  1. Re: Double The Hero Excitement! That was my main idea (I mean it could be used in FtF games if everyone had laptops, you just RP as normal, but when combat arose you used the program to help run the fight without worrying about all the math.) but for online games it would be fantastic, really speeding up combat, allowing the focus to go back to roleplaying and not spending weeks on fights. Also, a online program like this would allow people play online games that have a lot more detail and personal touches then traditional MMO's and help RPG's in general fight against the tide of online PC and platform games. I mean, a user friendly, combat friendly ON LINE rpg game would be a lot better then WoW in my opinion. And it might attract computer gamers who want more detail and control and attention the a GM run game would provide over a massive, generic, MMO's where there are a limited number of classes, fixed development, missions that everyone does, imbalanced classes, etc... Imagine if I were to start a game using something like this. I would pick a genre, post online for players and then once the characters are made (using HD) we could start playing. We roleplay as normal, but then when combat starts a hex grid is put into play with drag-and-drop scenery, the characters Icons are placed on the map, and then combat can begin, with each character moving his own icon, picking his actions, etc... with the program making sure everything is legal, telling you who phase it is, rolling the dice and calculating damage, effects, etc... while keeping track of STUN, BODY, END, and the like. It would make for quick(er) and more interesting combat then the usual way online games go, plus take out a lot of the math and calculations and record keeping that seem to scare away so many potential players.
  2. Re: Double The Hero Excitement! Well remember awhile back when Steve and Dave said we would have to wait to see what Hero's "answer" to D&D4 would be... well I think that this announcement will be it. I would love to see a super-expanded Hero Designer (maybe called Hero Campaign) that would allow not only the creation of characters, but include a system for running games online with such things as intergrated map makers, dice rollers, combat trackers, audio, real time voice communication between players and GM. Imagine such things as being able to look at the map and seeing where everyone is and then click on the icon of the target you want to attack, then picking the power you want to use from your sheet and then have the computer do all the match and rolling, etc... and applying the results directly onto the appropriate "sheets". Basically everything you need to run a full campaign over the computer. Or, put another way, a MMO, but a personal one, controlled by your GM, with only Players you want to be included in your game allowed. something like that would be cool.
  3. Re: ShadowrunHero game? This is where we differ. I've been playing Shadowrun 4 for the last couple of years and I started off enjoying the rules, but now I've gotten tired of them and their weakness are starting to annoy me. Rolling 18d6 to attack? No thanks. No hit locations? No thanks. Stats and skills that basically only go between 1-6? No thanks. Very limited skills descriptions? No thanks. Broken Magic system? No thanks. basically I find the Shadowrun 4 rules to generic and not gritty enough, or detailed enough, to run a "cyber game". I'm a big fan of "skill heavy" games and with the Ultimate Skill book out, that makes the Hero System tops in my book. Also the martial arts rules, hit locations, etc... all lend themselves to capturing the setting & feel much better then the actual Shadowrun rules. Now, that said, I can't drift to far away from the basic Shadowrun principles otherwise my players won't be happy (most of them are also long time Shadowrun players). So I am going to keep Cyberware, bioware, etc... based off of the Shadowrun books, no building your own. Also cyber, etc... will cost money, not CP's (especially since small, common pieces of cyber can end up costing a lot of CP's, while deadly & rare stuff can cost almost nothing). I will probably make being awakened a talent costing a certain number of CP's at chargen and then have spells cost a set number of cp's to learn after that. Money, at Chargen, will also cost a certain number of CP's and then after that it will have to be earned (no trading CP's for cash). This setup will allow us to mimic the shadowrun chargen system with Hero and keep the Shadowrun settings "balance" (which, to say, not very balanced)
  4. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Hey guys, sorry about the long time between posts. As Sweeper assumed it has been the work thing keeping me away, and unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will be getting any better any time soon. As an FYI, since I feel guilty about getting this thing going and then fading out of sight, I work in the film industry as a Story Coordinator and I am currently working on a big project. We were pretty much past the main story part of the film and my workload was slowing down, giving me plenty of time to be online and start up an online game (since I only get to play once a month normally). Unfortunately (for my gaming habbit (but good for the movie)) after the writer/director got some notes back from the producers they decided to re-work the script (well about 40% of it), meaning I'm suddenly back to where I was 3 months ago work wise and I now have very little free time to devote to the game. So, for now, the game will have to be on hold (unless someone else wants to jump in and GM it). Maybe in a couple of months when I get back to the point where I was a month ago, I will be able to start it up again. But until then I will be way to busy at work to run a game. Sorry. -joe
  5. Re: ShadowrunHero game? All of which is why I want to switch to the Hero System rule for the campaign.
  6. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Sorry to hear that Psybolt. Good luck with the other games you are running. For everyone else I hope to get time this weekend to finalize things and get a team selected.
