  1. I like Solarman and Hyperion. If you're leaning towards Guardian, how about Guardian Angel? That could be a name given him by the press--someone he saves toalks to a reporter calling him his "guardian angel" and the paper runs with it. Hope that helps.
  2. I don't know as this is what you're looking for, but I always thought it was appropriate for a world where superpowers are real-- "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power”--Abraham Lincoln
  3. Here's some possibilities-- Skye--"Cute kid, but a know-nothing know-it-all. Hopefully, she'll learn." Ward--"Competent as all hell, but I wish he'd take that ramrod out from up his behind." Stark--"How does anyone spend more than ten minutes with him and not want very badly to punch his face?" Thor--"Haven't met him. Sounds like he does all his thinking with his hammer." Hand--"I've heard rumors that she smiles, but I don't believe them." Garrett--"Heard all the stories, and Coulson vouches for him. He's good." Hope that helps.

    Riot Car

From the 1930s via the Modern Mechanix Blog, this is some guy's--specifically, Victorino L. Tunaya of Brooklyn NY--idea of riot control: Here it is as depicted on the cover--just as it does today, size matters: Although I don't know as two to five people could be considered a riot, but hey--the department spent the money on the thing, might as well get some use from it.
  5. A lot of the villains named were with the game from the very beginning. Armadillo, Bluejay, Brick, Cheshire Cat, Dragonfly, Green Dragon, Howler, Icicle, Mechanon, Ogre, Pulsar, Shrinker and VIPER are in the campaign book for the Champions boxed set. Doctor Destroyer was the villain in the first published adventure The Island Of Doctor Destroyer. Foxbat first appeared in Enemies II and later had his own column in Adventurers' Club, the official HERO PnP magazine. I would say this qualifies them for iconic status, at least as far as the Champions RPG is concerned. This is characteristic of most superhero universes that are created from the ground up. If you remember the Milestone universe they had Icon (Superman), Static (Spider-Man but with electrical powers), Hardware (Batman but more tech-oriented) and the Blood Syndicate (X-Men, Teen Titans, etc.). In Kurt Busiek's Astro City you have Samaritan (Post-Crisis John Byrne Superman) Supersonic (Silver Age Superman) Leopardman and Kitkat (Silver Age Batman and Robin) the Confessor and Altar Boy (O'Neill/Adams Batman and Robin) the First Family (Fantastic Four), Winged Victory (Wonder Woman), the Hanged Man (the Spectre) and many more. I recall Steve Long saying something to the effect that players like to pit their characters against villains similiar to what can be found in the comics, which is why he introduced the Black Harlequin in the 5th Edition Conquerors, Killers & Crooks. (Three guesses as to who inspired that villain, and the first two don't count.) Mechanon, on the other hand, if you keep his original concept in mind (he was meant to be a guard for a superhero team's base, but Something Went Wrong), then he can be seen as not so much a case of "swiping from the comics" as "the Gamemaster messing with his players again"-- : "Okay, we want to build a superpowered AI robot to guard our base for us while we're away. Can we do that?" : "Suurrrre you can! Go right ahead! It'll be FUN! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA! : "I don't mind the laughter--but does he have to shine the flashlight in his face like that?"
  6. That works, if your campaign is on the theme of Futurama or something just as fun. I like how the center territory on the map acronyms out. I can see their starship captains introducing themselves-- "We represent--DANG!"
  7. "Look Into My Eyes--You Wish To Serve Me--You Wish To Obey. . .Obey. . .Obey. . ."
  8. I would call him--The Infinite One. The way I figure it, his powers very likely include immortality, manifested as his decreased rate of aging, and his other powers are very likely to increase as his life goes on. Who knows how powerful he may become as the centuries pass? Actually, he might. He may have figured out how he became as powerful as he is, and he may have even figured out how to leap ahead a few centuries to realize his full potential--to become truly Infinite. This would require some very rare magic artifacts or some unique technology that he would have to acquire through means fair or foul, which would bring him to the attention of the PC heroes. Hope that helps.
