was that the article aobut using chicken offal and such?

Pretty interesting, but I can't remember whether it was really efficient in terms of energy used. Still it has a lot of potential.

Now if I could talk the paper companies into being responsible and using
    a) all the damned branches and such that are left after logging
    and
Papyrus reeds which could be harvested a couple times a year in south and central america, and leftovers could probably be used for other biomass situations

and get some more support for using wheat straw to make strawboard, which is kind of like a high density particle board made out of what is now waste...

In Yesterday's D&D game, Aaron the GM is describing this scene out of the module where a female Barbarian is fending off a group of Orcs, she sees us and then yells for us to come down and help her. After her speech, she swings her axe and cuts down one Orc and hits another with the same swing.

I say, "She must have the Cleave feat. Maybe even Great Cleave."

A young man was lost wandering in a forest, when he came upon a small house. He knocked on the door and was greeted by an ancient Chinese man with a long, grey beard. "I'm lost," said the man. "Can you put me up for the night?"
"Certainly," the Chinese man said, "but on one condition. If you so much as lay a finger on my daughter, I will inflict upon you the three worst Chinese tortures known to man."

"Ok," said the man, thinking that the daughter must be pretty old as well, and entered the house.

Before dinner, the daughter came down the stairs. She was young, beautiful, and had a fantastic figure. She was obviously attracted to the young man since she couldn't keep her eyes off him during the meal. Remembering the old man's warning, he ignored her and went up to bed alone. But during he night, he could bear it no longer, and sneaked into her room for a night of passion. He was careful to keep everything quiet so the old man wouldn't hear. Near dawn he crept back to his room, exhausted, but happy.

He woke to feel a pressure on his chest. Opening his eyes he saw a large rock on his chest with a note on it that read, "Chinese Torture 1: Large rock on chest." "Well, that's pretty crappy," he thought. "If that's the best the old man can do then I don't have much to worry about." He picked the boulder up, walked over to the window and threw the boulder out. As he did so he noticed another note on it that read: "Chinese Torture 2: Rock tied to left testicle." In a panic he glanced down and saw the rope that was already getting close to the end. Figuring that a few broken bones was better than castration, he jumped out of the window after the boulder. As he plummeted downward he saw a large sign on the ground that read, "Chinese Torture 3: Right testicle tied to bedpost."

Something just made my brain click onto this exchange from a con game a few months back.

As we go into the final battle, the Master Villain is revealed to be... my character's Evil Twin Brother! Naturally, we square off. As we close to HtH range:

Brother: "Dad always thought you were better than me!"
    Me: "Dad was right!"

After which, he crit'ed me across the room, and I spent the next couple turns digging myself out of the wall

Whoa, deja vu. About three weeks ago in an Aberrant game I'm in, I did the same thing -- my character reached over and cold-cocked another party member right in the middle of a conversation. Our characters still aren't speaking to each other, and it almost destroyed teamwork at a critical juncture. Also, it's not normally my guy's style.

And yet, at the time, given where everybody's head was at that moment, it just seemed to make perfect sense even though I *knew*, before I even did it, that the fallout for this would be falling out for months.

(add) Oh, and there's a quote attached to it as well. Doing from memory...

Thanks for the condolences, folks. Rosie is not in any pain anymore, but she slept on my wife's pillow for around 18 years.

It is going to be rough. The worst part is that she was feeling a little better today, the abcess drained during the night, apparently.

two years ago we had to put down my Wife's 17 or so year old Boston Terrier.

THis year we lost a new cat (my favorite) to coyotes or some such, had to put down another cat that has slept with my wife for 10 years after he became very ill, and now rosie.

    It has been rough.

Roseshadow, Pukha, Scoop, and Sassy. We miss you.

    Thanks again, folks.

Well, the basics are that someone discovers that there is a network of underwater "caves" 100 meters below sea level. However there is a wrought stone entryway with the simbol of the "Minoan" Axe on lintel. Full arch, too by the way.

Eventually, once our intrepid explorerers find a way to survive, they start finding odd things, such as jumbled skeletons of men and bulls. If anyone thinks to ask, well yes, there do seem to be no bull hindquarters or human heads... If anyone has the right knowledge skills (or even background) They will notice major anatomical problems in bone structure and such in addition.

They might even find a vaguely horselike skeleton... No head, but a partial humanoid torso near by. Actually more apelike, though.

Deeper and deeper they travel and eventually they find a temple like structure. Where one might expect to find an altar, there is an arched gateway, Straight into the wall.

I forgot this one from a couple weeks ago. A player new to Champions (but not to gaming) had thrown herself on a grenade to protect nearby civilians. After finding out her force field was strong enough to not only save her life, but prevent any serious wounding:

"That's all the damage I take? Being a superhero is cool!"

I hope the treatments do you good, my aunt has had mixed results in the last decade or so with Her MS. She has been coming to the NW yearly from Shreveport, so she is functioning though it is worse some days than others.

This Wednesday our group started its first game of the BUFFY RPG. My character is a Chicago detective who retired to this sleepy town near Lake Tahoe, California (unknowing that it became the next Hellmouth after Sunnydale was destroyed).

He sees a monster hunter chasing somebody who turns out to be a vampire. He gets involved in the fight and finds out that his 44 Magnum doesn't do much good against vamps. He's saved by a couple of supernaturally-powered monster hunters (other PCs) who tell him to leave their hunting grounds. No fool, my character complies.

Except that the other two characters later on end up in a fight between two OTHER PCs (the town Slayer and an expatriate Troll) and the GM decides that they're brawling it out right outside my house. So having learned from experience, I take my gun, lean out the window, and yell:
"Anybody who's immune to bullets, raise your hand!"
