  1. Re: Surfer girl character name A little more in the way of personality traits and background would help. Is this betty a physics geek or would she get given her name by one? Is she going to go for a seashredder name or something cosmic? Something keying off of special effects? Some thoughts: Wavelength Starcrest Starcarver Lightrider Sick Chick
  2. Re: Order of the Stick Tarquin immolated rebels to show how much he cares.
  3. Re: Order of the Stick Smart, charming evil? Those are the NPCs that make GMing worthwhile.
  4. Re: Order of the Stick Still Haley is the named lieutenant of the group and the backup leader. I guess Tarquin hasn't seen her at her best. Or is really blind where women and offspring are concerned.
  5. Re: Order of the Stick I'm as impressed with the plan as in Elan's ability to follow the explanation and ask telling questions. "As you are the leader of your little band." HA!

  7. Re: Cheap Supers Most, if not all, of the ingredients would become ridiculously expensive as a result of being government regulated and prohibited. And just about every person in the military and law enforcement would be given a swig. Things would seriously go off the rails as individuals developed power to match or exceed that of governments. We would end up with a few good super-samaritans, probably a few thousand celebu-titans all acting like spoiled Gravitars but if power and will coincide we are going to have conquerors.
  8. Re: Idle Distraction: Super Webcomics Ok, one archive cashed. Summer, Carrie and Uma's stories are my favorite and clearly the most fun for the artist to create so he's going to have to realize the main character Mister Mighty isn't the main character anymore. Gracias, Baloo.
  9. Re: Need help coming up with motive for Zeus in modern times. In my campaign world, Zeus was Sean Connery and had been since the Fifties. He had other mortal forms he took on occasion but Sean was his favorite. This was some time ago but if you wanted to update it with the same feeling you could use Pierce Brosnan. The man literally has a harem of assistants that Jubal Harshaw would envy.
  10. Re: Obfuscation and Unbreakable Vows... If it only beats tracking by sentients, then it's Mind Control and Mental Illusions at a ridiculous level because you are wiping memories and completely rewriting the world. If you allow these powers to "erase the tapes" when bought with Machine class of minds then groovy. To get the required level of result without the target being aware they have been messed with at the ranges you describe will require truly epic gobs of points well into Handwavium territory. Or you can use EDM.
  11. Re: Obfuscation and Unbreakable Vows... What a poor contrarian example the book provided, to say you can't hide your own scent. I can change my own scent with diet and mask/minimize it with clothing options and alternate odors. There is a reason that hunters leave their togs outside for a while and don't launder them with detergent, maximizing their Stealth/Concealment rolls versus Olfactory PER. You can take precautions against any sense you can imagine, but first you have to imagine. The best place to hide is in plain sight he said, producing his Poe from his writing desk. Identify your background and emulate it. If you're in a haystack, look like straw. But for the obfuscating ability in question, maybe you should reverse-engineer it. Decide what could penetrate it and build an ability that covers all else. Remember that some people will be fooled by looking for the building but the smart people will try to Detect the Power.
  12. Re: Obfuscation and Unbreakable Vows... Just sounds to me like the place has some magically-generated levels and bonuses for Concealment and opposing PER and Deduction rolls. Too simple? Mind Control means that it won't work against things without minds, or the right kind of mind, which doesn't sound like what you are shooting for. Now the unbreakable vow, that's Mind Control that persists over time so the breakout doesn't escalate.
  13. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... Their secret identities are Marianne Sioux and Martin Stew.
  14. Re: Icons - The Costume and Superpowers Store Dressing mirror universe.
  15. Re: Campaign Concept Source: "No Ordinary Family" The cop getting shot in the face wasn't serious enough? It's pretty apparent that the villains of this show don't play.
  16. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... A dice cup isn't voluminous enough to resolve your attacks. Your group uses a dice barrel. Your magical abilities are powered by Dr. Destroyer's tears, and you get no limitation because they aren't hard for you to acquire. Putting a billboard on the moon with an arrow pointed at the Earth and saying "We live here" was enough to thwart ten alien invasions. Istvatha Vhan keeps drunk dialing you, pleading for "just one more chance." Grond is your pet.