  9. I liked the 1990s series. Green Hornet and Green Lantern too. There! I said it!
  10. They officially have my attention.
  11. Could you do the same thing with duct tape? Because duct tape has many, many more uses than an elastic bandage. Granted, there are more uses for an elastic bandage than wrapping an ankle; it's just that duct tape has more uses.
  12. "Look Into My Eyes--You Wish To Serve Me--You Wish To Obey. . .Obey. . .Obey. . ."
  13. While tanks with flame throwers are a part of real-life warfare, never were they as nightmarishly impressive as this. Hugo Gernsback comes through again-- Although this was created in the pulp era, I figure just slap some swastika decals on it and stick the Red Skull in the cockpit and you're ready for the Golden Age. There it is for anyone who's interested.
  14. N-Guns (aka Niceness Guns) (From the Bewitched episode Samantha's Secret Saucer) Used by the canine-like people of the planet Parenthia, the N-Gun is quite possibly the least lethal weapon ever invented. It discharges a beam of coherent energy resembling a shower of sparks, which stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain to induce a state of extreme euphoria in the target, rendering it incapable of committing a hostile action or even thinking a hostile thought. 18pts N-Gun (aka Niceness Gun): Mind Control 12D6 (60 Active Points) Only To Control/Inflict Extreme Friendliness (-1) 16 Charges (-0) Real Weapon (-1/4) OAF (-1) This video demonstrates the N-Gun in action--the scene is at 2:30-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wycRZwD0_4I
  15. You're talking about Yaya Han, right? Because she has her own TV show-- Heroes Of Cosplay There are other cosplayers on the show, but it's made clear that she's the star, and in the first season only one of the other cosplayers was male; the rest were female. Doesn't get more celebratory than that, I think. It's supposed to return for a second season this year; maybe some cosplayers here might want to get in on it. Any takers?
  16. I'm thinking that "Khan" should be in his name somewhere--he reminds me a bit of Shiwan Khan from The Shadow movie with Alec Baldwin. And like in that movie his subordinates should call him "my Khan" when addressing him or receiving their orders, i.e. "As you command, my Khan." Possible names-- Gorgon Khan Chou-Zhan Khan Tatsujin Khan Fu-Zhan Khan Vhau-Jongg Khan These were chosen because they sound good, not for my command of the Chinese language. Perhaps someone who understands Chinese can come up with something better. Hope that helps.
  17. Wouldn't that make it easier for a nation opposed to the villains to declare war on them, though? That's what I'd do if I were President and Mr. Villain raised up his own Mr. Villain Island--inform Congress of the impending threat and send in the Marines and everything else.
  18. I was thinking Captain Cosmic would be appropriate for this character. Play up the outer space aspect of his origin, give him a spacesuit for his "costume" with a built-in rocket pack and laser weapon. (I know what you're thinking--but I submit there is no character representative of Silver Age space adventure than he.) I would call him VOLTHAK The Magnificent--and yes, his name is always spelled out in bold caps. Very Kirby-esque in appearance, always speaks at full volume, loves to taunt his foes, loves to be the first one into battle and to celebrate when the battle is done. Fiercely loyal to his friends and teammates, he would rather die than abandon them or surrender to the enemy. Hope that helps.
  19. Saw this blog post I found while searching for something else and thought I'd pass it along. While it's intended for police work, it definitely looks like something a mad scientist would bulid. And if you're wondering who in blazes would have thought this up--just check the name of the author.
  20. Then how about fan letters? Requests for autographs (so the fan can cash in after the contestant gets killed) helpful advice (that really isn't) requests for the contestant to kill another contestant (he bet heavily on the other contestant's demise, and promises to split the winnings with the first contestant) and humble requests that if the contestant wins, could he please pay off the writer's credit card bill? Some of them can be sincere wishes for success, but most of them are intended to make it quite clear to the contestant that his--and the show's--fan base is full of idiots. Hope that helps.
