  2. Re: The Last Word It all boils down to on wich side of the fence you stand. Or, as in some cases, if you straddle said fence.
  3. Re: The cranky thread . . . Persecute and kill the heretic?
  4. Re: The Last Word Boy Howdy, how that would suck!
  5. Re: The Last Word Employer goes Umpire: "Yerrout!"
  6. Re: The Last Word Naw. The employer can hire whoever he wants -- it's when he wants to fire someone that it gets complicated. "Last hired, first fired," is the code, and if an employer wants to bypass the queue, so to speak, without fair cause (as defined by agreement with the union), he'll have to pay a pretty substantial fine. This happened to my dad, once. He just couldn't get along with an employee, and wanted him out. Since "not getting along" is not considered a fair cause of firing, well . . .
  7. Re: The Last Word Well, they're like all special interest groups out there, really -- looking out just for them and theirs, and to Hell with the rest . . .
  8. Re: The Last Word There is little regularization in law of labor pay. Pay is set in negotiations between employer's organizations and labor unions. My union, Handelsanställdas förbund (Union of Retail Employees, maybe?), is considered one of the weaker unions.
  9. Re: The Last Word Actually, I wouldn't mind working Sundays. Weekend pay is really good -- after saturday noon, there's a 100% Uncomfortable Work Hours bonus. Say that a new girl -- or guy, for that matter, but most are girls -- workin the registers start at the aquivalent to US$12/hour, working only weekends between eight and sixteen (seven hours of effectively paid time -- eight scheduled hours means one hour break), would earn something like US$276/week, or US$1,200 a month. Subtract a third of that as tax, and you got US$800/month for eight days of work!
  10. Re: The Last Word . . . You guys get all the Cons . . . Must be over a year since I last worked a Sunday. The one day of rest I really can count on. Mostly.
  11. Re: The Last Word . . . At work? On a Sunday? If you were at home, I'd hazard a guess about a little itty bitty kitty chewing on your ethertnet cable.
  12. Re: The Last Word Whee-oo, I look just like Buddy Holly Whoah-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore . . . And nope. No lag that I have felt.

  18. Re: has anyone done Trinity and the Bambino? . . . Italian comedic westerns. They were hilarious to me when I was seven. Haven't seen them since, though . . .
  19. Re: Starship combat games . . . This "Can't Rep TKD Yet" is getting old.

  21. Re: Stone/Bronze Age help . . . GURPS Low-Tech is pretty good, though it obviously doesn't cover d20 . . . Can easily be used for Hero, though.
