  1. Like politics in the Sixties, this upheaval may be necessary correction in the face of deep flaws in American society. Like that earlier period what's coming almost certainly will be painful, but the result could be a net move forward.
  2. You just know she only won by hitting on Jeff Probst.
  3. I really expected a joke setup. That was actually rather serious.
  4. These Men Opened Up About What It's Like Living With 'Long COVID'
  5. Last night I dreamed I accidentally wandered into a coronavirus isolation ward at a hospital, and wasn't allowed to leave. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had COVID-themed dreams.
  6. Indeed. Nothing Donald Trump has been pulling has been novel or creative, or surprising to anyone with a passing knowledge of history. This is Dictator 101. We've seen it a hundred times over the past century. The only slightly surprising thing is that it's worked so well in what was long believed to be a stable democracy. Donald Trump, of course, is too ignorant to know anything about history. Some of what he's doing may be the product of his exploitative instincts, but many commentators are asserting his close confidant, Stephen Miller, is steeped in fascist precedents.
  7. Looks like mine should go through, then. Thanks , GD.
  8. Those poor EMTs. They've suddenly been thrust into roles like combat medics. I can't imagine the strain they're under. 😢
  9. Seven downvotes given to me. I suspect at least a few of them may be left over from a poster a while back who developed an extreme antipathy toward me, apparently due to two or three of my expressed views. But that person was subsequently banned, and I don't know if their votes either down or up remain in that circumstance. Can't say I care much either way, though. I've also never given a downvote. I don't consider them useful to resolve a conflict, as they usually just promote more resentment. If I think a poster has crossed or is about to cross a line, I either try to diplomatically draw attention to it in a post of my own, or if something firmer seems called for, send them a Private Message. That last has been pretty rare. We have an overall respectful and responsible group here.
  10. [Swirl of smoke and flame and stench of brimstone] WHO DARES?! 👿 💀 "Ahem!" I haven't been able to locate any specific information about Ravenswood students other than in the books AlgaeNymph mentioned in her OP. I'm not sure if those classes were left deliberately blank as archer suggests -- references to Ravenswood students from years earlier than the Class of '06 are scattershot -- but the likelihood anything "official" will be done with them in the foreseeable future is negligible. I'm confident they're open for you to fill as you wish, A.N.
  11. I found a video posted by a YouTube political commentator, David Pakman (definitely liberal bias, but generally reasonable and factual) which excerpts the passages from Trump's call that seem to be raising the most hackles. I'll start with the first one, then I recommend listening to the next two passages from the call. Pakman will come on in between for a few moments to comment.
  12. Getting Canadian votes would be delusional even for Trump. Remember, we're Socialists.
  13. Yeah, but then you can carry your fridge with all your beer back with you.
  14. In that case I'm torn between Skrull, or Gorn. Would I rather keep a low profile, or wreck stuff?
  15. We in other countries generally respected the office of POTUS, if not always its occupant. I'm afraid Trump has changed that. For someone like Trump to have held it for four years, and then almost get reelected, and now making it an even greater farce... I'm sorry, but we just can't esteem the office in the same way.
  16. I believe Trump knew he was deliberately lying, at first. But with his repeated lies constantly reinforced over years by his cultists and sycophants and extremist pundits, he became convinced it was all real. The con man conned himself.
  17. YouTube movie reviewer Jeremy Jahns. Self-created image posted to his channel.
  18. If any Republicans care a whit about their legacy, they should remember that these details, and how they responded to them, are going into the historical record.
  19. Sometimes I wonder if YouTube would even exist if there were no cats.
  20. I am sick of people rejoicing in their hateful ignorance. I'm guessing Tim Pool hasn't spoken to a single doctor or nurse in hospitals right now. And he calls the people reporting this tweet "losers." Look in the mirror. I automatically question whether any idea raised by Matt Gaetz deserves the expenditure of brain cells to consider.
