  7. "Hmmm....clearly the primate "Cornelius" must die. In the meantime, kill this "Keith Curtis" primate to make sure the equipment still works. Then, advance the "Master Plan" by 2 weeks; Im planning to wrap the conquest of this dimension up early. Now, away, for I must prepare myself for the obligatory Evil Laugh !" Mwahahahaha "Oh...wait...thats right, Im not really evil, Im just avariscious on a pancosmic scale; my people are happy and have excellent state-provided medical plans at affordable premiums...much like Canada of Earth 613... Whats a pangalactic conquering girl to do? I suppose Ill have to settle for an 'Engimatic Chuckle' instead......." --Istvatha V'han, in the process of overrunning the Planet of the Apes........
  8. Wow. All these unfettered accolades...damn! That means my karmic debt is growing! At this rate, Ill soon experience a terrible catastrophe to balance the scales! No one stand too close! Seriously, thanx. Blue's starting thread actually struck me as a neat concept, and Im only half-kidding about Mr. Roboto.
  9. The same character is an actor in bad B-Movies and TV shows in the superhero genre in his civilian ID, a career he started before his powers catalyzed. Hes got this big 4 color Minuteman! voice, all the time, from years of voice acting, and he's also NOT. TO. BRIGHT. He's also somehting of a superhero buff, and likes to rattle of obscure trivia apropos of nothing. In a recent session his agent called him with a new movie deal, Super Weapon V, wherein he would play the main Villain. One catch, Principal Photography is in NYC, but there are 2 weeks of filming scheduled in Zimbabwe. Gravitic (in his civie ID): "Hmm. I prefer to play the Hero. Im the heroic type, you know!" Agent: Look, the Academy is favoring leading bad guys lately. Look at Denzel; does a bad guy, gets Best Actor. Whaddayagonnado? G: Hmmmm. Good point. An Oscar would look good on my mantle. Ill do it!.....but no Zimbabwe. Ill do NYC, but no Africa! Agent: You gotta do the location shoot. Thats the thing these days. If it aint filmed in Prague, New Zealand, or somewhere near Tunisia, it aint in! G: NO AFRICA! Agent: Aw come on, yer killin me here; I coulda called anybody who would die for this role, and who do I call first but you? G: "Look, man, I was the PATRIOT MISSILE! And if they want the PATRIOT MISSILE, then NO Zimbabwe! The PATRIOT MISSILE does not do deserted wastelands! You tell them that! Now good bye." --CLIK
  10. Forgot about this one. In yesterdays session the PCs had a small press conference, thier first, and the media asks Gravitic, the Grandmaster of Graviolis what the source of his superhuman powers are. In his typical 4-color voice, Gravitic answers, "Why, my super HUMANITY, of course!"
  11. Ah, I see. Well, all I can say in my defense is that my good sense filters prevented me from ever liking STYX. And thank gawd for that, because thats like Battery Acid injected directly into the frontcipital lobe. {Killer Shrike reflexively does 'The Robot' as Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto runs through his head} GAH! See? Its contagious!!!!! I.....CANT.........STOP!
  12. Oops...should have bought the Resource Kit instead -- C: NM is an artifact of previous paradigm. In fact IIRC, the '5th ed' compatibility of that product was founded on a different intended '5th ed' -- one that never materialized. Read Chapter 7 of the big black 5th edition rules I hope you have; its the final chapter before the Index and is comprised of 3 pages only. It gives a fairly succint history of the HERO legacy including the near fatal lapse into obscurity from which Steve Long and the DOJ saved it....
  13. Re: Re: Domo Arigato Mr Roboto ENYA is a kind and enlightened alien being, and I refuse to participate in your ignorant attempts to discredit her "beautiful haunting melodies". Now, I must return to Painting the Sky with Stars......
  14. Check it out; found this on the net. [Edit} Nope, board wont let me load it. Apparantly Ben installed the 'Good Taste Filter' -- so no STYX for you!
  15. Domo Arigato Mr Roboto Hehe. This post has inspired me. Anyone remember the crappy old 80's song Mr. Roboto? Oh yes. There will be a Mr. Roboto. That's right. With parts made in Japan its Mr. Roboto Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto! My evil plan to create the cheesiest character these boards have ever seen will soon grow into fruition. Will the heroes be able to withstand the terrible kitch which is Mr. Roboto?