  17. Re: Naming the first superhero Whomever is hanging the name on first superhuman is going to have a huge effect on what name comes about. If Obama comes out with an introductory speech and relies on his favorite adjective you might end up with Unprecedented or Precedence. MSNBC might label him Progress or Progressive. Fox News might dub him Vigilante, Vigil, Minuteman, Militia, Patriot or come down hard with the criticism and an unflattering name. There is a world of difference between Newsweek and US Weekly getting to hang the name. How he dresses and his style is going to be huge also, whether board shorts, camo pants, black trenchcoat or whatever. How he goes about his business will be huge. Some people consider assistance interference and will vocally resent it. He might end up being The Interloper. And it seems that he is American because other nations would come up with other names. Pendragon, Lord Protector, Chevalier, Eisenkrieger, etc.
  18. Re: An Open Letter to the Boards About Surbrook's Stuff An Open Letter to Surbrook Regarding Surbrook's Stuff: Sir, you are the bee's knees. Thank you. --cp
  19. Re: How to build Anti-Sleep Stims with side effects What's the Side Effect? I would have it be a gradual cumulative Transform to someone with a Psych Comp: Irritable eventually becoming a full Enraged or Berserk.
  20. Re: Campaign Concept Source: "No Ordinary Family" Holy crap. I was just checking to confirm what I suspected and, yep, the daughter and Layla from Sky High are sisters. But Kay Panabaker's the one with the real life super brain. Valedictorian at 13?!
  21. Re: Campaign Concept Source: "No Ordinary Family" I'm starting to get on the Julie Benz bus also, and blondes aren't usually my cup of tea. JJ better develop super "I just got landed on by a 300 lb. guy and didn't get squished" powers if he is going to hold onto the ball long enough to try to deliver every pass. Part of the math of football is knowing when to throw it away. He might be better on the sidelines holding the clipboard as the best assistant coach ever. The plane crash was a huge, expensive red herring to include and just throw away unless the aberrant gene from the lab infects but needs a hugely stressful event to prompt and trigger the development of powers. Kinda like The Garden from Strikeforce Morituri. Just a thought. I hate the blandness of the title sequence, although I do like the way they include it at a varying point to establish an early cliffhanger and build suspense, but other than that I like a show that I can huddle up and watch with my whole family.
  22. Re: One person versus a starship? If I do 20 BODY damage to all the hexes of a planet-sized, megascale area some things might still survive, but what will they be standing on? If the Hulk was on Aldebaran, he would be floating in an asteroid field with no atmosphere left. HERO nukes and planet killers are dopey, and prompt the kind of DEF/DC escalation that chases its own tail until it is dizzy. Weapons evolve in design to the point where they will kill their target effectively but no more. There is no impetus to "kill it a lot," nothing that has any widespread, mass-produced effect. Accurate applied force is almost always preferable to more raw power. If your shot blows right on through the target, what if there is something you wanted unharmed on the other side? You either hesitate or start dealing out the collateral damage. Starships normally have the same vulnerability as battleships; if you let the outside in it usually works as well as destroying it outright. You don't have to annihilate the ship, just hole it. Now if you want that kind of total disintegration special effect and avoid the unpleasantness of vacuum exposure, just ramp up the resilience of the Life Support and sealant tech then the ships do have to knock each other to bits. Like most games, figure out the maximum DC potential of your players' characters (and also their potential characters because at least one player will always want to redesign/reincarnate as the most damage-inflicting that your game will allow) and adjust the armor accordingly. You should avoid Stormtrooper armor that can't stop rocks throw by Ewoks but you also don't have spaceships brought down by Wookiees with strongbows. Unless, of course, that is what you want.
  23. Re: Campaign Concept Source: "No Ordinary Family" I laughed loud enough to scare my kids with that one.
