna. I'll try to catch a few subtitled episodes if I can. Daytime Superhero Soap.
  18. Re: Musings on Random Musings Sure, as I said, you can always just keep upping the defenses. The problem I have is that my Superheroes are throwing 60-90 active point attacks, but my Godzilla tribute has to be able to safely wade through a dozen 180 active point attacks per phase (if we go with official CU write ups of military hardware). Go for a Cloverfield style monster and the active points of attacks he can soak up become even higher. There are ways to deal with it, the easiest being setting specific system tweaks (If the max body can't get through, no stun can get through; that sort of thing) or anti-real weapon defenses. You can also just say "Supers can't fight giant monsters", but that doesn't match the source material. I usually hedge by down powering either the hardware or the monsters, or both. It works, but it's not a solution I'm really happy with.
  19. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Just watched the trailer for the 2009 Darna on Youtube. If this thing were in English, half the Superhero fans I know would be hooked. An over the top soap opera where the lead is a Superheroine and the ever changing roster of friends and enemies just happens to include a long list of Supervillains. Smallville did much the same thing, of course, and I wasn't much of a fan, but that was probably because I was too much of a Superman fanboy. Here, where I only really know the characters from the show, I'm mostly pretty well entertained.
  20. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The Giant Monster problem still vexes me. A friend suggested making Giant Monsters automatons, to give them the Takes No Stun power; that at least would keep them safe from 6d6 double AP tank barages. Another option I've considered is something like +300 PD / +300 ED Armor, Double Hardened, Only vs Real Weapons (-1). On top of a regular PD and ED in the 60 range, that should take care of things without needing a house rule, even if some idiot scores a critical head shot by surprise. Expensive and clunky as hell, though. Maybe we just need to accept that only Heroes throwing 80d6 attacks or better should have a chance of standing up against Godzilla.
  21. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Watched Season One of Sanctuary on Netflix streaming video. This was a surprisingly fun series, at least from a gamers POV. Yet another "Secret Supernaturals Amoung Us", but pretty well done, and with a couple of organizations both Criminal and Heroic that would fit very well into a Champions game.
  22. Re: Noddite Orb Superpower Source Each additional Orb is an additional new form, costing only 5 active points, as per the Multiform rules. Those 5 points are then divided by whatever limits you put on them, probably Focus and Independent. So the character ends up paying a fair chunk of points for his or her first Orb, in exchange for knowing that you won't leave him or her depowered for long unless it's a major plot point. If he manages to pick up additional orbs, he doesn't have to sink many points into them (unless they allow an even more powerful form than his original Orb); however, he also doesn't have that guarantee that he'll be able to hang on to the new Orb. If someone could use multiple Orbs at once, that would constitute a new Most Expensive Form (again as per the MF rules), and the difference would have to be paid for.
  23. Re: Noddite Orb Superpower Source I'd treat it like Multiform. The player starts as a Skilled Normal with a Mutiform into Himself + a 200 point Orb. Make that first Multiform a Unique Focus. Each additional Orb he gets hold of is a new Multiform, costing him either 5 points / Focus Limit (he can save up points, or spend XP), and add in the Independent limit if the new Orb can be taken away. Since the first Multiform isn't purchased as Independent, he's always going to have some access to at least one Orb of that point level as the campaign goes on. Love the setting idea. I've used some similar themes.
