  1. As for utilizing villains, I have found no problem using either version with either version of game. There is no problem playing a 6th edition villain in a 5th edition game or a 5th edition villain in a 6th edition game. The only ones that should share the same game type is the characters. That way you know that they technically are on the same ground. The only real difference is if you are using a 6th edition villain in a 5th edition game you will need to half his/her movement and if you are using a 5th edition villain in a 6th edition game you will need to double his/her movement.

  2. I wonder how you would make a character who has the ability to fluently speak every language. Universal Translator wouldn't work as it only has you speak the language rather basically, always showing that you do not truly know the language. You could try and purchase every language but in that case your character would absolutely have no powers and be unable to do anything other than speak languages. Would there be any other options?

True, but the real benefit is it improves your chance of being able to pull the hostage free if they are being held.  That is what the extra STR does allow you to do.

Actually, it does not. It only gives you the benefit of holding someone and keeping them from escaping, It does not give you any extra STR to be able to pull someone from another grab.

If all you want to do is to grab a single hostage, the grab by maneuver will allow you to do it but has penalties that make it difficult to count on.  The grab by maneuver takes a -3 OCV and -4 DCV, which puts the character at a real disadvantage.  By spending 5 points for a flying grab, it reduces the penalties to a -2 OCV and -1 DCV and Gives the character +10 STR to grab with.  So, a character with a flying grab can probably safely get two hostages with only a -1 to his DCV.   Using TK or Teleport as an attack would allow the character to save multiple targets without exposing the character to much danger.  Like I said earlier it depends on what the player wants to be able to do.

One note, just because you get the bonus to STR for holding on does not mean you can carry more. If you have a 10 STR you can still only carry one person, the grab bonus would not allow you to carry two people, it only makes your grab harder to escape from.

  5. But I guess there is a difference between a war game like Battletech and a Single Combat game like Hero. In Battletech you can have that mech combat with five to 10 units of four per side, but if you tried to do that with Hero, each segment would probably take at least a week. While with Hero each mech during its phase has quite a lot of options as to what it can do, Battletech your mech can move and fire weapons, that's it.

  6. We used to play Battle Tech using Hero Robot Warrior rules. Loved it better as there was much more you could do with your mech in combat. We just stated that END was Heat. One thing though, mechs that can shift from mech to fighter suck in Battle Tech but not in Robot Warriors. If I can find my Battle Tech writeups I will have to put it on this site.

You could by Tunneling to represent that or in 6th Alternate Movement would work.

Problem is that Tunneling is a movement power so and you would only be able to move about one or two inches if the wall is not very thick.

But I guess it would depend on the special effect. So I guess I change my mind, Tunneling might be a good way to be able to move through walls and still attack.

You are the best kind of correct, Sir, but there is also the oft-repeated "common sense / dramatic sense" rule as well.  I just call it a wash and dont adjust pricing:  Desolid: no invulnerability; affects solid. +0.

Of course that would be much cheaper as Affect Physical World is a +2 Advantage on every attack.

They are a bit of a pain, and I think the only time they come up is if someone is abusing the system, and the GM wants to pull back a bit on the reins.  Certainly +1 to instantly accelerate or stop feels like a bit of an excessive cost.  I can go twice as fast... or get going in a hurry?

But the acceleration only really comes into play when going non-combat speeds, and considering when at non-combat speed the character has a 0 OCV they probably won't be grabbing anyone.

  9. And a lot of it is the same as you would see in a movie. Technically if Lois is falling from an 80-story building and Superman catches her five feet before she hits the ground, still every bone in her body would be broken even though she didn't hit the pavement. This is because of the sudden stop in speed from her fall. She is going from approximately 150 MPH to 0 in less than a second. But in a movie, or a roleplaying game, you have the heroic equation. This means that Superman can somehow stop her while stopping any internal reactions in her as well, which means no damage to her.

The same would go for the Flash grabbing anything when running at his incredible speed. Normally if he were to grab that gun from the bad guy he would be tearing the man's entire hand off as well as crushing the gun. But due to the heroic equation he is able to just suddenly remove the weapon with no damage to the one holding it.

  10. I ran a game once with Clown where they were rather vicious. They definitely loved pranks, but people died for their pranks (or at least were seriously hurt). And like the Joker they absolutely loved to go after NPCs. They normally didn't go to kill the heroes, just the ones around them to show them that they were worthless. In fact, they definitely tried to not kill the heroes, wound them even severely definitely, but not kill them. This was a multiple reality game, so the players fought both versions of Clown, and they definitely hated the evil version more.

I have taken such groups and said that they are attempting to purify humanity. They are targeting EVERYONE who displays ANY form of powers, it doesn't matter what the nature is, where they come from,  how they are derived, etc.  As a result, Iron Man,  Thor, Wolverine,  Ant Man, Thanos,  and conventional 5-point "character " will all be given equal consideration for such people. Extremists seldom single out anyone from those who they target,  even loved ones or party members.

In the Pride and Prejudice book, the IHA pretty much does hate any superpowered entity (that is not completely part of them) but for advertisement purposes only states mutants as you can't say you hate everyone and be considered valid. The IHA uses mutants as their tool for hate. Anyone they hate is either a mutant (whether they actually are or not) or a friend of mutants. So if Iron Man were in the world, they would hate him as he obviously must be a mutant as he can create such technology and/or he is friends with mutants so therefor must be hated.

  12. I would put a Custom Complication as Paid Off for the points and then reduce the Points by the listed amount paid off. Otherwise you are just getting rid of a Complication but not paying anything for it.

It was much simpler in 5th edition and before that disadvantages were just part of the points you could spend. I like much of 6th edition but that is one thing that I think shouldn't have been changed.

From the parts I did read, it didn't seem like a first effort.  (For instance, it doesn't seem riddled with poor grammar and misspellings galore.)  There were a few things I laughed out loud at.  (Referring to Genocide:  "Plus the branding sucked.")  I'm pretty sure there will be more.  Keep up the good work.

(One tip, though - "it's" is short for "it is", not the possessive of "it".  Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine, and each time I saw it used incorrectly I cringed.)

Well I am a published author. I have one novel out and am working on a second one. But writing a book and writing a gaming module are completely different things.
