  1. Re: A "tactics elemental" I played a character in a Super Agents campaign that could do just that. I went with Overall levels, but you could make do with 8 point Combat levels.
  2. Re: The Black Paladin is vanquished.... Please. No artifact of arcane power ever exerted influence on anyone. They're harmless. Go ahead, pick one up. Go on.
  3. Re: Pulp Hero Very cool site- lots of Pulp flavor. Is your NPC page not up? I keep getting a dead link. I agree with what you say about pulp, but I'd add that some of the burden falls on the GM. Having characters that are 200 pts or 50 pts doesn't make much difference if the campaign doesn't have a pulp feel. It's a long read, but I'd offer this to anyone as a good primer for pulp games: THE PULP AVENGERS: Game Mastering Pulp Adventures in the 1930s and 1940s
  4. Re: The New Circle Well, they won't be pretty, but I'll see what I can do.
  5. Re: The New Circle Love 'em all, even though I think I've seen that last trick somewhere... Any chance we'll see Calhoun the fire elemental or the sorceror Bivolo-of-Many-Colours?
  6. Re: Special virgin powers? Ultimate Supermage had a character that was a virgin, but it was mentioned in passing since the good and bad tends to balance out, particularly in a mystic campaign. On the upside, she could hang with unicorns. On the downside, she was a spell component.
  7. Re: Pulp game questions When I made my character, Johnny Danger, I was trying to simulate the same thing you were talking about in your first post- how to get around characters going splat when they take a hit. We later realized that you could stuff a stick of dynamite down Johnny's shirt and he has a good chance of surviving, but the core concept is there, even if the execution was a little much. Since this was pre-5th ed., I went with a small Elemental Control, but you could also go the route of the new talent Combat Luck (which is just some Armor with limitations). Overall levels are good too, since they help simulate the larger than life feats of pulp heroes, and can be applied to DCV in combat.
  8. Re: Pulp game questions The GM for the Pulp Hero game I play in put together some player guidelines on his site. Thrilling True Tales!!! The character creation stuff is pretty much boilerplate, but the house rules may provide some options for your group. Link back to the table of contents, and have a look at our character backgrounds and character sheets as well. They aren't updated to 5th Ed. (the site in general hasn't), but I think our group has a good primer for heroic level Pulp Hero.
  9. Re: Lightray's Craaazy Character Challenge! Already been done. Armless Tiger Man Getting the GM to post his pet villain may take some convincing though.
  10. Re: NPC Help:The Order of the Cross Waaaaaay back in the days of Comico, Bill Willingham's Elementals featured a group called the Rapture. Its members were each named after a verse in the bible, describing their powers. Unfortunately, my exposure was second hand, so I don't know the what the characters where like, i.e. powers and such. I did a Google search, but the best I cold come up with was a list of members: Genesis 6:4 (There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.) Exodus 10:21 (Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that over the land of Egypt there may be such intense darkness that one can feel it." ) Leviticus 26:22 (I will unleash the wild beasts against you, to rob you of your children and wipe out your livestock, till your population dwindles away and your roads become deserted. ) Judges 15:14 (When he reached Lehi, and the Philistines came shouting to meet him, the spirit of the LORD came upon him: the ropes around his arms became as flax that is consumed by fire and his bonds melted away from his hands.) Matthew 27:51 (And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split,) Isaiah 6:2 (Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft.) You might also look at In Nomine, from Steve Jackson Games. I could see a team similarly themed on different angels.

  12. Re: Goodbye Washington DC Alot of what people equate with the idea or spirit of America sits right along the mall (sorry Philidelphia). I think you have to consider- or offer some stipulations- what the public's reactions might be before you can flesh out a scenario.