  7. Re: ShadowrunHero game? That's the reason I want to switch the rules to Hero. It is really now just a question on how fair to change things with out loosing the "Shadowrun" feel of the game. This is made especially hard with my group since we have been playing Shadowrun on and off since first edition. So everyone knows how Shadowrun feels. But it has been awhile since we last played and I love the Hero System and I think using Hero will make the game a lot more enjoyable.
  8. Re: Combat, Aborting & Phases I think it all depends on what you Abort To. If you abort to Dodge then you are still considered Dodging until your next action (not phase), but if you Abort to Block then, yes, you are boned. At least that is my interpertation.
  9. Re: ShadowrunHero game? Yah, I never had a problem with giving the players too much money or for things getting out of hand that way. I mean, as a GM, you control what the players can and can't get access to. And it also keeps with the setting where Money = Power. If money didn't equal power then mages would be running the world, not megacorporations. Also, money and gear can be lost, stolen and broken and it is hard to walk into a 'corp with a panther canon hanging over your back.
  10. Re: ShadowrunHero game? Thanks, QM! SOme of that stuff kicks-ass, but I usually do my own conversions. This is more of the kind of info I need: Why is that Wyrm? In the normal Shadowrun game gunbunnies get to buy what they want with cash while the magical guys have to pay points for their powers. Wouldn't changing that change the dynamic of the game away from source material where money is a big form of power?
  11. has anyone played or GM'd a ShadowrunHero game? If so were their any big problems you ran into? Anything you would do differently this time through? My friends and I are big fans of the Shadowrun setting and have played it for years, but we all love the Hero System better, so now that we are starting up a new campaign I was thinking of Gming it and using the Hero System for the rules. So any advice would be appreciated.
  12. Re: Is the Hero the Ultimate System? Hero is pretty much the best system for me. My players would be a lot happier if there was a way of "prettying-up" the character sheets & power builds. I mean just look at this from a few posts up: 20 Disintegration: Killing Attack - Ranged 2d6+1, Does BODY (+1), Attack Versus Limited Defense (Power Defense; +1 1/2) (122 Active Points); 1 Charge (-2), Requires A Transmutation Roll (-1/2), Spell (Transmutation; -1/2), OIF Expendable (Easy to obtain new Focus; A lodestone and a pinch of dust. ; -1/2), No STUN (-1/2), Limited Range (Medium Range (25"); -1/4), Gestures (-1/4), Incantations (-1/4), Beam (-1/4) That's a hell of a lot of crunch for one spell. Now imagine putting 20 of those on a character sheet. Now if there was a nice, easy, way of condensing all of that, that would still get the important information across (and could be printed out on HeroDesigner). My Players would be a lot happier and so would I.
  13. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central PS... I doubt Area 51 will be around in my game, but there is a damn good chance that Area 49 might be. Now what horrible or catastrophic event happened to Area 49 and why the government had to build a new Area 50 (and years later Area 51) to replace it... well that might make for a good adventure.
  14. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Sorry for the delay guys, Things suddenly got crazy here at work on Friday, and when we got back yesterday nothing had changed. So it is going to be a busy week at work for me while we try and get everything back on track. So... I am going to keep submissions open for another week, just because I doubt I'll have a chance to work on the game until next weekend anyways, so I might as well give any late comers a chance to submit (or if anyone wants to submit a second idea (or more)). Again, sorry for the delay, but hopefully by next weekend everything will be back on track.
