  1. Re: WWYYCD: The Rally In Canada, a KKK or equivalent rally would be illegal under the "hate speech" provisions of the Criminal Code, so the speakers are criminals automatically. Faye would take great pleasure in picking up the stage, speakers, and sound system and flying them to the parking lot of the nearest police station. Most of of my other current characters aren't in a position to be called on for crowd control, but the one who is would do so, but very reluctantly. In the time and place Henutsen is from (Egypt, about 4,600 years ago), encouraging large-scale uprisings would probably be considered treason. Not mention the KKK would hate her for her origins, her gender, and the sin of having both power and education.

  3. Re: Shazam! Sadly, no. Inuit mythology is very hard to find information on, at least in my experience.
  4. Re: Shazam! One of my characters, my only Captain Marvel type, had the word "Untano" Ukaliit, the snowshoe hare: Invisibility Natsiq, the seal: Swimming Tuktut, the caribou: Swift running Amaruit, the wolf: Tracking Nanook, the bear: Strength Ookpik, the arctic owl: Silent flight All of these are Iniktitut words.
  5. Re: What power would you buy (with a twist) 1d6 Aid to Com (10pts), +3 points maximum(+6), fades 1 point/decade (+3), Cannot raise COM above 26 (-0), Concentrate (1/2 DCV), Extra Time (1 hour). Active cost: 64, real cost 15 You're the ultimate plastic surgeon.
  6. Re: WWYCD: Fundamentalist against non-tech supers. Assuming she's gone public by this point, Faye would tackle him straight on: Fly into his church during one of his sermons. "I've been waiting for someone like you to show up. Since you like the Bible so much, let me give you a little quote: 'And Jesus said to his disciples, "I give you power over unclean spirits."' So, if I'm either an unclean spirit or empowered by them, you should be able to strip me of my powers, or at least drive me from your church just by ordering it. Up for it?"
  7. Re: WWYCD: A spooky ghost Liane: "Jonathan!" Ika would pull her spirit cutting knife and give the faker a rude surprise. She's deeply superstious, and prone to a "hit first, ask later" mentality.
  8. Re: WWYCD if their reflection suddenly winked at them? Liane: "Jonathan!" He's an illusionist with an odd sense of humour. He also should not be in a position to generate that particular illusion. Faye: "Gyah!" and just... stare. If the reflection goes back to acting normal after that, she'll relax and stop giving herself a headache. Ika: Exorcise the mirror. She really doesn't understand how mirrors work. Phoenix: Contact David (Kim, is that the right person? I know we have contact with at lest one mage)
  9. Re: A Simpler WWYCD: The Lights Go Out However did you guess?
  10. Re: A Simpler WWYCD: The Lights Go Out Faye would consider the first priority to get the busses to their nearest stops; many of the local municipalities use electric busses powered from overhead lines. Then get the Skytrains to their nearest terminals; they're electrically powered too. After that, what the passengers do is up to them, but the vehicles will be in locations where they won't be blocking traffic, and will be easily found later. Once that's done, if the power's not back on, she'll assist the police in clearing the inevitable traffic accidents. Fixing the problems, she'll leave to Hydro. That's what they're paid to do, and the unions do *not* take well to freelancers "interfering."
  11. Re: WWYCD - a deal with the devil Champion Wind would just stare at him for several seconds. "You've got to be joking. I was chosen and empowered to fight the forces of Darkness, you honestly think I'm going to cut a deal with the Prince of Darkness?" Ika predates most of the concepts involved in the deal. She literally wouldn't understand the offer. Phoenix happens to know a couple of mystical types. She'd go talk to them, *then* tell him to get lost. Faye would figure he's just a particularly loopy super. She doesn't believe in the Devil taking flesh and walking the world, so her reply would be essentially the same as Londo's initial reaction to Mr. Morden: "You are a lunatic, go away."
  12. Re: WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Champion Wind would go ballistic. She believes, honestly and sincerely, that she is a magical girl, chosen and empowered to fight the forces of Darkness. She's entirely wrong, but that's beside the point. A second Champion Wind would obviously be a fake, some sort of Nightmare Lord or similar, in need of tracking down and possibly dispatching. At least that would be her take on it.
  13. Re: WWYCD: Omelas The problem is not that, Zeropint. I'm not arguing it. You'rce entirely correct, and the story is very powerful. What bugs me is that the situation presented in the story simply doesn't work. Given the near-zero margin for error in any EDB flight, the boat should never have been allowed to launch with the girl's extra mass on board. This isn't about security, it's about making sure the EDB can complete its mission. What would the pilot be expected to do if the mass of the needed medicines was more than listed?
  14. Re: WWYCD: Omelas In the original story, the big ships, commercial carriers, operated on very tight schedules, too tight for them to divert to deal with emergencies. So when they recieved such a call, the crew equipped an Emergency Dispatch Boat to deal with it, then dropped into normal space at their closest approach to the problem site, let the EDB go, and returned to their regular circuits. EDBs were the lightest, flimsiest ships possible, designed to do only one thing: Get There Fast. Everything about them was designed to cut mass to a minimum. Unfortunately, the story founders on one key point: Wouldn't the EDB be weighed before launch, to be sure it could Get There Fast enough? We weigh modern spacecraft before launch, after all. To be fair to the author, this was not commonly known or easily discoverable when he wrote the story.
  15. We all know Superman's origin. But... what if, instead of being a white boy raised on a farm by white folks, Superman had been black? And raised by a black farming family? What differences might this have led to? Please, no flames. I'm not posting this to be racist or offensive, it's just a "What if?" I came up with, and would appreciate some thoughts about.
  16. Re: You know your PCs have an Image Problem if... - The Pro declined your offer to join - you're too sleazy for her.
  17. Re: Used to Cost Endurance (-1/4) Not a valid limitation. A limitation that doesn't limit your use of a power isn't worth anything.
  18. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... In a Sailor Moon crossover, you lose your first fight. To Luna. You're playing a Captain Marvel type, and your wizard (an SF fan) gives you the wisdom of Gaius Baltar. It's your best power.
  19. Re: What's the Big Difference? Champion Wind believes herself to be a magical girl, empowerd forthe purpose of fighting the forces of Darkness in the form of the Nightmares, creatures that are basically people's dark sides gone out for a walk. In her counterpart's world... she is.
  20. Re: WWYCD: The Safe Faye: Would bone up on safecracking techniques, practice on a regular combination lock, then try it. She's a 690 point telekinetic with lots of vocational skills and some rather unusual powers. That safe doesn't stand a chance (at least in her opinion).
  21. Re: Ethics for mentalists By way of reference, the phrasing in the books is "The target will remember the actions and think they were his own idea." I believe the full text goes on to say that the target will come up with some sort of rationalization. On a different matter, let's suppose that you have an addiction counsellor with either Mental Transform or a truly huge Mind Control, sufficient to implant a command that will last for months or years, "You will refrain from (addictive substance)." Is this unethical, and if so why?
  22. Re: Ethics for mentalists That's true. Let me rephrase things slightly: I'm not saying that the aforementioned use of Misd Control is ethical, just that i'm not entirely sure it *isn't* ethical. I am, however, quite sure it's sleazy.
  23. Re: Ethics for mentalists Not quite. If, in this example, he get the +20, she is not harmed by the experience - or rather, she's not harmed any more than she would be by any other bad date. Do you now claim it is unethical to be a bad date?
