  1. I absolutely grasp the desire for vengeance. And I can't dispute whatever measure of punishment the State will choose to mete out to the perpetrators of these acts, after they get their day in court. But the American justice system isn't set up to mete out vengeance. Yes, the names of these alleged rioters (not necessarily their locations) would be a matter of public record; but putting all those details for all of them in one easily accessed spot is a calculation for effect, to intimidate them with the knowledge that they'll be found and punished. It's not impossible that charges against someone in this group could be a mistake, but even if exonerated that public association will follow them forever. That list will always resurface, because what's on the Internet never disappears. It's a slippery slope when the State is given license, in the heat of passion, to choose who to punish through stigmatization before due process. Because if they can do that with impunity to someone, they can do it to anyone.
  2. I find this development unsettling. I understand the deterrent intent behind the decision, but these people are still only charged, not convicted. It doesn't matter how good the evidence is, "innocent until proven guilty" and "due process" are still supposed to be cornerstones of the American justice system. Making these people's names and locations public, in this political climate, means they and their loved ones face ostracism, harassment, or worse. It's punishing them before they've been convicted. This smacks a little too much of an "enemies list" for my liking.
  3. Is there a reason for the Hulk to be so scrawny that I'm not getting?
  4. Oh, an introductory adventure or two that can be played right away, sure, I can see the benefit of that. It's been brought up here repeatedly. But the only RPG settings I've seen that lay out a full campaign were built around that campaign, and that's pretty exceptional
  5. Very much agreed. But Rise is also excellent, and shows how the world got to the state it's in by Dawn. But the parallels with what's happening in the real world now might be... unsettling, for some.
  6. Sorry, Dan. It wasn't my intention to discuss those matters here at all. The whole point of the thread was to provide an alternative.
  7. And we now have a precedent for ending the Sutherland Presidency.
  8. This might be a bad time to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
  9. Huh. I never felt that a "setting" had to lay out a full campaign for someone to follow, if it had everything I as GM need to build a campaign.
  10. Honestly, given what Bourne has done and what he's capable of, I wouldn't consider that a joke.
  11. Well, we do have a campaign setting: Hudson City: The Urban Abyss . Of course it may not be the kind of setting you have in mind. It's definitely on the "grim dark" side rather than "suave and sophisticated." OTOH even James Bond is a lot grittier than he used to be. Jason Bourne kind of infected him.
  12. Ted Cruz suffers Capitol riot backlash, with a top aide resigning and calls for him to be added to the FBI no-fly list The Capitol Hill mob wanted to intimidate Congress. It’s working.
  13. The name choice might have been partially to keep the copyright for it from being taken by another company. After all, Hero Games was able to use "Champions" because Marvel Comics had let the name lapse after their comic series ended. And we all know DC's "Captain Marvel" snafu.
  14. That is so; but Mexico banned further immigration from the United States in 1830, yet American colonists continued to arrive anyway. And the forces at the Alamo included volunteers from the States who had come in support of the revolution. Also, another big point of contention was that Mexico had banned slavery, and thousands of the colonists were slave-owners.
  15. Couple of ironies here. One is that Trump is going to Alamo, Texas, which is not where the Alamo is located. The other irony is that the Texicans fighting at the Alamo were technically illegal immigrants.
  16. Didn't intend to disturb you, sorry. Perhaps it's the outsider's perspective, never having had a horse directly in America's race. And that's from a country which declined to join Bush's coalition against Iraq, and was excoriated for it. I in no way support or condone Bush's policies in Iraq, but I stand by my assessment of the man himself. Thanks to Americans for coming BTW. We received a large wave of bright, motivated young people. They really made a positive contribution to my country.
  17. Even worse if it has to resort to a boat.
  18. How about the Washington National Cathedral? Let's see if the avowed Religious Right is willing to be seen damaging the most symbolic church in America.
  19. I did notice the resemblance between Gollum and Giuliani.
  20. We do need to keep the discourse civil and rational to avoid drawing the Wrath of Dan. To me it just keeps going back and forth until you can't tell up from down. I think the whole thing is sideways.
  21. Let's just be clear: said conviction was by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission/Tribunal, established in 2007 in Malaysia by its former prime minister to unilaterally investigate alleged war crimes by any nation or party. This commission has no connection to the International Criminal Court and isn't recognized by the United Nations, and its verdicts have no standing under international law, being purely symbolic. I do believe that W truly thinks he acted for the greater good, and genuinely wanted to make life better for people in America and elsewhere in the world. I don't consider him an evil man, but he is an unexceptional man, having taken on a responsibility that was beyond his capacity.
  22. BTW you and your players may find these helpful.
  23. Right there with you, Tjack. But for this crossover, I'd rather she wear Leia's metal bikini. EDIT: And this, Phantomxistance, is what we call thread drift. Best get used to it, it happens a lot here.