  15. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Ok, there a few more characters to floating in (those of you that PM'd me please send in the finalized/flushed out concepts as soon as you can). I'm going to start going over them and will probably have something worked out by the end of the weekend. At that time I'll let everyone know which characters have been picked and then we can start building them. Thanks
  16. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Go for it.
  17. Re: Songs that inspire(d) you to make a Champions Character Another Nick Cave song that's was the basis for a great Campaign: Tupelo Looka yonder! Looka yonder! Looka yonder! A big black cloud come! A big black cloud come! O comes to Tupelo. Comes to Tupelo Yonder on the horizon Yonder on the horizon Stopped at the mighty river Stopped at the mighty river and Sucked the damn thing dry Tupelo-o-o, O Tupelo In a valley hides a town called Tupelo Distant thunder rumble. Yeah Tupelo The Beast it cometh, Tupelo bound Why the hen won't lay no egg Can't get that cock to crow The nag is spooked and crazy O God help Tupelo! O God help Tupelo! O God help Tupelo! O God help Tupelo! Ya can say these streets are rivers Ya can call these rivers streets Ya can tell ya self ya dreaming buddy But no sleep runs this deep No! No sleep runs this deep No sleep runs this deep Women at their windows Rain crashing on the pane Writing in the frost Tupelos' shame. Tupelo's shame O God help Tupelo! O God help Tupelo! O go to sleep lil children The sandmans on his way O go to sleep lil children The sandmans in his way But the lil children know They listen to the beating of their blood listen to the beating of their blood listen to the beating of their blood listen to the beating of their blood They listen to the beating of their blood The sandman's mud! You will reap just what you sow
  18. Re: Songs that inspire(d) you to make a Champions Character Lot's of songs by "Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds" make for great characters. Like "The Red Right Hand" the lyrics basically tell the story of the character (obviously a bad guy) Take a little walk to the edge of town Go across the tracks Where the viaduct looms, like a bird of doom As it shifts and cracks Where secrets lie in the border fires, in the humming wires Hey man, you know you're never coming back Past the square, past the bridge, past the mills, past the stacks On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man In a dusty black coat with a red right hand He'll wrap you in his arms, tell you that you've been a good boy He'll rekindle all the dreams it took you a lifetime to destroy He'll reach deep into the hole, heal your shrinking soul Hey buddy, you know you're never ever coming back He's a god, he's a man, he's a ghost, he's a guru They're whispering his name through this disappearing land But hidden in his coat is a red right hand You ain't got no money? He'll get you some You ain't got no car? He'll get you one You ain't got no self-respect, you feel like an insect Well don't you worry buddy, cause here he comes Through the ghettos and the barrio and the bowery and the slum A shadow is cast wherever he stands Stacks of green paper in his red right hand You'll see him in your nightmares, you'll see him in your dreams He'll appear out of nowhere but he ain't what he seems You'll see him in your head, on the TV screen And hey buddy, I'm warning you to turn it off He's a ghost, he's a god, he's a man, he's a guru You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan Designed and directed by his red right hand He'll extend his hand, real slowly for a shake You'll see it coming toward you, real slowly for a shake (Grabbing at your peril buddy?) cause you know you ain't getting near much as he will take. He's a... He's mumbling words you can't understand He's mumbling word behind his red right hand.
  19. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central One more day guys. So any of you guys that mentioned that you might apply or have ideas please post or PM me and let me know before the end of tomorrow night. After I get all of the concepts in I'll work out what group will make the best team/give me the best story ideas and then we will move on to the character creation process.

  22. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Ah, mine is "how does the story fit the character?"

  25. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Hey guys, Keep the ideas coming. With the new interest I'll keep the app stage open until the 10th like planned. There is still no need to build your characters yet, since the final rules, point totals, etc... haven't been desided on yet. If you already have, that's fine, but you should be ready to change/redo them once the final team has been desided upon and the final guidelines are set. I can say that all regular gear (guns, et al.) will be "free" as in bought with money/resource points. Any special equipment (stuff that is "part of the character") should be bought with CP's (like a "Jet-Rocket backpack"; "Super fast car"; "Plutonian Atomic Death-Ray Gun" ; "BATerangs"; etc...) The rest of the guidelines will come later, but I will say that I am a BIG fan of the Heroic talents found in the main Pulp Book and in Dark Champions.
