  1. If true that would be the first tangible indicator that what his son said about him during the campaign was correct - he's not planning on handling domestic or foreign policy himself. I wouldn't be surprised if the 'commander in chief' role is the least interesting to him. Which admittedly suits the style of an international CEO - he has people for that. If he has the right people then why would he need to be troubled by the minutia of leading when he can just focus on the business plan and delegate it? I'm not particularly opposed to him being a hands off president, to be honest. I wouldn't be heartbroken if he spent the next four years playing Minecraft at the desk.
  2. Doesn't that basically describe every single superhero show ever, though?
  3. There's a difference in how far each statement reached, though, as Megaplayboy has said. If you scream from the mountaintops for all to hear "I will build a wall" and then say to a few people on the ground after "Not a REAL wall. You know, a wall of vigilance and observation." you get remembered for screaming "I will build a wall" Saying the political equivalent of 'Just kidding' to a source that won't reach as far as your initial controversial claims shouldn't cut it. At the same time "Soar" is correct in that most people who formed an opinion based on the campaign rhetoric won't be moved by any public apologies on the matter regardless of the 'volume'. I don't think it's going to either benefit nor harm him to go to verbal war against the alt-right. I don't think it will earn him voters but it will certainly cost him a few (said alt-right).
  4. it is sound advice but he defies all sound advice. He was immune to backlash during the election. Why wouldn't he be as President?
  5. With my luck I'd find a nice little memento. I'd be curious why it was on the black market but since I was shopping there I'd probably just figure it was stolen and somehow be ok with that for the moment. It would have an alien virus on it that I was unaware of and basically wipe out all life on earth when I got back. Not sure I haven't already contracted it this week to be honest...
  6. At this point BOTH parties should be looking at each other and saying "My God, what have we done?" Did the media cause the riots? No. Did the parties cause the riots? No. Did Trump becoming president cause the riots? No. Were they all catalysts? Quite probably. American culture is steeped in standing up to bullies. If you run a campaign where you're perceived as one the entire time based on the things you say and the things you don't say you can't expect people to stand down because it 'worked'. You don't just get to make people literally terrified of your victory and expect their fears to magically evaporate with one vaguely political sounding speech. You don't get time to show that it was all 'locker room talk' and that the campaign you ran won't reflect your presidency. Actions have consequences. The way this campaign was run these riots were inevitable no matter who won - if the results were switched there's no way Trump wouldn't be calling for recounts in Florida and Pennsylvania at the very least, and no way his voter base wouldn't be on the streets demanding it (especially if he won the popular vote - both he and they would be able to point at that and scream 'see, see... the system IS rigged.') There's actually quite a few Republicans on the NeverTrump side. A lot of us are more angry with the party than anything else - this caricature of a Republican candidate never should have won the primary. I wasn't kidding earlier when I said that many Republicans held their noses as they voted for their parties candidate... it describes three quarters of my family. None of them actually support Trump and his rhetoric but all of us are ready to give him the benefit of the doubt (as a president NOT as a person. He earns nothing but contempt for the things he's said.) You are a hundred percent correct - this mayhem must be stopped before more people get hurt. The real question will be - based on everything else that led to it - how? Condemning it will not work, and actions against it will make it worse. tl:dr: I wish people would chill out, but I understand why they feel like they can't.
  7. That the Chinese used information gleaned from Clinton's email server to fabricate the content of those leaks - that they're all actually about Clinton and the Democrats with hackers just changing the headers.
  8. Winning is more important than anything to people. Their guy won so that's the end of it. It could come out that he rigged Florida and his followers would claim it was justified to counter the unfair media bias and unregistered illegal voters that the election officials (paid off by the establishment) were allowing to vote. The silent majority of Republicans (who plugged their noses or chugged Pepto Bismal as they voted for him) would roll their eyes but continue to silently enjoy maintaining control of the House and Senate.
  9. If reasonable I will agree with his policies. I will support his policies. I will fight for his policies. If successful I will praise his policies. I will never agree with, support, praise, or fight for him as a human being. There aren't enough inner cities schools in the world he could build, or press conference apologies saying 'I was just kidding', to make me forget or forgive the things he's said.
  10. A few: An archaeologist who had his latent magical potential jump started when he found an ancient tablet of a long gone mystical society. The power manifested uncontrolled but he spent a year in seclusion at the site to get it under control before rejoining society and actively works to protect the world from magical threats. An immortal vagabond who doesn't really seek out superheroics but can't stand by if he can help ... despite endlessly telling himself that this time he won't get involved. A brick that is similar in so much that she doesn't really fight crime - she's happy to just use her super strength as a dockyard worker - crime fights her (because crime just doesn't learn to leave well enough alone). A mutant psychic who joined the police force specifically to use his powers to help solve crimes. But overall most of my characters do have an element of stress or tragedy about them. It provides motivation in the fastest way possible (which is why it's such a heavily used superhero origin trope).
  11. Turnabout is fair play as long as it doesn't hurt the country. By all means filibuster every stupid or divisive thing that comes along but don't follow the path that's been taken far too frequently in recent history and reject a good idea based solely on who proposed it. I hate when politicians do that - no matter their party affiliation.
  12. If they did they have learned the hard way that there is truth in the adage that "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics." Always vote. Even if you're in California.
  13. The AP has called Pennsylvania for Trump. That's basically it, once it gets confirmed.
  14. I think Pence would basically be running things anyways (until Trump gets jealous and fires him or something) - and I'm ok with that. My beef has always been how foolish Trump would make America look on the world stage. America may forget everything stupid he's said or done (or at least apparently not care about it, which we knew over a year ago) but the WORLD won't.
  15. You got involved and you did your best. Even if Trumplestilskin takes it then you can hold your head up high and say "I cared".
  16. He took Florida, Iowa, and Ohio. He needed to do that to have a chance and he did.
  17. I doubt Sanders would have done better (though he might have been more popular). History isn't on the Democrats side for three term wins in modern politics. The Republicans could probably field an inanimate carbon rod and get similar results. And frankly I wish they had. World markets are already getting a bit skittish. Let's see how this all plays out.
  18. No matter who wins I think we need to find Barry Allen and convince him to go back and undo whatever he changed that resulted in this election cycle and restore the timeline.
  19. That's always been my first impulse as well - but being a father of two does a pretty good job of curbing it. Do I really want to leave my wife with two children under five for taking a shortcut through an area I knew I shouldn't or not giving up a seat on the bus (or even my wallet)? Unrecognizable is where it's at these days - no more defiance, just pure revenge. Saying "It's none of your business" to an armed stranger with your 9 year old present is more than brave enough.
  20. It' not illegal to lie to these people. I would have said "Of course not. Donald Trump all the way." and then voted for whoever I wanted. It's not always the best idea to agree with lunatics you meet but it often is.
  21. Who says there's no truth in advertising these days?
  22. I'm glad they're at least trying to flush out the other CSI (even if he does turn out to be Doctor Alchemy). Kind of a 'filler' feeling episode overall. I'm not certain I like the direction they're taking Snow and 'Ideaman' Wells but there was nothing wrong with the acting of either part so I'm happy to let it play out.
  23. The Cubs won the World Series so I think Giant Meteor might not be out of this race yet.
  24. A Ghost Rider series would have to be Netflix to be done right. And I'm completely on board with that idea.
