  1. Re: Martial Manuvers with a Pick The way you described it, is exactly the way I would rule on that. +2 DC's for Martial Manuevers, equates to +1 DC for Killing Attacks with those Manuevers. 1d6+1 should be the minimum damage you do, using a Martial Manuever, with a 1d6 damage pick. If you use a Manuever that adds more damage, say another +2 DC's, then you would get yet another +1 DC for Killing attacks, and would do 1 1/2d6 Killing damage with the pick.
  2. Re: Purely Positive Thread I'm stoked that Steve Long is going to "test the water" for a Carter/Gordon/Rogers setting book, for Pulp HERO.
  3. Re: Emotionally Affected Powers Everything so far has been good. All I can add is the Limitation "Only When Pushing" (-1). The "Extended Push" power write-up, in Dark Champions (page 110) uses this, and a few other things, for the ability to Push extra hard for STR.
  4. Re: Questions and Suggestions for my next campaign. "Man-kind is not yet morally advanced enough, to be trusted with the technology of the air-ship. If it were to fall into the wrong hands, (like the Nazi's) and mass produced, it would change the face of warfare, and spell certain doom for humanity as a species." (hm..this is maybe a little too Victorian Age, and Nemo-esque... I'll keep thinking. 1936 might be a little late for that kind of stuff.) What if the crew of the air-ship was searching the world for a pristine land, unfettered by modern worldly tidings of war, where they could start, or be a part of, a new utopian society? But everywhere they go, something isn't right... dangers abound... or the Nazis got there first? This could be a kind of "Return to the Garden of Eden", or "Ultimate Realization of Man-Kind's Potential" kind of thing. Have you heard of "Foo Fighters"? They were these balls of light that wizzed around bombers, during WWII... maybe you could work that in, somehow, by coming up with an explanation for them, and making them part of "The Big Mystery" of your campaign. "Sky Captain" was pretty far out compared to Indiana Jones, which was more or less concurrent with our real world continuity, and it sounds like you are heading more into a fantastic depiction of reality with your campaign... which is cool. How far are you willing to go? Will you have titanic robots battling King Kong in the middle of New York City? Will most of your adventures take place beyond the range of civilization's domain of influence? I'm very curious... My final thought, is that at the end of the campaign, you should engineer one of two final outcomes... 1) Have the air-ship crash, taking the captain and all his wonerous knowledge with it... or 2) Reveal the existence of a secret faster than light drive/ancient super-advenced startgate, and have the captian and the air-ship depart for far distant alien vistas without the heroes. ~ Mister E
  5. Re: What Other Pulp Hero Books Would You Like To See? Or maybe we should tune in next week, for another thrilling instalment... A Carter/Gordon/Rogers setting is what I want. I find the idea of you "testing the waters" titillating and pleasurable; but for me... wholly unnecessary. As a matter of fact, it would make me giddy with joy if you were to dedicate the next year of your life to writing a "Barsoom-esque Moons of Mongo in the 25th century" sword and planet/adventure fantasy/space-cowboy setting book; that ended up being bigger than the 5er... needed wheels.. and required me to get a loan from the bank to pay for. The high I would receive in owning such a personally significant and life-fulfilling book, would last until I die... and when I did die, I would request that the book be buried with me, and your name be put on the tombstone. (Well, to be honest... I'd rather have a viking funeral, or have my ashes turned into a diamond, and shot into space... so maybe I'll just bury the book under the tombstone... but you get my drift...) ~ Mister E
  6. Re: Purely Positive Thread After watching Sin-City, and Batman Begins, I ran out and picked up Steve Long's "Dark Champions", and "Hudsen City"... and they rawk! With the help of these two books, the DC campaign I'm getting started, is whipping into shape nicely... this makes me very happy. The end. ~ Mister E P.S. And I have a cute little kitty in my lap, too. The real end. ~ still Mister E P.P.S. And the kitty is nice and warm and fuzzy... and I think she likes me, because I just gave her tuna-water from the can of tuna I opened a little while ago. Really the real end, this time. ~ Mister E, again.
  7. Re: Setting Developers I've been wanting to work up an Illuminati-esque campaign world, for a while now.
  8. Re: Two ways but which do you prefer. The fact that there isn't a standard for figuring out when extra SPD actions go, makes me like the first example better. It's less clunky... more stream-line. Of course, the character will be able to perform any action he wants on his turn, not just mental actions... this, to me, could be a kind of "heads-up" advantage for a guy who can think faster on his feet.

  11. Re: What kinds of abilities should my charater have? What about giving him a future high-tech blaster pistol, that he built.
