  1. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Any more interested parties wanting to apply? I was going to keep accepting apps up until the 10th, but if no one else is interested I might wrap it up early. If you are interested, but don't have the time right now, just post saying so, so I'll know to wait. I'm in no rush here so I don't mind waiting, but if no other apps are coming in then we can move on with character creation.
  2. Re: Astounding Hero Tales Will there be a volume two?

Urban Fantasy Hero: 5, YES! ASAP Book of the Destroyer: 2 Ultimate Gadgeteer: 5, yes, when you get a chance Champions Beyond: 1, no thanks - I don't play outserspace champions
  4. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Well, as I mentioned earlier I am thinking around 200 point characters (125 + 75) maybe up to 250
  5. Re: Buying their souls Well, what do souls do? what are souls in your campaign? If they are just abstract things that demons trade and gather then they could just be a form of Netherworld Currency so a bonus to the Resources perk might be all you need. Where the Resources Perk (for Demons) is not $$'s but rather souls. They could also add to a Fringe Bennifit - Demon Status (the more souls they have the more status/influence they have in Demon circles). If, on the otherhand, the souls provide power then you have to figure out what type of power they provide. If it is just END for an END Reserve then maybe a number of points added to the Demon's reserve based on a percentage of the total Character Points the persons soul had at the time of death. Ex. a 500 point character's soul when collected might add 50 points to the Demons END Reserve. Or if the Demons has a VPP representing his/her Demon Powers, maybe a percentage of the Soul's total Character Points might add to the base points of the pool. This way the more souls the Demon collects the more powerful of a demon he becomes. That's just some ideas off the top of my head.
  6. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Again, I want this to be a campaign where we all have some input so whatever works out best for the players will be what we go with. I, for one, would like to have the posts happen fairly often. Once a day/5 times a week would be good for me, but I could do more (and, obviously, less)
  7. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central Hmmm... Well, It's low powered so I'd guess not more then 200, but again it all depends on the apps. That's why I want the character ideas submitted before we talk points.
  8. Re: New Pulp Hero Game on Hero Central I'm in no rush to get things started. I'd rather take time now getting good characters made, then rush into the game. So let's say a week or two for getting character ideas/BG's in? I guess it might depend on how many submissions are made, etc... but I have no problem giving people time to get ready and come up with ideas. Maybe by Jan.10th? We can play it by ear. Both of those ideas sound like cool starting concepts to me.
  9. Re: Brave New World It's a beautiful thing you are doing here, Enforcer84. It makes me want to track down and watch "Caught in the Act" again, but until I do I guess I'll just have to listen to the cd's.
  10. Re: What are "vitals" Yah, I consider "Vitals" to be a hit to any of the Groin, Liver, Kidney, Spleen, etc...
  11. Re: I'm Starting a new Hero Central Game Hey guys, The Polls are in and I've started an "application" thread for the campaign here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/show...96#post1498496 So anyone interested in playing please go there and send me a concept, BG. The game will be Low Powered Superheros in a Pulp setting (with some Star Hero and Urban Fantasy thrown in). Thanks
  12. Hi Everyone, After reviewing the results of a poll (or two) that I posted it looks like people would be interested in a Pulp Hero game (which is great because I love the genre), so I am now going to be looking for people interested in playing in the game. First off, the campaign is going to be A low powered Superhero Pulp game, meaning powers, abilities, etc... are fine (Think The Shadow, Doc Savage, John Carter, Jack Fool, mad scientists & mystics, or "Daredevil" like characters set in the 1930's). The game will involve "weird science" & evil "martians" or "Moonmen" out to steal our women, "strange cults" and "mystics" out to steal our women, nazis, etc... The main storylines will be based around the character that are accepted into the game and it is from them and thier backgrounds that most of the stories will flow (I hope). To that end, I am looking for submissions without character sheets for now. We can work on the character point totals for the campaign (and build the characters) once we have a cool team assembled. I'd feel bad getting people to build entire charcters and then not even get accepted into the game. So just send or post a brief outline/concept for your character, including enough detail to get a feel for him/her and what they are like, powers, etc... Capturing the spirit of the genre will be a big thing, not min-maxing, crunching, power gmainging, rules mongering, etc... I want the game to be good, silly, Pulp fun. PS. If someones submission really blows me away and gives me a bunch of new ideas, etc... then I might ask everyone else who is interested in playing to adjust their concepts (if needed) to fit this new direction. So, please post any questions, etc... along with any character ideas you might have. Thanks.