  13. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images The more I think about it the more I realize it's a matter of taste. What I was trying to say is that you might try using colors that are not as bright or strong in your palette. Although a mix is good- or your stuff will look muddy- to my eye, colors that are too bright make some of the figures look a little flat. Compare the reds on these to see what I mean:
  14. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images I find that the face is one of the hardest parts to design in a program like Photoshop, so I'll usually borrow those. Unless you're working in very high resolutions, it's not really suited for that kind of detail- Illustrator or Freehand, or any other vector based program will give you nicer results. The tutorial I linked to recommends using the pen tool, but I find it very involved and/or difficult to use. Your lines are pretty clean etherio, did you use the pen tool or the line tool? Your stuff looks good, though I'd suggest trying out some desaturated colors to see how they look.
  15. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images This site has a pretty good tutorial: http://formula119.com/eqtaa/index2.html A little complicated, but you can fudge some of the steps. I use Photoshop, but pretty much any program that can work with layers should be okay. After that it's just finding the right template and originals to work off of. Anyways, here are a couple more I've done- Karagoz, Master of Mystery, and his aviatrix sidekick, Rosie Renault.
  16. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images Thanks, I wouldn't at all mind tossing a few more into the mix. The Great White Ape of Empire City, Kerzak:
  17. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images I posted a number of these on the DCU Animated website a while back, but that site has been under reconstruction for some time. My original intent was to design some Cardboard Heroes for Thrilling True Tales!!!, the Pulp Hero game I play in, but I got enough of a response from people that I started creating characters to fill in the GM's world. Here is my own character, Johnny Danger, BTAS style.
  18. Re: What Published CU Characters Would You Love To Have Your Character(s) Fight? I'd take a guess, but the first rule is you're not allowed to talk about it. Cybermind would be a good candidate. I could see him taking the a role like DC's Oracle (or Calculator, if you've looked at Identity Crisis), for bad guys. Ideally he's hard to track down, difficult to manage, and a good vehicle for making a bunch of losers more effective.
  19. Re: Wedding Bells Are Ringing! Prometheus would give them a Moses basket and a nice, hard-bound copy of the Farmer's Almanac for the year 2008.
  20. Re: [Pulp] Suggested Reads Anyone ever have a look at the comic strip series Corto Maltese by Hugo Pratt? I don't know that it fits any of the definitions of "Pulp" given, but the stories have some little bits of the same flavor. I could see some of the plots being lifted, expanded, and polished for a few good Pulp Hero adventures.
  21. Re: Why is Superman being called stupid? Nope, that can't be it. In DC: 1,000,000 he burnt out a 853rd century computer by using it to formulate tactics at superspeed. It just comes down to what people have already said. If Supes or Wally used their full potential- and not just in combat- writers would be tearing their hair out trying to fill 19 pages worth of comic book.
  22. Re: Favorite Pulp Character I'd have to go with Tarzan and the Shadow. There are write ups for them on the web, and some people have elaborated on their abitlites in the past, so I don't think too much has to be said. High end stats for the Lord of the Jungle- with a few superskills- and either a mental power framework (radio) or a large crimefighting skillset (magazines) for the Shadow. Followers for both. In the "pulpish" vein, I've always liked The Phantom. He's practically a fusion of Tarzan and the Shadow, so you could base a simple write up on those two.
  23. Re: Reward-based Points Campaign Guidelines My Pulp Hero GM did something like this, but through XP, and in small amounts. Players who (promptly) contributed to the group's website, helped flesh out the campaign world, or designed/built game aids got a few XP to add to their characters. You may have a few problems with different visions from different people, or the temptation to power game ("If I make another villain I get 50 more points, hmmm..."), but you can always adjust it to taste.
  24. Re: Weak Supers who just needed better writers
  25. Re: Weak Supers who just needed better writers I have to say that just about any character that can mimic the animal kingdom (Changeling, Vixen, Animal Man, etc.) tends to be underpowered when their writers aren't top notch. With animals like chameleons, ants, and ring worms out there, they should be able to put together an impressive power suite. Or have the ability to cycle through some impressive abilities at least.
