  1. Hrm. Interesting. I don't like that solution for this particular scenario, but I could see building defenses that had the limitation "Permeable" that treated a particular attack as penetrating. Like elemental armor that is made for fire (extra ED for Fire SFX), regular ED for all other effects, except "Permeable" to Cold SFX. Sticking that in the toolbox for later. - E
  2. I am modeling a complication for a Vancian magic campaign. The background is that the person / group with the complication cannot get the full benefit from healing and may get no benefit at all from healing. I want it to be variable, so that it will give a small amount at least sometimes. And for a large enough heal, it may exceed the complication and heal a modest amount. My initial thought here is a susceptibility, but I don't want healing to actually kill or worsen the condition of the target. I could build it as a physical limitation that grants power defense versus healing, but it is fixed and seems a bit wonky. Any other ideas out there? - E
  3. That exists, but I was not sure if that met the requirement of the OP for "binding it through an active ritual". - E
  4. In some cases I would agree. The way they have constructed it in 5e is different in quite a few ways. You can read the basic players guide online I believe. 5e also attempted to give each class some unique spells. The spell systems are not different, probably more like colleges. - E
  5. Surprisingly, 5e D&D has no less than 4 different magic systems in it. Wizardry, Divine, Sorcery and Pact-based (Warlocks). That is without even counting the distinctions between druids, clerics, paladins, and rangers. Or the various "sources" of sorcery. Or the other college type specializations on both sides. If you want to look at a conversion of those into Hero 6e you can take a look at my stab at it. It is only through the system basics, classes and first level spells / feats / invocations. They are over on Killer Shrikes site, where you can find several other magic system representations as well (in 5th Edition parlance, but the conversion is not bad either way). http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/Contributions/eepjr24/Default.aspx - E
  6. Your English is much better than me in any other language. =) The concern you raise here is not uncommon and not limited to Heroic level or Fantasy Hero. Much of the work with a gaming toolkit is in establishing how your campaign or world works. There are other "setting" books like Narosia that can help further with this, but in the end the decisions are the GM's. - E
  7. I allow chain based weapons to use grab, disarm and fall based maneuvers with martial arts that they have a WE for in heroic settings. In supers I recommend either TK, Stretching (perhaps through a focus) or entangle, depending on the exact effect you are looking for. - E
  8. Ah, 5th edition only, don't own that one. Have a lot before 5 and a lot after, did not do much in 5e.
  9. Adding a few more references for anyone else who hits the thread: A World Unseen The Borrowers Honey I shrunk the kids Horton Hears a Who Nor Iron Bars The Rescuers Schild's Ladder Thematically, it would be probably most common in super hero land with the trope of the "shrink ray", although there are certainly methods in science fiction and fantasy to name a couple. - E

  11. I could see allowing particularly good rolls to have additional effect as a "one off" type of affair. Especially if it fits the moment and that type of thing. Player rolls to hit and makes it by half, I have them reroll any 1's on the dice because it was well thought out, etc.
  12. I probably should have picked the Lilliputians, it is a better known example. But you could just as easily use Beverly Cleary's mouse Ralph or the Secret of Nimh or Fantastic Voyage.... the list goes on. - E
  13. A creature in a set of young adult novels from the late 70's that addressed class warfare and inequality in a way that children can relate with. Pretty grim stuff for the times, set in London, though a rather gritty, rough and tumble version that represented how the underclass saw the world. - E
  14. Just remember the -2 to the roll for 20 AP. - E
  15. I don't think I even want to know what that is a unified power with. lol - E
  16. And lastly, if you are looking for full color prints and can find 9 others to go in with you, check out DocuCopies (https://www.docucopies.com/order/PERFECT-BOUND-BOOKS/). At 10 copies you can get 6e, Volume 1 for $66 a copy. - E
  17. The first comment sounds a lot like complaining to me? There are ways to get a hardbound copy, just not at a price point you like. And I agree, there are lots of barriers. I think considering the barriers, they are doing awesome to still be in business. That, to me, speaks volumes about whether they know how to do things correctly. - E
  18. I think I shall dub it Hero Nonpariel. It will cover the worlds of minute heros who co-exist with creatures (humans and otherwise) from 12 to 1,000 times their size. It will rely heavily on section 10 to toolkit sizes, speeds and other equivalencies in the human world. - E
  19. Guys (edit: AND Gals, sorry), I agree that getting the 6e1 and 6e2 out there for $75-100 a piece for a hardback with color pages would be GREAT! But there is this thing called economics that is preventing it. You don't think DOJ wants to make money and that they would not jump on the opportunity if they could find a way to print the book for that and still make a reasonable profit? Try running your own business for a while. It's a bitch. Everything costs more than anticipated, takes longer, has problems that take more time or more money (or both) to solve. If one of you is really serious about getting it out there and want to put a million or so of venture capital behind your idea, I strongly suggest you contact them. It will be much more effective than complaining on their forums when they have already explained in detail why it currently will not happen. - E
  20. Cool, then buy it on Amazon. But we already proved above that the book WITHOUT the PDF would cost around 150 for DOJ to print, so wish all you want but it will not be $90 with the PDF. And if you read what I printed above, it was $71 for a good quality print (not 20 lb), double sided and BOUND with a clear cover and vinyl back cover. Also, that was not shopping for best price, just what was likely available to everyone. - E
  21. So you think they would RATHER pay $150 than $111 and not get the PDF??? - E
  22. Other things that are tied to the real world are BODY, PD and ED (6e2 171), Movement speed, Vehicle sizes, Base Sizes, and Area of Effect sizes off the top of my head. While all of these can be dealt with in some way, shape or form with house rules, rescaling the granularity of measure for mass/density or length, etc. they are not handled well with existing RAW or optional rules. I am NOT a Hero hater. It is my favorite system, by far, and has been since the early 90's. But when people say it handles anything without house rules, I just don't see it. I have run into things it handles poorly, though they are few and far between. For the most part, it handles things that other systems struggle with as well, like "The Net" in CyberPunk games. But I said my piece, everyone is going to make up their own minds and decide whether any of this is relevant for themselves in any case. =) - E

  24. None of them are "Out of Print" according to the publishing world. They are still available in PDF and under contract. - E
  25. You can print it at the UPS store, double sided, black and white 28lb (heavy duty) paper, with clear cover and vinyl back bound for $71. Did you see the bit above where Tasha figured out it would run $150 ish if Hero did it? If that is your preference: http://www.amazon.com/Hero-System-6th-Character-Creation/dp/1583661204 This was not the cheapest I found, but I figured UPS is pretty universally available. You can actually find cheaper online and have it mailed to you. - E
