  1. Re: I am so, so old... Good luck with the next generation, Champions deserves more followers. Given that a youngling like myself (a minority on the hero boards it seems) is stealing your idea for a game ill bet they will enjoy it. On that note what if an npc character mysteriously retained his memories and acts as a kind of mentor to the new players- of course if it was me running a plot like that he would later turn out to be one of the bad guys from the future and the pc's have been working counter to their true cause. When they find out will they be able to right all the wrongs they have unwittingly done before it is too late? Aside from that this thread brings new meaning to the term senior member, and now ill run as iam outnumbered
  2. Re: WWYCD: King Arthur is back Donn: Arthurs back? Finally! About time he set these silly humans in order. Now maybe i can find an alternative to killing Morgana... Lu-Tze (deceased but still alive): Again? Oh wait, wrong timeline. Which Arthur are we talking about?
  3. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Double take, spotted the Jap funny first and a quote from an OL game i am in that runs OTT's with some of the younger players with less exposure to rp'ing "You think youve got problems? My players gave priority to looting the corpses of the fallen while teamates lay bleeding in the mud..." The above resulted in a pc bleeding to death and some awkward in character conversations when they realized what they had done that are probably worthy of quoting if i can get hold of them.
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Too initially incomprehensible
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... ....um.
  6. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. More wierd is as always welcome. Then again with my favourite Storn pic. being Col Blinky perhaps iam not with the mainstream on that. Nice artwork as always
  7. Re: When Do Your Characters Know When The S**T Has Well And Truly Hit The Fan? ....I assume the above wasnt the reality of the situation? Far worse, what if the above had succeded? The mindbending experience that would qualify for all the characters involved would really be a case of it hitting the fan.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... In a living campaign (D&D), the scenario was called 'Hunt the happy hooker' "I never knew you had a thing for Halflings..." Dm: "You know killing an unarmed man like that might have reprecusions?" Player 1: "Yep." *Player 1 tosses a dagger to Player 2* Player 1 "Here, stick that next to the body." Player 2 "Why...? Oh! Clever." Player 1 *quietly* "Uhuh, now its got your fingerprints all over it." "The murder left his buisnes card?" "I have the crayfish search for it"
  9. Re: When Do Your Characters Know When The S**T Has Well And Truly Hit The Fan? When players start wondering whether placing Thanos in hotsleep was a bad idea- just look at what turned up in his abscence! When the GM announces that China is airbursting nukes above its own cities in order to take out alien invaders. In a moment of introspection you realize that, all in all, you work more with Destroyer than against him....and you think you are doing the right thing.
  10. Re: Why you shouldn't play Champions while Intoxicated 24. Hitting someone with Fred does serious damage.
  11. Re: Why you shouldn't play Champions while Intoxicated 23. When someone staggers into breakables or makes a mess of the carpet its a nuisance. When Doctor Destroyer and alcohol mix the consequences tend to be tragic.
  12. Re: Why you shouldn't play Champions while Intoxicated Just make sure the Gm is worse off than you are. Then the collateral damage and whatever happens is his fault. ...sort of.
  13. Re: Munchkin Build Contest? I profess to something of a kindness for abusing duplication, seeing the 'unkindness of ravens' points to some paralell evoloution occuring amongst muchkin kind- at the risk of offending anyone, if youre looking at this thread you are either a paranoid gm or indulging in the inner munchkin. Its all good... My favourite, which has probably been done to death already: The 'living' metal flying brick character able to separate into 64 spheres of metal each with flight, move through is your friend- doubly so if you are dropped from orbit. I never had the courage to put that monstrosity forwards as a character. Gravity manipulation: 1'' Flight, Usuable against others as an attack (and probably and illegal build), enough said on that. The Clone Wars: Cosmetic transform, person into likeness/appearance of another person. Continuous, 0 end, persistent and sticky. I reckon this is a potential game stopper. Irish: 1d6 luck, usuable by others. Understated power. Buried Alive: Tunnelling, usuable against others as an attack. How many heroes in your game can dig through concrete? Add area effect if you want the gm to hate you. The Sweat Shop: Followers, just basic humans but with huge multipliers, psych lim of 'total loyalty', one variable skill (brew beer or somesuch) and life support no eat/sleep. World wide economic meltdown. Reset Button: Change Enviroment; Increase Entropy. 0 end, persistent. Knowledge of the Laws of Thermodynamics optional. On a character with time travel (destination shortly after big bang and full life support.) Any application of drain con. Teleport. Controversial? Anyone remember the spoof characters in the back of 4th ed? I seem to remember there was a guy there that could shrink planets to marble size and throw them at people...shrinking turns off, splat. Ive heard of D&D players getting inventive with the 'Persistent' Spell advantage. Madness like infinitely and exponentially replicating light spells rendering the universe very, very bright and sparkly. Maybe one day ill make a character with ever power in this thread....in a vpp.