  16. Err....I meant Hank McCoy--sorry getting my super scientist former avengers confused......
  17. some names Ive had fun with in the past, either my own idea or those of my players (*): *Lance Dashing: Vain genetically engineered Super-Wrestler from an alternate dimension where the Media has gone mad (sort of a Mojo-verse in that respect, but not silly -- deadly serious; similar to Running Man); Medium Brick w/ some Martial Arts and a massive Presense & COM. Relentless: a regenerating martial artist NPC; in the 4th edition built as an automaton. Farad: an Electricity based uncontrolled Damage Shield character Javelin: flying light brick with visible Armor (bronzed skin). *The Logician: A strange character who was basically a wizard/mage in effect, but whose schtick was he altered reality by stating and enforcing "Irrefutible Constructs of Enforceable Logic". A Reality-bender with a Transform, Change Environment, and a VPP. Didnt work well in application (too inefficient points wise) but I always liked the concept/name.
  18. To me, Dr. Silverback screams 'Hank Pym'!!!! Im not impressed, but everyone else seems to be fascinated by the idea. Im not sure what people find so engaging about intelligent apes.
  19. FREd Page 58 1st column last para, 2nd column first para. Loose the points OR replace follower after long time/much roleplaying at the GMs option
  20. Dont discount it just yet, check it out: Incoming attacks are absorbed. The Force Field will protect vs absorbed attacks up to the amount absorbed. At first, the FF cant stop all of the damage that might be absorbed, but it can stop almost all of the AVERAGE absorbtion roll (avg absorbtion roll on 5d6 = 17.5). As damage is absorbed, the force screen gets 'warmed up', because the absorbed body gets fed into the FF as CHARACTER points. The FF should quickly reach peak strength, since it only takes 20 absorbed Body to get the FF up to 30/30, and 30 is the max you could possibly roll for a 5d6 Absorb. The rest of the FF boost will just serve to keep the field 'warmed up' for awhile. After 20 points are absorbed the FF is at peak efficiency, but the absorbs will continue to feed it another 30 points until the absorb equalizes at 50 points total absorbtion between the two absorbs. At this point the FF should be at 51 PD/ ED give or take a point; and the force screen gadget has reached terminal capacity; it cant absorb anymore until it has 'cooled off' -- because the absorb limit has been reached. Because the FF can only protect vs damage absorbed, the screen will offer no protection at all until it has 'cooled off'; ie some of the Absorbed points have bled off. As the Absorb FADEs off at 5 points/TURN (from each Absorb), the force screen "cools off" and is usable again as long as the Absorbs are able to keep absorbing damage. If a character were to take damage say in TURN 1, and hit peak charge in the middle of TURN 2, and then the fight was over, it would take between 5 Turns (1 minutes) to 10 Turns (2 minutes) for the Absorb to completely fade away ("cooling off") depending on whether the damage taken was all of one type or mixed (if the damage was all of one type (all Phys or all Energy), the excess will fade slower than if the damage were mixed). Either way, the FF will remain at or near maximum efficiency (at least 30 PD/ED; which matches the max possible roll on the Absorbtion dice) about 2/3 of this extra 'cool off' time. The RSR on the Absorbtions is opposed, and I defined it as not taking Active Point Penalties, and ONLY IN HTH. This is how a skilled opponent can 'get under the shield'; by succeeding at a DEX vs DEX roll against the wearer of the force screen. This represents manuever and slowly pushing the blade through the screen like in the old movie DUNE. You could make this opposed OCV rolls instead to make it rely more on skill than raw reflexes. Technically speaking, the RSR should apply all the time but even if you do apply it at range (perhaps the attacker deflects thier shots, or lines it up perfectly like the Beast Raban (sp) does in the DUNE movie vs Duncan Idaho), attackers will take range penalties, where as the user of the screen takes no penalties at all and should win the roll. To minimize this, you could add a few skill levels to the Compound Power limited to only resist Screen penetration at range (ie, only applying to the Absorbtion Opposed Skill Rolls vs Ranged Attacks). Big Attacks, particularly while the shield is getting "warmed up" can still blow through the screen, and autofire/rapid fire can 'overload' the screen by filling up the Absorbtion faster than the points can fade off, eventually rendering the screen useless for a while. As far as OAF is concerned, I have a problem with people buying Force Fields OAF; logically, the FF should prevent people from reaching inside of the FF to grab the item that generates it. Just a common sense application, YMMV. Personally, I wouldnt allow it as a GM because it doesnt make sense to me, and I wouldnt take it as a player, because I wouldnt want to risk someone grabbing my primary means of defense and taking it away from me in combat.
  21. Thats what we are here for; without the boards some of us might be left with nothing better to do but actual work
