  1. Re: Compensating for PC Abilities
  2. Re: Compensating for PC Abilities Hmm, while my experience is with a different class of gamebreaking powers(I'm a WOD 1.0 Storyteller, there is nothing but broken powers.) One of the things I've found works well is making sure your players don't feel the need to use those powers that often. Unless they're using them on every npc, then in that case, I think there's bigger problems. Though, knowledge of the limitations on them would be helpful. I was a player in a game where one had Truth Sense and the other had *tries to remember* a hundred+ VPP for mental senses, including telepathy. But both of them didn't break the game because of how the limitations worked that meant they didn't casually use those powers. Have a street level crook just blab when they're captured "You'll find out about it anyway." And let the info be just a little bit wrong, at the start. And all the other advice.
  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Honestly, I like his other series a lot better, Mutineer's moon being the best. I found the problem with Honor to be more his... homages, given that what he's writing is only following the origional material. *shrugs* My latest, for thread purposes? So, you Want to be a Wizard? Diane Duane And Wizard's War, by the same author. Wow, really seeing the differences... and I can't wait to see what she does next with the world. Wizard War is going to change a lot. Though I'm hoping for another cat book.
  4. Re: Comics you loved...but apparently no one else did Hmm, I'll be an wierd one here. I liked Darkhold(Marvel, early 90's) Though the art was awful, the storylines tended to be very solid and good, a perfect way to, as another thread puts is, do CoC in a superhero univers. And the characters... the characters made this book. Anyone else ever read it? Blade, The Vampire Hunter(mid 90's) I've read two printings of this series out. Good stuff. It's far more Tomb of Dracula then Nightstalkers, and there are a lot of moments when...let's just say there's reasons Blade doesn't consider himself a hero(He nearly turns a dying friend of his into a vampire, even though he knows it would endanger his friend's soul, to see if he can save two other friends of his). And the mysteries.... argh, I'd so love to see them take up even one of the threads of this book. Black Lamb(Helix, don't remember) I picked this up because it seemed... neat. Was not expecting the very black sense of humor in the slightest. And the main character *shudders*, was a good story, though I'm torn on deciding if it's good or not they didn't continue it, it was a complete story. But darn it, I want more of the world. (ps. On the age thing I just read, I'm 28. And I've read good comics, it's just hard to say, oh, Crimson, Out There or a few others when they were very popular.)
  5. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu? Actually, one of the interesting things about wasn't that... it was Lovecraft was one of the first writers to actually focus on what Non-Ecluidian geomentry would do to the brain. "A place with all the angles just a little bit off..." is a classic Lovecraft cliche. And a lot of the work they did in the sixties shows what happens when people are exposed to that.... they start going nuts. So, even if it's Horror... it was actually sci-fi.
  6. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 Sorry about not replying sooner, the last three weeks have been very bad for me(Two people quit at work, I was covering their shifts). I've got one more coming up that will be bad, then I should be back on a regular schedule which will let me have decent posting times. If you are willing to wait til then for me to post more frequently, I'd love to still be in the game. If not, that's fine.
  7. Re: I could watch him get slapped around all day *coughs* Darkhold 4(I think). Louise Hastings, one of the coolest mortal level characters ever(No superpowers, just smart, and not superoverthetop smart, either). Sabertooth got so righteously beatdown it was hilarious. My List? Dr. Strange:... I just really, really, really hate him. And I unfortunetly don't have all night to explain why. Hmm... don't know. Honestly, most just leave me blah if I don't like them.

    Worst Fear!

Re: Worst Fear! Um... how graphic do you want us to get? Crown Princess Cyrande does have a worst fear... but let's just say it's completely Iron Age.(She comes from Malva. And there's a reason she's a kill instead of capture type person at the start of the game...) Nox- um... well, Shadowstrike taking over. But Nox has already had to see her worst fears come to pass... and she won't break. Scatach? Hmm... Finding out that the elixer didn't make her capable of having kids... it just made her a portal for "other" entites....(Her family is one of the big cornerstones of her life. And she owes a life boon to Dr. Yue for letting her have kids after her fae extended life turned her sterile.)
  9. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 And just realized something myself. Every other Weekend, I'm likely going to be late posting(have an every other week D&D game that's a blast... but lasts from the time I'm off work till 3am) and work a long day Sunday. I will post, but it will likely be awkward hours to the rest of you. Oh, well, at least it is play by post.
