While there, in 1883, she became involved with the 'King of Bohemia'1, who treated her badly ("cruelly wronged," in her own words). Sometime after their relationship ended she moved to London; it might be surmised that in the five years between the ending of her relationship with the King of Bohemia and her move to London she was involved in some notorious activities, for she is in Holmes' files and is referred to by His Highness Wilhelm von Ormstein as "the well-known adventuress." In 1888, Sherlock Holmes was retained to retrieve some incriminating evidence in her possession; at that time her address was Briony Lodge, Serpentine Avenue, St. John's Wood, London. But Reid managed to crawl to safety near a water hole, where he was found and nursed back to health by a friendly Indian Reid had once helped. This young Ranger, with his Indian companion, sought to avenge the deaths of his comrades. Avenge they did, cornering the outlaw Butch Cavendish in a dramatic battle. Reid buried his past at the graves of the five dead Rangers, and set out to avenge wrongs throughout the Old West. In his younger, more active days, Reid subsisted on the income from a silver mine that he and his brother--who was one of the deceased Rangers--had discovered. Periodically he returned to the mine, which was run for him by an honest old man, to collect the proceeds and stock up on silver bullets. Now, as age is beginning to make is former lifesyle more difficult, Reid has also found that there is less need for him in the American west and has partially retired from hispast pursuits. 8. Just 'cause I'm bored I thought I'd post a group of character that I put together for a series of convention games. A note about demographics. I typically run convention for six players - but there are 9 characters here. This is because I plan (in vain most of the time) for the party to be one-half female so I create three female characters (and let me tell you, for this group, coming up with three female characters was an interesting bit of research). Convention reality being what it is though, I always create enough male character to fill the entire party with males if need be. p.s. Kudos to Killer Shrike for the way cool Hero Designer export template.
  9. Re: Terran Empires - FF + Body armor? If the cummulative affect bothers you, starting arming the bad guys with Force Field disrupters.
  10. Re: Need feedback on house rules for my new campaign The last time I played a half-giant in Fantasy Hero he had a STR of 35 and was a pacifist (had to make a EGO roll just to enter combat - fun character).
  11. Re: Balance issues My games haven't really seen a power increase - 60 active is still the normal top end. What they have seen is a lot less jumping through hoops to make the powers fit into 250 points. Fewer "questionable" limitations, less reliance on frameworks. Also, a general increase in non-combat abilities (skills, perks, talents, etc, etc).
  12. Re: Limiting new players (balance ques.) This wasn't a rule book quote, merely a personal observation of what makes up a balanced set of powers.
  13. Re: Where is da links? http://www.herostuff.net/webdir I won't claim it's the best (and I've not been as diligent as I would like about removing dead links) but I do continue to add new ones all the time.
  14. Re: Limiting new players (balance ques.) If you're willing to run a social experiement, just let them build what they want, hit them with a group of well balanced villains who work as a team, and let the game balance smack the players in the head. There are are kind of three rough categories of powers that a super hero needs: Offense, Defense, and Movement. If someone spends an excesive number of points on one of them, one or both of the other suffer. So, your player that you think will buy a large FF + Damage Reduction + Armor probably won't have a lot points left for offense and movement - which has a good chance of making him kind of useless in a fight. If you do this though, the one thing you do need to do is pay very careful attention to the potential abuse of power constructs and meaningless limitations (a couple of juicy limitations that don't actually get in the character's way can give him enough points to overcome "I spent to many points one one aspect" problem. Remember, a limitation that doesn't limit isn't worth anything. Then, after you soundly trounce the heroes, give the players a chance to build reasonable, well-balance heroes for the next game.
  15. Re: Review my campaign guidelines Why? Do you really care if a player decides that they can work with less than 350 points? (Personally, I frequently work with fewer disads than is expected for teh point level of game, just because I'm willing to have a character built on a few less point for the freedom of fewer disads).

  17. Re: FYI: why more people aren't playing HERO (rpg.net) [rant] Pet peeve. I really hate statements like this - particularly in a demographic (gamers) that generally consider themselves of above average intelligence. At what point in our society's history did simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division come to require a strong grasp of arithmetic? The math involved in Hero character creation is stuff I learned when I was 9 - my 10-year old son has already learned it. There is a difference between a lot of arithmetic and hard arithmetic. Hero character creation (well, really, mostly Champions character creation) can involve a lot of arithmetic - but it does not involve difficult arithmetic. Everytime a non-Hero player hear's someone complain about the "high-level" math involved in character creation that gamer promptly categorizes Hero has "one of those games they won't ven try" - and that's real shame. 18. Re: FYI: why more people aren't playing HERO (rpg.net) I think I'd file this one under Dust Raven's "Lazy" category. Of course, these are also the same people who will tell you that Hero is full of complicated and difficult math. Personally, I've never had to do any math beyond what I learned in elementary school (add, subtract, multiply, & divide) - I have a hard time thinking of this as complicated or hard (its small numbers - I do it my head)
  19. Re: FYI: why more people aren't playing HERO (rpg.net) Kind of depends on how you count books. I count it as 4 books vs 5. (I am uof the opinion that anyone who can put together a D&D campaign without one of the campaign setting books could also put together a Fantasy Hero campaign with one - so I would either put them into both lists or put them in neither list). D&D Players Handbook Dungeon Masters Handbook Monster Manual Setting Book (Forgotten Realms, Ebberon, Dragonlance, etc, etc - even Greyhawk has the Gazeteer book) Hero Hero System Rule Book Fantasy Hero The Fantasy Hero Grimoire Beatiary Setting Book (Turakian Age or Valdorian Age) From my prespective, the biggest difference is the need to buy a separate book for spells (The Fantasy Hero Grimoire) - but it's cheap book. I think if someone wanted a more favorable comparison with D&D (insofar as teh number fo books you must buy) they would need to include in the setting book enough spells to constitute a viable magic system. Personally, since you have the rules for making spells (ie. the Hero System Rule Book), I don't think it's that big a deal - but a Hero System neophyte might.

You'll have to resize, but that the easy part. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ph35_gallery/PHB35_PG27_WEB.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/pgtf_gallery/78828.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83269.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/rof_gallery/49709.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/rof_gallery/49711.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83270.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83271.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83272.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83273.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83297.jpg http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ros_gallery/83303.jpg
  21. Re: Effective Concepts Your GM WON'T Allow. I actually played with someone who ran a character similar to this. Called Tiger (we called him Paper Tiger) his only real power was a mosterous amount of PRE bought through a focus (a big honkin' gun). He'd show up, point the gun at someone, demand that he surrender, and PRE attack the poor twit. Later, he spent some experience to make the gun a Multipower with the second slot being a humungous RKA usuable once. Then he'd show up, point the gun at something, blow it to kingdom come, then point the gun at someone, demand that he surrender, and then PRE attack the poor twit (thereby getting the bonus for just having performed an incredibly violent action). As a rarely used character it was cute and amusing. If it had been used frequently it would have been a nuisance.
