  2. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? In re: Batman and the Joker, the wrong question is being asked. Batman will not kill the Joker; to do so would be to violate his moral code irredeemably. He would kill if it were the true only option, as it was with the KGBeast, but he can can defeat the Joker without need of killing. The proper question is "Why do the authorities not throw the Joker into the most secure holding facility possible?" Under US law, it's entirely permissible to use any means necessary to confine a convicted felon, so long as those means are truly necessary. For a couple of good examples from the DC universe, Mouse Man was placed in a birdcage hung in a regular cell, with a cat posted as an extra guard. Killer Frost, whose powers work by absorbing heat from her surroundings, was placed in a cell kept at a constant temperature barely above that of liquid nitrogen. So why isn't the Joker kept under security at least as tight as that placed on Dr. Lecter? He's just as insane and just as dangerous. Don't fault Batman for holding to his morals; fault the authorities for not getting through their thick heads that the Joker is intolerably dangerous and insane.
  3. Re: Just how realistic can you get and still have a "superhero" game? I think that to qualify as a "superhero" story, two elements are essential: 1) The main characters(s) must possess abilities that the ordinary inhabitants of the setting either cannot or do not. Batman qualifies because of his extreme range of competence; Green Arrow qualifies because his skill verges on the supernatural. 2) The main characters must deal with threats, problems, and hazards that people without their abilities simply are unable to deal with effectively. Granted, these two elements are present in many stories that are not generally considered superheroic, but they are present in all stories that are. Applying these two tests to a given character's career can yield false positives (Doc Savage, the Lensmen, arguably Sherlock Holmes and Tarzan), but it cannot yield a false negative.

  6. Re: Karate Kid vs Karate Kid Val wins, no question. Let's face it: A kid who can only barely win a regional tournament isn't going to last five seconds against someone who can take on a Kryptonian and win. Assuming a structured, tournament-styled scored match, Val will socre two points in two seconds. Possibly less than that. Daniel loses. Mr. Miagi finds new sensei.
  7. Re: Punisher Vs Batman Let's see: The Punisher: Decorated vet and ex-cop. Subtle as a train wreck, generally. Good shooter, passable brawler. I'm not thoroughly familiar with the Punisher, but frankly he doesn't seem to be all that. Bruce Wayne: One of the greatest martial artists in the DC universe. The world's greatest detective. A suberb tactician and strategist, only people like the Joker (who's completely psychotic) can out-plan him. Batman is all that and a side of fries. Barring some extraordinary fluke, if Batman and the Punisher were to cross paths and be at odds, the Punisher would lose.
  8. In the Teen Titans TV show, Cyborg is immune to Brother Blood's mental powers because his brain's partly electronic, and the Fixer couldn't remote control him becaues his brain's also partly organic.. Presumably one would need "Extra class of minds: Computer" to affect Cyborg. How would you represent this in Hero?7
  9. Re: Superhero Pope: Ridiculous or Sublime? Certain concepts just don't work. This comic is at least three of them.
  10. Re: What's the most ridiculous PC you've ever been subjected to? The Unspeakables? Or perhaps the Unbelievables?
  11. Re: Design Help Needed - How to BUild The LOSV's NEMESIS KID? He's a djinn, formed of smokeless fire (high-energy plasma), bound by the Guardians of the Universe to perform three services (grant three wishes) to the ones who free him. The Guardians had hoped that their imprisonment and subsequent servitude would teach the djinn the need for humility and self-restraint. It didn't work with Kantuu.

    Super Pope?

Re: Super Pope? One thing people tend to forget about Catholicism: According to their doctrine (or is it dogma? Can someone tell us which?), only the Pope is infallible, and that only when he is speaking ex cathedra, "from the Throne," which he very rarely does; the last time was, I believe, over one hundred years ago.
  13. Re: Design Help Needed - How to BUild The LOSV's NEMESIS KID?
  14. Re: Design Help Needed - How to BUild The LOSV's NEMESIS KID? One thing to note is that in his first appearance, Nemesis Kid got himself flattened by Duo Damsel. He could defeat any one opponent, but his power couldn't give him the ability to defeat two of her.
  15. Re: The "The Invisibles Writeups " is really "The Incredibles Writeups" Jack-Jack isn't a character, he's a plot device
  16. Re: Character for review Actually, it will. You'll note the five fixed locations fol Teleportation. She works a bit like a Pernese dragon that way: after she goes there she can learn a place and jump back to it. I figure that I can always buy more locations with XP. Remeber that her Flight has Variable Advantage on it, so she can handle mega-distances. Five locations, plus short-range "hops" from there plus high-speed flight is enough to cover most of Canda's population centres.
  17. Re: Character for review None of which is providing any suggestions for my most recent open question: Do you have any suggestion for how Faye could make with her powers? High profile and low profile methods are both wecome.
  18. Re: Character for review She learned German at home; her family is German, she speaks German. I personally have known kids from Polish, German and Ukranian families who learned these languages growing up. French is something every Canadian kid learns in school to at least some degree. Cantonese represents various phrases picked up from Chinese friends; Vancouver has a large Asian population.
  19. Re: Character for review I'd also like some suggestions on ways for Faye to make money with her powers. Her Secret ID disadvantage will likely be replaced by Public ID or similar at some point, so both low-profile and high-profile methods are acceptable.
  20. Re: A costume challenge I've been assuming she's just super-tough.
  21. Re: A costume challenge So long as it's not the roller disco outfit she dreawed that one time.
  22. Re: A costume challenge There are similarities, yes...
  23. Re: A costume challenge Well, she hates drawing attention to herself, and she's pretty well the ultimate bibliophile - to the point that if you hurt a kid, she might well hurt you back, but if you threaten a library or bookstore or anything like that... were you born an idiot, or did you pick up the trade in your early manhood?