  10. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 Sorry I didn't see earlier, work called me in(ugh, and on my day off for the third time this month). Application sent in, but didn't catch the package. Will do that as soon as I can talk to someone tomorrow. And thanks. One small correction, she's the daughter of Captain Marvel II, not three.
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... ... Ok, I just need to know context with this one. Sounds either very evil or very silly.
  12. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 LightShow Monica Rambeau wasn’t the best known of the Avengers, even with leading the team for a short while. So, her disappearance from hero circles was never considered a big deal, especially as the story brunted about was that her powers had been stripped from her. Which they had been… but the real reason she never sought to take up anything more then the police uniform again was born into her life six months after her powers were lost Elaine(meaning light) Rambeau didn’t grow up much different from other kids. Sure, her mom never talked about her dad, but… well, lots of kids she knew didn’t have dads. And her mom being a cop was cool, even if it did cut down on some of her hijinks that everyone in the department knew her. And even as her mom steered her gently away from becoming a cop, Elaine decided that she would have something to do with the law. Planning on going to law school, and studying hard, managing to pull a 3.5 average so she could get enough in scholarships to pay for school. So, it was with proud heart she walked across stage to get her diploma, with her mother and several other of her “uncle†cops watching… when a new version of the Masters of Evil attacked, seeking to kill Photon, with the new Avengers team forming up. Elaine scrambled to help get the other kids out of the area… and a stray shot from the battle, which should have fried her… instead awoke something. In a moment, Elaine’s physical form burnt away, transmuting to pure living energy. And, moving to face them, and draw off fire, Elaine managed to keep them occupied until the Avengers showed up. And then the shouting started, as Elaine viewed her mother’s secrecy about her past as a betrayal. Though, that stopped soon, when it was soon discovered Elaine didn’t have one thing about her mother’s powers. The ability to turn back into human form. Joining the Avengers, especially with their access to people who might be able to explain this and help her. And hey, it’s almost like being a cop… Physical description: Elaine doesn’t bother to wear a mask, given that her form no longer even looks like she did. Usually appearing as a near ghostly figure of a dark human form, depending on how drained she is, Elaine’s usual projected image is a adult black woman surrounded by a glow, dressed in either her white costume, modeled after her mothers, or in gauzy flowing clothes when she’s off duty. Personality: While Elaine is responsible for her age, she still tends to be overawed by working for the Avengers, and tries just a bit too hard to fit in. Hardworking, when she isn’t doing team stuff, she’s in her room, studying for her classes or trying, tentatively, to figure out how to fit in if she never gets back to human. And reposting the hdc
  13. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 Mostly done... saving a few points for last minute changes(old habit of mine)
  14. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 Ok, won't be able to post her until after I get off work, but mostly through with her disadvantages and powers. See you later.
  15. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 Since I'm curious about it... My idea is a just graduted daughter of Captian Marvel(Photon). Raised by her mother after her powers were stripped from her, Eliane Rambeau had no idea of her mother's career as a hero, besides the fact her mother got a stipend from the government. This all changed when some of the Avengers old foes attacked Eliane's high school graduation to kill her mother. And Eliane, being younger and more foolish, got in the way of the beam... and shone with light. Proceeding to just barely hold off the foes, who turned their attention to her, she, her mother and all the other people were rescued by the real Avengers. And Elaine, finding this out... argued to join them. After all, wasn't she a legacy as well. And there is no better group then to learn what to be a hero is like. So, a Photon has rejoined the ranks of the Avengers, this time determined to surpass her mother's legacy and become one of their shining stars. And with her raw determination to learn all about her powers, from the best she can, there's not much doubt she will... if she doesn't die first. OOC: Ah yes, a newbie hero with too much power for her own good. But she's nice and bright(pun intended) and should be a good counterpoint for the darker ones. Mainly going to focus on getting knowledges, and learning with her, getting over her star struckness at being a member of the Avengers.
