  1. Re: The Forumverse name game AlHazred: In the year 3005... Deep in the hollowed out core of Ozymandias-6, a planetiod named by a astrogator from the Terran Empire who never stepped foot off of his own home planet, lies the twisted corpse of AlHazred, the Mad Arcano-Borg of Beyond-Space. AlHazred is suspended dead center in a raging storm of wires and hoses, part of a vast infernal machine whose mechanism and function would defy all logic and sanity if it were to be viewed directly by finite beings. The mind of AlHazred, if it ever truly existed at all, is now completely lost to the dancing destruction of a life spent in the pursuit of the Forbidden Yoga of Chthono-Tronic Cyber-Nihilism. Once, whole interstellar civilizations bowed in worship to AlHazred, and slayed themselves willingly on mile-high black altars at the merest impulse of a stray neuron in his brain, feeding his dark hunger for souls. No one knows where he came from... no one knows where he is now... all traces of his once omnipotent control over a 1000 world empire have been swept away in the stellar dusts of time. Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled hp and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read, Which yet survive stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; .And on the pedestal these words appear: 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my works. Ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
  2. Re: Damage Reduction Okay... this is the way I see it: All of reality (or existence) is basically the ultimate result of random potentiality, right? Depending on the cosmology of your campaign, the concept of alternate realities could be less "this is another place to explore", and more "this is the same place, only differing in resultant potentiality". That being the case, you could ask yourself, "Self... if I give my character XDM to alternate realities... what exactly does that mean?" The answer would be, "Well, Self... what it means is your character has the ability to alter the ultimate resultant potentiality of the entire Universe around him. Huh... wierd. Maybe I aught to raise the active point cost of that Power." In the end... its all about how you conceptualize the cosmology of your campaign. Discussions about time travel and paradox could fall under the same route as this. If someone would please nail down what the cost of the "Megascale: Universal" Advantage, things would be a lot simpler. As a side note: How do you Target the UNIVERSE, anyhow? Is it like a battleship? How much Power DEF would you give the UNIVERSE? Do you think it is an XD Target, or Desolid?
  3. Re: how to attack end It would be interesting to build a Character that used other people's END to power its Powers. Hm... very interesting, indeed... Thanks for the inspiration. Good luck.
  4. Re: Walking On The Sun Alright... it's certainly a cool concept. So' date=' okay... here you are with a 125 STR Superman... how much [b']"Intervening Person Defense Barrier"[/b] (the new official name of this power) do you give yourself? And once you've got that... how much do you spend on regular defenses? It would be silly to end up with a Superman, that can't punch himself out with a Called Shot to the Head Haymaker... What about for your average 60 STR brick?
  5. Re: SPD, DEX, and Movement Having once been a town-cruising, skirt-chasing, port-hopping sailor... I can only imagine that being in a "Professional" military organization, must be a total drag. Better them than me.
  6. Re: RANT: Astral Projection Yeah, I was pretty much sold on the idea of Duplication for Astral Projection and Cyber-Jacking, as soon as I heard about it in the books. Clairevoyance is another good one, for people who don't plan to do much with their astra form, other than snoop around. I am a huge Doctor Strange fan, btw.
  7. Re: SPD, DEX, and Movement Canada declaired war on the Axis, during WWII, 24 hours before we did, after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
  8. Re: SPD, DEX, and Movement Yeah, it wouldn't bother me if this was addressed in 6th ed. SPD is the most dangerous and annoying aspect of the entire system. Average people have a SPD of 2... exceptional people have a SPD of 3... Herioc Characters generally have a SPD of 4... Superheroic Characters generally have a SPD of 5... If you are a Dark Champion, ex-high-wire circus trapeze artist, who has black belts in 6 martial arts, and fights crime on the roof-tops of Hudson City... you probably have a SPD of 4. If you are a Superhero, and you ride around in a Wheelchair shooting EB's with your eyes... you probably have a SPD of 5... (not to mention, a DEX and CON of 20). If there is any difference in SPD between Characters and/or NPC's, there is a huge gap in combat ability that is impossible to effectively reconcile.
  9. Re: Animal Enmity Disad (Kult Conversion) I'd build this as a Distenctive Feature: Animal Enmity Aura: Distinctive Feature, Not Concealable, Feature Causes Extreme Reaction (Hatred, resulting in "fight or flight" response), Feature Detectable Only By A Small Group (Creatures with Animal Class Minds): 15 Character Points.