  14. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! Shameless Bump
  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... For context, a campaign that has been running for nearly six years is nearing a climatic end that may well result in the destruction of the Earth. The storyline has been run before and players from the last iteration are involved in the current run, some 13 players are at the table and one of the Pc's is directly behind the probable cause of Earths destruction, death by alien starships. "Maybe defeating Thanos wasnt such a good idea, look what popped up i his place..." "...You used Galactus as an Npc?" Player 1 "Lets use the G.F.O.O.D. machine on it" Player 2 "What?" Player 1 "Get The **** Out Our Dimension." Gm- "The ships have been firing on every nuclear reactor in France, the whole country is an iradiated wasteland and the Eifel tower has melted." Player- "....Good?" Gemeni of the Zodiac to a player responsible for the above situation- "We would bargain for the planet. Leave us a planet to rule and we will hold it in an Iron Fist for The Damoran Empire!" Gm- "China has been airbursting nukes over thier citys trying to hit the alien craft..." Player- "Post-Apocalyptic Champions anyone?"
  16. Re: The artwork drives me nuts 'cause he is a M&M fan? Meh, i guess ill just have to commision him at some point...
  17. Re: The artwork drives me nuts Okay, just to establish the context of what ive said and am going to say- i love herosystem/champions, there is no roleplaying rules system i would rather use for any setting i could imagine. Its been touched on that for those who dont know the Herosystem/Champions well that sloppy art and presentation might well put off prospective first time buyers. Its certainly a problem ive noticed in trying to interest gamers at the younger end of the age bracket in herosystem products, though by no means exclusive to the younglings (say 12 to 15). For them, and i dont think this observation is exclusive to those i know, artwork and presentation is more important than it necesarily might be to older roleplayers that know a few systems- herosystem in general probably caters better to people who are established roleplayers (An opinion!) with its stat heavy system. Netherless i cant help feeling Herogames are missing out on something here, i hope someone takes note of whats being discussed...perhaps something for someone to bring up with S.Long? There are a lot of great products out there and iam happy to say i count herosystem as one of them, i hope it stays one of them:thumbup:
  18. Re: The artwork drives me nuts ^ By that measure what youre saying is that you dont really care either way what the artworks like if the rules system is good, then what about the pretty pictures contributing to the setting of a particular book? A description of appearance is one thing, nice artwork quite another. As a Gm its also nice to be able to show the players an eye catching little number. Now that iam thinking about it Storn has done stuff for Herogames in the past, oops . Ah well, it would still be nice to see more of his stuff there.
  19. Re: The artwork drives me nuts ....Storn? Unless ive simply missed out on his contributions, or he is too expensive for Herogames, i dont quite see how someone whos artwork is so prominent on the forums hasnt been headhunted as quite frankly artwork in Champions (and a lot of the hero range) seems to me to be rather poor fare. Herosystem products have a great rules system, now they should re-asess thier presentation... Just a thought, but one shared by a fair few i expect.
  20. Re: Signs your Champions GM is now (fill in the blank) Signs you champions Gm is me... 1. When you first submitted your character you were worried most of it would be thrown out for being too broken/overpowered....It came back at least twice as combat effective. 2. You are terrified of stairs. 3. Lifts are worse. 4. Paranoia starts to set in early. No-one is quite what they seem and everyone has an agenda. You certainly cant trust the other pc's... 5. You are probably playing a villains game, otherwise the setting is so dark you cant see the scary things trying to eat you- which bearing in mind your gm's imagination is a good thing. 6. Someone always makes a joke about nuclear hand grenades. (don't ask) 7.You discover early on that actions have consequences. 8. You can die. Permanently. 9. You never buy unluck as a disadvantage ever again.
  21. Re: Older Gamers, Older Characters? My age: 18 Rough average age of the last 5 pc's ive run: 50 ish. -discounting the thousand year old ancient mythology rip offs.
  22. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Damn....Ill have to catch another train, this just got derailed. Meh. Why am i complaining, its all good. Potter in a Portaloo anyone?
  23. Re: GMs: Funniest Character Sheet Mistakes You've Seen. Hmm. We once had a player who put 'crimping' on his sheet (Cramming). Still not sure what psychological state he was in when he wrote that.
  24. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... My GM losing his pateince with another player who was being slow. "pointy bits of metal, probably propelled by highly compacted explosive material, perhaps previously housed in a tube of metal, slam into the side of your truck" Player: What? The 5th ed book can do serious damage when applied to the back of someones head.
  25. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... "You cant say that, soliloquys are so people like Destroyer can tell you thier evil plans, how insignificant you are in the grand scheme of things AND shoot you in the head at the same time."