  16. Re: What was your first character like? First character period? That would be, hmmm... I can't remember the name, but a TN fighter(random rolls... I ended up with 18/88 str, 16 Con, and 16 Dex, and nothing else below twelve in a 3d6, place as you go char gen.) In a 1st ed. D&D game... which was, and still remains one of the worst roleplaying experiences of my life. To this day, I despise random rolls. 6' 2", 18/88 Str... and I weighed 90lbs? (To give you an idea... The DM, right in the middle of the game, decided TN meant I had to roll to even see if I moved every attack round... and then a roll under my dex on d20 to see if I could use the two weapons, which is what he reccomended. Then stuck my and my sisters second level characters in a group... with two 15th level that had gobs of stuff.) First Vampire(Notice, I'd STed about six WW games before this) character: August, a Gangrel from England, had extreme fear of crowds. (Hey, she used to roam the streets at night precisely because there wasn't crowds.) Had a ton of fun with her... though her fellow players tying her up in a train station was kind of mean. First Champions character... Cyrande. Which is posted here. A ton of fun... and got me in fully with the rest of my current group, so it's all the good.
  17. Re: When (that super hero) won you over Actually, the Krypto moment for me... was in PS238. about issue four or six(I just have the trade. It's the one with the journey to the moon), A very bittersweet story, in what up to then had been a comedy book... and it marked the turn from PS238 being a good book to a darn well great book.
  18. Re: WWYCD: Hostages for the Holidays This is just tailormade for Nox, as Sherry. She's an orphan(at the age of eight), is a nice person, and would enjoy going in, and trying to talk with him, maybe having him bake cookies with her and talk about what Christmas was like with his family.(Note, if my GM ran this, this would be about the point a second supervillian came in to take Nox out while she's unarmored, or a VIPER decoy, but I'd still go into it.) Cyrande... would be completely lost. Heck, by the time Micro and Starguard managed to explain to her why the heck he was doing this, and why it was bad, the rest of the team would have dealt with it.
  19. Re: Who's the most evil villain in CU?
  20. Re: Retcon the CU Ah, I see what you're saying. Honestly, Abberant makes much more sense when you realize that WW was going for "What do you do when you're a god on earth" and less "You're a superhuman, what do you do." Honestly, not that upset with anything in the CU... well, except the nastiness of some of the villians. Menton and Telios are getting very mellowed down from what's written in the book. And there's a few others that also make me look and go "Um, if my total CvK character is supposed to kill, that would be a good reason..." Note, not Black Paladin or some of the other supernatural baddies, but the supervillians.
  21. Re: Sharing the Campaign ideas you can't use... yet This is one I've been mulling over for a while, given my groups habit of making alternate worlds, and the blast I have running them. "Everybody knows about alternate worlds, especially recently with the introduction of superheros from them. However, not everyone knows there are people who can consiously cross into them, sometimes just mentally, sometimes physically. You are those people, and you've been hired by Janus Gateway corperation. Using experimental techniques, they've managed to unlock some of the worlds... but they need you to explore them and find out more. Of course, the process isn't always perfect..." A game where the whole point is exploring alternate realities to their own. Sometimes in their own bodies, sometimes in the bodies of their own alternate self. It basically lets them tinker, me tinker and do crazy stuff like change power sets completely at one time or another. Oh, and what does Janus Gateway sell? *smiles* That's to find out in game.
  22. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel (Inspired by rats in the walls) It's rather background at first, the noise from your next door neighbors. A few low murmers, occasional grunts. Sure, you've seen them walk out sometimes before it, but maybe they left a tv on. And it's too... soft to complain. Of course, it also never stops. Waking up at two in the morning, you can hear it still... though it's more like low words, spoken slowly, and the rythems seem off.... just enough to make you pull the covers over your head and go back to sleep. On the other hand, if you put your ears to the wall, you think you can understand the words... but that would be a bad idea.
  23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
  24. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... In a game a while back(Vampire system, Abberant character, it was a cross worlds), the character decided to go after a kidnapped victim dressed as "Bankerman", with his flight, speed, and indestructable briefcase. Anyway, given the world...one of the NPCs thinks he's a Malkavian... leading to this scene. "Ok, as you're coming up to the door you think she's in, you get hit over the back of the head." "Does it do damage?" "Nope, but she says "You know you're supposed to fall down now."" "Huh?" "If I hit you over the back of the head, it's lights out. It's in the rules." "Nooo." Puzzled expression on the players face. "Of course it is. When the villian hits the hero over the back of the head, they pass out, to be tied up and then wake up later to be free." "No." "Oh, come on, even superman does it." "Just... that makes no sense, no." "Hey, it's in the heros and adventures handbook." "Well.... Why am I arguing with you? No." Then proceeds to move on, though the delay gave time for another warrior team to move in.