  10. Re: RANT: Astral Projection I think the Power, in your case, would still need to be written up, even if the Characters weren't required to pay for the Power with Character Points. Sounds like a neat game. If the Power "Astral Projection" was a basic free starting ability for all Characters, you could work out some kind of Disad for Characters with the handicap, "Unable to Astrally Project."
  11. Re: Building "Eye of Thoth" (Kult Conversion) So this power allows the caster to know the location of the subject, during the entire span of the subject's existence; past, present, and future; in all dimensions.
  12. Re: Walking On The Sun Veeeeery comic-bookie!
  13. Re: Walking On The Sun Okay, so let me get this totally straight: <> Correct? There are no other advantages... you want this to be SFX specific... and that's pretty much it.
  14. Re: Walking On The Sun You have suddenly sparked within me, a strong desire to build a character who is Desolid to Mental Attacks... This is my least favorite part of the game, but yeah... totally.
  15. Re: Walking On The Sun I can't find any precedence for using Indirect in this way, but it certainly makes a lot of sense, and is very intuitive. This is part of the dividing line between intervening barriers (like Force Wall) and personal defenses (like Armor and Force Field). So, my question is this: Is a Force Wall that is turned into a personal defense, still considered an intervening barrier, in the sense that any attack that is unable to bypass the Defense of the Impervious Power with BODY damage, can be ignored by the character? Hawksmoor would like to have the character be affected by Knockback like usual. I see the simplicity of this, but I'm not sure I want to stop there. What do you think about this? Is the STUN damage that currently bypasses personal defenses the only thing we care about? This seems somewhat lame to me. It's fine, but there's wasted potential happening.

  17. Re: Announcing — DIME HERO ADVENTURES!
  18. Re: The Forumverse name game Go nuts. The only way to keep this game going, is to allow people to go more than once. Whether or not people want to keep coming up for alternate versions of Hooligan X, is another thing...
  19. Re: NCM-type for strength This is true, but with Megascale, of course, you can't scale down the AoE into smaller sizes. I'll admit it's a lame limitation in comparison to the price advantage, but it's something. Megascale has it's uses, but I've never being a huge fan of it. It seems like it's always relegated to alternate Multipower Pool slots, for other, more mainstream power builds, on Characters that need to have a half dozen specialized versions of thier standard powers.
  20. Re: Announcing — DIME HERO ADVENTURES! "Aetherial Earth" sounds pretty cool. Is space actually Aether, in this alternate Universe?
  21. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! Galactus (every super-team needs a brick) Impossible Man (I just like this guy. Anyone who invites Galactus to devour his planet to releave the boredom, and then lets him do it, is cool in my book. He's the ultimate bendy-toy/comic relief character, and totally pwnz Morph...) Wolverine (I'd probably have Galactus beat him up, so I can highlight how powerful Galactus is. It might be kind of hard for me to justify a fight between Galactus and Wolverine, so I'll fudge things a little, by making Wolverine a total jerk who insults Galactus' former Universe, and pisses him off enough to really cut loose on Logan.) Luke Cage (Just as a secondary brick, for when Galactus looses agro...) Captain X-Treme (Because it's not the Avengers without good ol' Cap'! I'd totally retcon him, by saying that the Captain America we'll all know is actually a clone of the real Captain America, now called Captain X-Treme, who was turned into a vampire, while he was in Eastern Europe during WWII. My version of Cap' would be totally dark and x-treme to the max. He's going to beat-up Wolverine, too...) Rogue (I had a hard time figuring out who the best T&A Marvel chick was to put in the team. In the end, I had to take Rogue. She'd got that super sexed up, but never saticefied thing going on, which rawks my world. Plus, being bullet proof, I can blow-off most of here outfit in every issue, like Image did for that chick in GEN-13. Man, that GEN-13 chick was smoken hot! What was her name? I guess it doesn't matter... awesome character concept, though. Total genius. An impossible romance between Rogue and Galactus would probably keep the readers coming back for more...)
  22. Re: I have an idea rattling around in my noggin. The smart/green all-in-one combo Hulk/Banner, was where it was at for me. I was pretty disappointed when Hulk/Banner split back into two competing personalities. <> ...and killing off Betsy Ross was a horrible idea.
