My wife and I went on vacation last month. The resort we've been visiting for 15 years has been subjected to so much cost cutting and so many price hikes that it's no longer fun to be there. They can't even handle basic functions like keeping things working or preparing food safely any more. But we realized whereas in years past we would have been effectively stuck there because we would have flown in, this time we'd driven. So we decided to get what we could from the hotel to compensate us for the terrible time we had (which involved food poisoning, backed up drains, and more), and then bug out halfway through our planned vacation.

And that's just what we did. We got a voucher for the nights we'd stayed and a refund for the nights we hadn't yet stayed, along with a credit for our food purchases and the like. Then we left.

We had a great vacation from that point on! We took a long route home and enjoyed the drive and our time in LA, TX, and OK. It was the best vacation we'd had in years.

So we've decided to do more of that in the future. More driving vacations where we spend a little time in a number of new-to-us places, doing new things.

It's nice to be excited about our future vacations again.

Well, if you insist on bringing up specific examples within the context of "reality" within the MCU: cast a blonde white girl as the champion and symbol of an African nation? Yeah, I'd expect that to call down the fury of hell on everyone involved, and it would be well justified.

Asgardians aren't Norwegians. Heimdall is the guardian of the Bifrost, it's very possible he was never even on Earth for humans to see. Even if they did, there are so many departures from myth in the MCU -- Loki being Thor's brother only the biggest one -- it seems obvious that the Scandinavians embellished what they heard about the "gods" in whatever manner they preferred. Heck, Thor in all their stories is a redhead.

Sure but cast Shuri as a blonde white girl and you get the same effect.  Except that's blasphemy and would call down the fury of hell on everyone involved.  Its ludicrous, Norwegian people would have, you know NOTICED if Heimdall was black as coal and said something about it.  Like the Greeks did with Hephaestus.  There's no reason to do this other than "there's too many honkeys in this cast" which always, always bothers me: that fixation on race and color to the point of pandering.

Instead of the tediously brainless Kat Dennings, cast a black girl.  Or instead of Stellan Skarsgard (who I like as much as Idris Elba) cast a black guy who is just a professor fixated on Norse mythology.  But turning one of the Asgardians into a black dude?  It was ludicrous and out of place.

Sadly, that hydra has many heads.  The Sinclairs of Sinclair Broadcast Group.  All the Fox execs running Facebook and NewsNation.  John Malone's recent purchase of CNN.  Ye's purchase of Parler.  Elon's purchase of Twitter.  And all the other think tanks and SuperPACS controlled by right wing billionaires like the Kochs, Mercers, and Peter Thiel, among others.  Murdoch was merely the first of many.

Joe Walsh reacted to Lord Liaden in DC Movies- if at first you don't succeed...
I see some validity in your point, Hugh, but I would say that the Marvel movies, at least through the first two Phases, stuck to the core of who their characters were as people, whatever other details were changed around that. Tony Stark was a cocky super-rich genius whose view on his life changed when confronted by the consequences of his actions. Thor the arrogant warrior god-prince was forced to learn humility and compassion for others. Bruce Banner was a good man with a raging monster inside him, always at risk of coming out. Captain America was physically frail but an heroic idealist in mind and heart, granted a body to match his spirit. And so on.

Most of the changes to the characters were superficial details which didn't change who they are, in some cases making more sense. I mean, the feats we see Captain America perform in the comics, there's no way a "peak human" would be physically able to pull off.

I was looking at Green Ronin's Mutants & Masterminds Reprint Extravaganza and More! kickstarter, and it got me thinking about Hero. It seems like so many books are OOP, and it'd be nice to see them back on the shelves, and I thought this might be a great way of bringing them back. Or even looking at revising them slightly...

I'll believe it when someone actually handcuffs the man.  He's been boasting about his crimes now for six years and he literally tried to overthrow the government.  Nothing.

She-Hulk: The S1 finale was just wonderful, at least from the perspective of this John Byrne era She-Hulk fan. I loved it and I hope there's a second season someday.

It is also canon that they fixed the platform so that she can't do that trick again.  So, we don't have to worry about her making a habit out of it.

I didn't really see evidence of any mind control going on. For all we know, K.E.V.I.N. just gave Matt another case. I don't think he'd need to be mind controlled into having lunch with Jen and her family.

    Quoth Jessica Gao:

"The Jon Byrne comic run was the one that made me fall in love with this character in the first place. What was so great about that run was that it was so fun and light. There was this great levity to it that you weren't used to if you read a lot of superhero comics, because, you know most superhero comics are very action-oriented, very dramatic, a lot of them tend to get heavy. It's a lot of serious men dealing with serious issues. This run of She-Hulk comics was such a breath of fresh air to have this fun, irreverent, female-forward comic about this woman who, even if she was dealing with saving the city or saving the universe, she was doing it with this lightness to her."

And it does seem that it's taken a cue from the Byrne run. It may not have had the best execution, but she's saying she read the comics, and I don't see any reason not to believe her.

I didn't think it was great, but it was OK enough that I'd like to see a second season, but with a little more oversight from someone who understands how to structure a show, and less of an agenda of "well, let's make fun of the guys who don't like female superheroes." It'd be interesting to see something, even from the same crew, with more focus on story and less on sticking it to the haters. Let 'em hate. Make a good show. You can make a good show exploring women's issues without it being a dialog with the most toxic part of your fan base.

I ask because I’ve been waiting for “inevitable” demographics growth to defeat the GOP for three decades and it still hasn’t happened yet. Nor will it if people blindly assume that minorities will vote against the GOP.  Many minority voters are socially conservative enough to vote for a party that would deport them at the earliest possible opportunity.