  13. Re: I'm Starting a new Hero Central Game The votes are in and Low Powered Super Hero won! Now I'm doing another poll to let people decide on a more exact setting. The poll is here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61768
  14. Re: I'm Starting a new Hero Central Game Sure, I'd have no problem with that. Whenever I'd get around to asking for Apps, a non-hero designer would be fine with me. (I'd just enter it in to designer for my own records and ease of access)
  15. Hi everyone, I'm planning on starting a new hero central game and I want it geared towards the characters in it. To that end I've started a poll (http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61697) to first see what genre people would most like to play. After the poll is finished, maybe early next week, I might start looking for apps or maybe do another poll to specify things even more. Anyways, once we know what genre/style the game will be and characters have been submitted I'll go over the submissions and find the characters that would best work together and who's background/concepts give me the best ideas/inspiration. At that point I will begin tailoring a campaign to fit those characters. So if you might be interested please feel free to take part in the poll(s).
  16. Re: "Sense Motive" In Hero Or you could build it as a form of telepathy, sort of a "super-skill". Add some limitations, like empathy only related to conversation/situation, etc...
  17. Re: Wild Card's Hero Ti Malice was actually teleported back in time and INTO Jay's own nightmares. So I guess that would qualify as projecting teleportation with extra-dimensional movement and time travel added in. I bet that will up the cost of the power.
  18. Re: Need advice on a writeup Well if it is just an NPC why write it up? Unless the falcons do something then it's not much of a power or a benefit. It's just something unusual about her. But if you really feel the need to write it up, maybe use a limited form of the talent Animal Friendship and a fringe benefit for the special certificate.
  19. Re: Max Human attributes in Street level vs full Superheroic scales Just jumping in late here with my thoughts. While I will agree that what is considered "human max" will very from game to game, Gm to Gm, etc... It would be nice to have an official declaration (or at a minimum a large group agreement) of what the maximum human stat is in the Hero System just so we could have a solid baseline for comparing characters of different games and as a set jumping point for discussions just like these (because there really seems to be a lot of them) and most of the problems seem to arise because everyone has different view on what is "a normal human stat" and what is a maximum human stat. I am firmly in the "keep Batman with in human norms for stats and buy the rest up with skills/talents/etc..." camp. Is it fair when other people can buy stats high enough to get eh same effect for cheaper? Sure. I'm a firm believer in people playing concepts/characters and building them from that idea. Mature enough players should be willing to except that and play the concept or come up with a new character concept/idea. Also, if you are playing a 600 point game, maybe a "Batman-type" character is a bad fit right from the get go. Players (and their GM's) should realize this before they ever start playing a campaign and fix it before it is a problem. In comics the writers force such team-ups because they are being forced by the editors to bring popular characters together to sell a product, even if it is a stupid idea and makes no logical sense. I mean why the hell would superman need batman to help him out? There is nothing Batman can do that superman couldn't do fast or better (or even differently) to get the same result. In a RPG the GM isn't forced to make such concessions. If two characters (even if they are made with the same amount of points) are in vastly different power leagues then he should step in a do something about it. talk to one (or both) of the players and work with them to make things balanced if that is what they want. If it isn't then there is no problem. But it all comes down to GM control and being clear with the players about what the campaign will be like, what types of characters will fit, etc... Most of the time it seems to me that the GM's leave to much up to the player to decide and don't like telling them "No" because they are afraid they player will be upset and not want to play, but then why play at all if the game won't be fun? Sure, in D&D all the players can make their own first level characters at home and just show up and start playing, because the system is built for that. Very little control, very little freedom, etc... But Hero's is the exact opposite. Two different 350 point character can be miles apart in power. I can't imagine every GMing (or even playing) a Hero game where the GM isn't a big part of player creation, just for this very fact. Anyways, just my thoughts.
  20. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central There was very little I understood in that last post...
  21. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central Is it too late to apply?
  22. Re: Se7en Write-ups Some people consider Morgan Freeman very good looking, so his COM should be higher.
  23. Re: Wild Card's Hero Yah, Golden Boys force field is strange. It is off unless something is about to (possibly) hurt him. I remember one point where he is having a drink and gets angry. He crushes the glass in his hand and his force field flashes weakly for a second, protecting him from the broken glass. If it was a trigger, it would be uncontrolled mixed with always on, because it does prevent him from unseen/surprise attacks, yet I seem to recall it turning on when he got angry (standing on the battlefield, glowing, even when no one is directly attacking him). Also, I think a lot has been made of him "not being able to survive falls" because when he was thrown off the balcony in the hotel and was saved by the gravity guy (I can't remember his name right now) but that is never proven. In fact we know that the force field does work when he falls, but just that he had never fallen from that high before. I might give his force field a limitation against velocity damage, maybe working at 1/2 strength or something like that. For all we (or anyone else knows) he might walk away fine from such a fall.
  24. Re: STRONGHOLD -- What Do You Want To See? Super Powered Guards. Super Heroes who's powers (and lack of adventuring spirit) would make them perfect to work as prison guards. Good Pay, nice benefits package. Lot's of coffee.
