  2. Re: The Authority:What the heck? It's okay as a conceit for them to have vast powers, but it's problematic for them to not have much in the way of worthy opponents--how about one they can't just kill off?
  3. Re: The Authority:What the heck? If anybody figures out how to shut down their ship's teleporter, they're probably dead meat.
  4. Re: Super Metals and Alloys Promethium and Inertron are the two ultra-tough materials in DC. IIRC, promethium is on a par with so-called secondary adamantium, and inertron may actually be tougher than true adamantium.
  5. Re: Asteroid impact effects Well, in a 150 AP game, some guy with 30 STR, plus 24 levels DI at half END, and 30" flight, 5 levels megascale, half end, could make quite a splash on edit--10 billion megatons of energy, and a 560 mile crater--zoinks! jinkies! zoinks and jinkies!
  6. Re: Asteroid impact effects The theoretical maximum speed for a railgun accelerated projectile is 150km/s. you could plug in a 1m or 10m heavy iron projectile slamming into a planet at that speed. probably a pretty good city bombardment weapon, if horribly inaccurate.
  7. Re: The Authority:What the heck? well, there have been a lot of political themes in comics lately--JSA just had a plot involving the takeover of a country by superheroes, and so did Fantastic Four. I think those plots have taken on more depth and realism, as the readers(and writers) have matured. Usually the result is kind of a muddled mess--the heroes improve some things, but in the process they lose much of their moral focus.
  8. Just a whim, but I wonder what comic book villains would make great heroes in some alternate universe, and how would their storyline be different? And, what heroes would make great bad guys, in an alternate universe? I think Victor Von Doom would make an interesting hero--the Doom 2099 book was one of the more passable 2099 books, IMO. Batman would be a terrific crime lord, his motivation for revenge leading him toward the wrong side of the law. Who do you guys think would be an interesting "alignment switch"?
  9. Re: Phermones well, stats above 20 are supposed to be one in a million, so probably someone who consistently lands on one of those '50 most beautiful' lists, 'hot 100' lists, etc, probably rates a 20+ COM. Prime Michelle Pfeiffer probably would rate a 20+ COM(since every interview I ever read began by saying, "she really is that beautiful in person")
  10. Re: Phermones I hope that character has some resistant defenses, since 96 points worth of arousal on everyone in the area will quite possibly get them torn limb from limb by overzealous paramours. The Fem Force RPG has the best descriptions for appearance levels, from what I recall. It's also the only superhero RPG which lists character measurements on their official stats
  11. Re: What superhero character concepts are you tired of seeing? No, they don't, but those characters usually have backstories about what made them heroic. Part of it may have involved their training, and part of it was some formative experience(s) which shaped their perspective on things. I think the complaint about "I'm a mutant, mmkay"-type origins is that sometimes, a) the player doesn't bother much with describing those formative experiences, and b)the player is trying to make a do-everything PC without any real effort to justify it conceptually. Whether the genre is 'realistic' or not, it should have some conceptual continuity,IMO.
  12. Re: Authority supplement cover shot Thanks! I have the Tri-Stat D-X book, so I can go from there I think a DBZ game would likely use a d20 as a base, instead of the d10 they use in Silver Age Sentinels.
  13. Re: What would you character do... hmmm...well, going through my list of major characters I've played in the last 10 years... Edge used to do espionage and "wetwork" for various government agencies--depending on how destabilizing the team was, he'd likely start taking requests Iron Golem is a former Special Forces demolition expert--he'd most likely answer the call, along with the rest of his teammates, to put these guys down once they went over the line Tech Wiz would actually be initially intrigued at the chance to make a difference in the world, and might offer his technological assistance, but once the body count got started, he'd turn on them fast Kid Wonder would be highly annoyed that they were getting away with stuff way worse than what he got into trouble(and felt much guilt) over, and would ask where he could sign up to kick their tails Captain Yamato would come to the aid of her country, as always, probably in the awkward position of defending whaling vessels against such a team. Karl Raven, being an evil calculating mentalist masquerading as a superhero, would fit right in with such a team, and would probably scheme his way to leadership Overman would take an instant dislike to such a team, because of their putting themselves above humanity, and would willingly join the resistance to them--he'd probably write a song about it, too. Deus Ex Machina(a GMPC/plot device) is an "involuntary dimensional conqueror" slumming for fun as a superhero in this world, and everyone else in his realm has lost their free will as a result of the biggest mistake in his existence; so the interference in the free will of the people would clearly bother him. He'd try to persuade the "heroes" to change their methods. They'd "kill" him, most likely, then he'd come back in a month to crush them like colorfully clad bugs.