  12. Re: First Time Mastering HERO (and new player) A bold tactic!
  13. Re: Planetary: Size Templet Is he a Gas Giant, perhaps?
  14. Re: Gravity Trap Well... first of all, "Lifting STR" is just about the only thing that everyone agrees is exponential... but anyhow... One of your problems, is that you are trying to encumber a guy that can lift 1.6 metric tons. This is an extremely powerful character, who is 16x as strong as a 10 STR character. I know you've read Star HERO, but I would like to point out that 5 STR is 1 G, +5 STR gives you +1 G... and Heavy Worlders have +5 STR above what's needed for the gravity they normally live in. Thus, a 30 STR character should be quite comfortable, (though of average strength for that environment), in 5 G's. Also, though there are numerous ways to end up with a 30 STR character in a SH game, most of these characters are going to weigh more than 100kg. The fact that you are starting with such a relatively light body weight, is one of the major reasons you're having such a hard time making it seem heavy to this guy. 90% encumbrance will give -5 to DCV/Dex Rolls, -8" to Movement, and cost the character 4 END per Turn. If you changed the character's body weight to 150kg and kept the 10kg equipment, 10 G's would put him at 90.6% encumbrance... if you changed it to 200kg, 8 G's would put him at 92.5%. Naked, you would have to re-calculate. For a character with a 30 STR, body weight of 100kg, and carrying 10kg... I was able to put him at 5kg over 100% encumbrance with 15.5 G's, and 90% encumbrance, with 14 G's.
  15. Re: Move Through without Knockback or Knockdown Why not try a STR vs. STR roll? There are two ways to do this: 1) Count the BODY of the STR Damage (like resisting grabs for Martial Arts)... or 2)resisted STR Roll checks. Number one is way less random, but not as risky. Number two is way more random, but gives weaker people a chance.
  16. Re: Hero is broken I think everyone is busy trying to come up with ideas for my Planetary Size Template... Either that, or they're trying to figure out what my motives for building it in the first place, were. Or... they are grocking their brains out, dazzled with the implications laid bare by my building a man the size of the planet Earth...
  17. Re: Planetary: Size Templet Perhaps I should write up a "Solar", or "Stellar" size template.
  18. Re: Planetary: Size Templet Oh, I get it... you still have Death Stars on the brain. What do you think about the idea of a "beyond-titanic-proportioned" naked man floating around in space? How would you build his gravity? Would you make all of his defenses Resisant? Would he even be able to see creatures as small as normal humans? Would his body, up close, be a roiling avalanche of lifeforms? Would his skin be pitted with healing craters as big as football fields, but beyond his notice? Would his internal organs be ultra-dense organic magma flows? If you broke through the crust of his skin, would white hot blood geyser out of him like a Mercurial volcano? Could you blow up the moon by lighting one of his farts? Would he pine away eternaly of loneliness, starved for female companionship? ~ Mister E
  19. Re: Creating Our Own World I've got a pretty good idea for a world setting... Is anyone here familiar with "The Mystic World" sourcebook? There was one extra-dimensional setting in there, (on pages 35-40) that really captured my imagination; and I think it has huge amounts of potential. Babylon: The City Of Man! It's got everything we're looking for. Every genre can be represented... Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Modern, Historic, Champions... everything! Plus it's got it's own unique flavor. Here's a few blurbs: "The lords of Elysium and the Netherworld view Babylon's rise with hope and fear, for it tips the ancient balance of power..." "Babylon echoes all the great cities of the past and present, real, and imagined - perhaps even cities to come..." "It's skyscrapers tower impossibly high. It's freeways sprawl wider than football fields; it's back alleys form a cramped and tangled maze..." "Babylon is, above all, the realm of secular ambition. Power, money, and skill rule affairs..." Check it out.
  20. Re: Hero is broken I would like to direct your attention to a new Thread I started... "Planetary: Size Template" (... please ignore the fact that the title of the thread is spelled wrong. Thankyou. ) The build so far, is very solidly based in the game system, and I'm very pleased with it... but it's severely lacking in any real "Planet-Scale" special touches... and I would really like any kind of feed-back, suggestions, or criticisms you can throw my way. I think the idea is super cool on it's own merits; and I think it might help us conceptualize visually, and system-wise, what attacking a target that big is all about. ~ Mister E
  21. Re: Planetary: Size Templet Um... sure.
  22. Re: how to make this power I totally agree. Any Powers or Limitations that are Mental or Spiritual in nature, should transfer with the Transforms.
  23. Re: how to make this power Sure. That's probably a good idea. I was just giving an example of a basic build. Tinker all you like, to get the exact effect you want. Yes, that is an aspect of the build where I was forced to use a little creativity. I don't think it's that big of a deal, but it's an instance power, so Continuous wouldn't be appropriate. I'm not sure NND would make a difference. As far as the idea about "Transforming heals if the two are touching...", that's cool... but I would just leave that to the GM's artisticness with the SFX of the Power. I don't think it actually needs to be build it. But why not?
