I really wish a viable presidential candidate would tackle this issue as part of their primary campaign promises...but i'll not hold my breath. Seriously taking on police brutality (and, by extension, the horribly maladjusted justice system we have) would also mean dealing with (ceasing, in other words) the failed "War on Drugs" not to mention the prison-industrial complex that has an under-the-table stranglehold on many politicians.

Other nations, particularly the UK, show that you can have a law enforcement institution that doesn't treat it's citizens like an occupied people. It is impossible to believe we can't work toward and achieve something even halfway as amicable in terms of civilian-cop relationships.

We have about a hundred posts a month discussing American cops brutalizing and killing civilians, with no end in sight. What the hell, man? In only two incidents have any cops been arrested.  Seriously, what the hell?

I wonder what happened to the employees of Syndrome on his volcanic island after his untimely demise. Hundreds of people, judging by the size and scope of the operation. Would they just go home? Home where? Would they take over? There's a lot of valuable intellectual property on the island and no official corporate filings. They could be a union run island in no time.

Fair enough. I certainly know what it feels like to find one's idealism replaced by cynicism.

You know about half of the the infidelitous louts were women, right?  IIRC, women have slightly more dalliances than men, but they tend to be of shorter duration.

What about the women?  Are they somehow more justified in their behavior?

Went to see Mad Max : Fury Road last night - highly satisfying. I was cackling and applauding and bouncing in my seat so much Purrdence had to hold me down at times. Although she was getting pretty bouncy herself. I noticed her making small impatient noises at the traffic lights on the way home.

Me: You want to scream through the intersection waving the steering wheel over your head, don't you?
    Purrdence: *blushes and nods*

I've "binged" Bosch, the Amazon-funded police procedural where someone made the insane casting decision of letting Titus Welliver play a good guy (the horrendously named Hieronymous "Harry" Bosch, LAPD detective).

Didn't even hear of the novels, but liked the series, especially how they took their time and solved a crime in 10 40-minute episodes, something that a CSI metastasis might've handled in one.
More time for creating a modern, yet noir-ish point of view.

Once Upon a Time in the West- I don't ever recall seeing this movie before tonight and I have to say what a wonderful surprise it was to watch. The scene where Henry Fonda's character is introduced was chilling. Keep in mind when I say that, that I am very hard to impress. Turned out far more suspenseful than almost every modern movie I have watched. I hereby proclaim it my second favorite Western, after Unforgiven.

At least we've gotten away from the rood. From wikipedia: Rood is an English unit of area, equal to one quarter of an acre or 10,890 square feet (1,012 m2) or 0.10 hectares). A rectangular area with edges of one furlong (i.e. 10 chains, or 40 rods) and one rod respectively is one rood, as is an area consisting of 40 perches (square rods). The rood was an important measure in surveying on account of its easy conversion to acres. When referring to areas, rod is often found in old documents and has exactly the same meaning as rood.[1]

As a white guy, I find her decisions baffling.  My black friends are nearly unified in their disdain, contempt, and anger.  I think that putting on blackness involves putting on all that has come before it, and white people simply cannot do that, however much they'd like to (for whatever absurd reason).  She seems genuine in her convictions, but I am reminded of those who pretend to military service or Native American ancestry.  Not yours!  The people who have it, earned it some fashion, or by virtue of having it have experiences you cannot have had, and as such you literally cannot be identified as one of them.

I was really surprised how good that book was. As a child of an alcoholic, and one who actually broke the chain, this really rung true. The shining I read as a kid (9 or 10) and really really identified with Danny. I was very trepidations about this - but it was fantastic. Not quite It or The Stand good, but just half a step down like Rose Madder.