  14. Re: Authority supplement cover shot anybody know a good Tri-Stat to Hero conversion link? Ehhh...the "Earth Special Forces" from DBZ would stomp all of 'em except for the Doctor
  15. Re: Ultimate Brick -- What Things Weigh Earth--5.98 x 10^24 kg--in english measurements, 6600 billion billion tons. Around a 385 STR to "lift" The Sun is about a million times heavier. The heaviest dense coherent object is probably a neutron star, which can weigh up to two solar masses. With a 1000 STR you can juggle them using casual STR anyone know what the weights are for a regulation golf ball and other sporting spheroids?
  16. Re: What superhero character concepts are you tired of seeing? teenaged anything. "cute and perky" anything.
  17. Re: Things a wise super hero should NEVER say "Like I'm gonna be scared of some crazy gypsy wearing plate mail and a green cape!" "Come on guys, sure he's big, but how tough can he be wearing that big purple helmet with the boomerang ears?"
  18. Re: Is this technique now considered legal?
  19. Re: Is this technique now considered legal? From a GMing standpoint, treat limitations on powers as cumulative--that is, if a power has -2 in total limitations on it, it's pretty heavily hampered, and this should be made evident in most sessions. No free points. A typical abuse is the Act.15-/SE(full) combo, which yields a whopping -1.25 in limitations. It only comes up about once every 20 rolls, but once it does it should be appropriately devastating; IIRC, SE effectively do NND damage to the PC. The extra time limitation should not give that much value to the PC, maybe a -1/2 on top of the OIF(at most), for a -3/4 to -1 in total overall limitations. I might even suggest that it be a physical lim disad(takes one turn to put on suit--frequent, major) on the PC instead of a power limitation.
  20. Re: What are the most annoying player habits! Players who pay no attention to the game when their character isn't involved directly in a scene, then ask for a recap every time they come back in--aagh! I only ask players to : 1. Pay attention. 2. Participate in each session actively. 3. be Prepared for each game(dice, current writeup, knowledge of what happened last session, gameplan for character's actions based upon what may have happened last time). P3, for short
  21. Re: What are the most annoying player habits! People who want to play the black sheep/loose cannon type, even in a game where not working closely together will get everyone in trouble really fast. Worse still, half or more of the group wanting to play the black sheep.
  22. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority There are a variety of ways to make the campaigns Master Villains(no, not the PCs ) able to survive for a good long while. First, the super-sorcery types can have contingency spells which spirit them to safety whenever they are rendered unconscious or badly hurt. Second, the use of androids, clones, etc are perfectly reasonable for high-tech villains. third, supertough villains might even be as immortal as the PCs, and essentially regenerate from death. Mastermind and puppeteer types might operate covertly and by proxy--perhaps they run a high tech company which philanthropically offers assistance in deploying new technology rapidly throughout society. The MVs would have to have some kind of individual 'edge' on the PCs to be relevant. One of them might be smarter than any PC; another might be slightly more powerful than any one PC; one might have some connections or abilities which are very difficult for the heroes to counteract. Think of the villain lineup involved in the Avengers "Acts of Vengeance" storyline, or one of the lineups for the Injustice League. A villain team like that could give the heroes fits while still not necessarily being directly opposed to their plans.
  23. Re: So, Who Else Is Gonna Grab Galactic Champions ASAP??
  24. Re: Real World Issues in the Game World In my current campaign timeline, MLK was never assassinated, and served a couple terms in the 80s. On the lighter side, the United States was taken over by an alien in 1993, and the single short term of Chon-Dorr the Conqueror is still remembered fondly("Best president we ever had...sigh...")
