  1. Re: 5eR in play

I really' date=' really don't think you need to worry about the paper. My wife has done book-binding and some paper-making; to properly qualify she refers to herself as a "book-binder" not "book-maker"[/quote']

Probably to distance the profession from bookie. :D

And knowing your wife, I'd use her as an expert witness for paper. (Hmm, can't think of a scenario for this. Death by papercuts?)

  2. Re: Sex and the Single Superhuman

Scales: He's still very much in love with his wife who died in the 60s. Of course she still talks to him as a ghost...

Triad: Two rival scientists (male & female) and an idiot janitor sharing the same energy body. Can't see any romance going on here.

Spectrum: Currently dating a hero in New York while she operates out of Detroit. But she's got a long range tport, so it's not really a long distance relationship.

  3. Re: SFX Stunts : Cool or Abusive?

I know it's a tangent' date=' but would you care to elaborate on your Magneto comment? He's a MAJOR NPC in my game but I'm running him without a lot of hands-on comic knowledge (I'll admit it, I was more inspired by the movie Magneto, and I only read the X-Men much at all back in the early '70s when they weren't popular and I was a kid). So you probably have some great, even if munchkiny, examples of his comic book powers... :eg: (that emoticon is especially for lemming, or if lamrok happens to note (or chromatic, but he's even less often on the boards))[/quote']

Hey! Well, I do have a large collection of X titles in the basement. Pretty much up to 93 if you want to spend some time in research.

And getting hit by a bottle of frozen water hurts. don't ask.

  4. Re: Called Shots and Champions

I do hit locations however the multipliers are always the Nstun multipliers for after defense. And Killing attacks are set at x3 multiplier as well.

And for 20 points you can have a No hit location modifier on top of that.

And since points aren't really the issue in my games, no problems there.

With those changes, I haven't had a problem.

  5. Re: Leaping plus Move Through?

I think the old days were you had to hit the hex with your leap (At whatever range mods. 20" would be -6 at the old -1/3" if he's at max range (and -6 for new fangled range...). And then you did your attack against the target based on velocity. In this case -4.

By my reading, it's the same case under 5th edition. Of course if you have the Accurate modifier (+5 pnts) on your leaping, you wouldn't have to roll to hit the target hex.

  6. Re: WWYCD: Toy Recall!

Scales: As leader of a large group of heroes (Protectors) and ties with quite a few other hero groups and some sympathetic villians, we could get this mess cleaned up right away. And Black Harlequin better hope he gets caught by some of the more CVK minded people and he will. He's strickly small change, but booby trapping children's toys is a quick way to gain the attention of the power players. After Scales got a hold of one of the toys, he'd be able to get some magic into the mix to trace down where all the toys were.

Ice Pirate & Calico are members of the Protectors as well, and both would kick the problem upstairs as it were before going out. IP would be in the retrieval team, though once Christmas was explained to her, she'd probably whip up a suitable replacement toy.

Calico would put herself in the hunt down BH like the dog he is. She wouldn't kill him, but it would be a while before he'd be functional again.

Spectrum She could use magic, but thinks that a device by Nexus would be a good tracking system for the robots. And then we have the aid of the world's best detective to be able to figure out exactly who has each robot as well. We'd also be able to replace each toy.

  7. Re: The cranky thread

    National Advancement of Incompetents.

His problem is he isn't incompetent.

    Ooo, nice.

No. It was Network Associates, Inc. More of a "I let them crash my career". I didn't take off when I should of and tried to salvage something there.

  8. Re: What should be DROPPED from HERO?

I've been catching up on a lot of threads; I THINK someone mentioned it in a DIFFERENT thread, actually.

I have not attempted that divorce, but I am highly inclined to, I tend to agree with it, or at least PER should only be partially, much less, influenced by INT.

You should try this out one game. Just drop everyone's per roll to 11-. I'm sure we'll be happy to try this out. :eg:

  9. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Well, as of 220 this afternoon. The Missus and I became Homeowners. Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. I might be off boards for a while as moving requires me to box up this computer I am typing on.

    See you all next year!

    Congratualtions! You will be missed.

  10. Re: The cranky thread

    Sorry' date=' Mark.[/quote']

Eh, I'll be fine in a little bit. Just why would they advertise a bunch of qualifications (that I happen to fit and exceed), but narrow down to. "Well, you haven't tested a pure web application, so we're afraid we'll be looking at other candidates" :nonp: Um, I've worked on a bunch of applications that had those web components, so there was more than what you were asking for! Nothing to be said for building a QA team from scratch.

That and I got another sign that NAI destroyed my career.

  11. Re: What should be DROPPED from HERO?

I view the Regen mistake as one of balance' date=' efficiency, and playability all sacrificed inappropriately to consistency. (Of course "mistake" is my opinion/view as well, not a fact) Any toolkit system needs to explain mechanisms for how to balance all these components and deliver a gaming system that works reasonably well.[/quote']

I thought some more about it and came to something like what they did with Talents could of been done with Regen. It's all the clutter that I object to, but the streamlined versions would work.

So one could have a five powers version and then the derived versions further down. If you wanted to, you could refer to something as Defense, Costs End, Resistant or just say Force Field.

  12. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

And of course the spaghetti sauce is not on the list - it's only ilke EIGHT FREAKING ITEMS - regular Safeway bread (which mysteriously is frequently out of stock)' date=' the French bread, whole Lucerne milk (don't like their milk at all), and I can't recall the other items, but very limited selection.[/quote']

I've liked their yogurt. And we sometimes get their cat food for the ferals.

  13. Re: What should be DROPPED from HERO?

Which I also find interesting' date=' as I could have sworn there was some ruling in the past that INTRODUCED the idea that Breakfall could be used for DFC. Don't know where I got that notion.[/quote']

Could be my game where I allow Multiple DFCs as well, but then I don't allow DFC against single shot attacks as a free get out of the way. Basically you can still dive, but it happens after the attack and you get a dodge bonus. Best use for DFC in my games are getting out of the way of the multiple explosions, etc...

  14. Re: Hot Enough For Ya?

I'm gonna get flamed (heh) for this, but I was only half joking with my first response. I say some of it could be GM fiat. You're running Galactic Champions, Captain Galaxy and Omnipetus are duking it out and you think having the fight in corona of the sun would be a cool back drop, they've got Full LS and High Resistant ED. Why not?

Of course, that might the Exalted gm in me talking. :)

    I'm with you actually.
