  1. Re: Ranged attacks while engaged in melee D&D uses Attacks of opportunity to make certain actions in combat risky. Something along the lines of "Sure you can cast a spell right in front of that magic hating barbarian but he gets a free swing, are you sure you want to?" Hero uses DCV penalties to make actions risky. By 6E2:206 pretty much all the muscle powered ranged weapons require concentration with is half DCV. "Sure you can fire your longbow at the guy directly in front of you but you'll be at half DCV, are you sure you want to?" I like hero system better in that it allow for more finely grained and doesn't constantly interrupt the current action.
  2. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive As of 10 pm last night my books had been on the road for 4 days and finally made it to Chicago. By google miles that's about 3/4 of the way to me. Just one more day on a truck. Then sorted overnight and delivered tomorrow. That's what I'm hoping. I must learn patience...
  3. Re: Inherent: SFX, any? These are all examples of adjustment powers based on SFX. This goes back to my point that adjustments should typically be based on SFX rather than power. These are all a VPP being used to target a specific thing, but if they were bought powers you logically should have been able to dispel any spell, not just the water breathing suppress and electrical power, not just the extra limbs suppress only gills and similar things, not LS based on super breath holding or a sealed diving suit.
  4. Re: Inherent: SFX, any? Yes! I can't rep again unfortunately. For a while now every adjustment power I've written up has been any power of [some] SFX. It's hard in game logic to justify a drain EB that can drain a fire blast, lightning bolt, and thrown rock, but not a fire blast (RKA). I even argues that this should be the default in 6E. There are some justifications for draining a single power, but even they break down. I can thicken water to drain swimming whether it's biological (fins and muscles), mechanical (diesel motor and prop), or elemental (water control), but what about the guy who bought TK based flying usable as. I can suppress running in an area with a sticky floor SFX, but not to that guy who has ground gliding (if that still exists in 6E). Inherent is at the cross roads of SFX. I can't drain extra limbs with my bio stasis power but I can make them useless by draining their strength. Next time I GM I plan to make adjusment powers work against a single SFX as the default.
  5. Re: AI with remote "puppet" body The APG has a couple of cool options that could work. Projection (Physical projection side bar specifically) provides a way for the AI to project it's consciousness out as a body. Merging and Possession would allow the AI to take control of a separately built robot body. Which could then have a minimal computer brain for when the AI isn't there. If the AI has consciousness at both itself and the robot body I would go with duplication. The APG even suggests this in it's discussion of Projection.
  6. Re: Lucha Libre: El Vetica He has a mini sidekick Comic Sans... <--- Wish I could strike through No I'm wrong, the mini sidekick is subscript. Comic Sans is the incompetent DNPC that stumbles into trouble and needs to be rescued each time.
  7. I got my copy of Lucha Libre Hero last week, watched El Santo Contra Las Vampiras over the weekend to get in the right mood, and then dug in. I'm reading straight through and so far it's full of awesome. And I see no indication that the awesome to page ratio will drop in the back half of the book. That was all great timing because just today one of the link farms I follow posted a link to information about El Vetica. I'd never head of El Vetica before but he sounds like a really important figure. From the info page: "El Vetica, also know as El Kernudo, held the Mexican Inter-Continental belt for an unprecedented 7 years, from 1977–84." I don't think we can let such an important figure and Mexico's only typographer/luchador go unrepresented in HERO system any longer. How would you buy his legendary Typography skills? I was thinking going the legendary route from Ultimate Skill and just buying PS: Typography 21-. But there has to be more than that. How does his in depth knowledge of typography affect his technique? How does his wrestling effect his typography?
  8. Re: OMCV Whats it good for (besides Mental Powers) And rules for using OMCV as the basis for breakout.
  9. Re: Hero Podcast: What Would You Like To Hear? It all sounds good. I would add to that list that every so often I'd love to hear the hero crew and guest stars take a particularity problematic power concept and build it. As for
  10. Re: Confusion Field Wouldn't a CE that forces and INT or EGO roll also work here?

  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This week's fantasy campaign. Gramps (fire mage) with help from the GM to get the wording just right "I'm going to bust a ruby to shoot the blue ball with a scorching ray." All: laughter GM: I need to get out more. iPod (on shuffle): Dream On, Dream on
  13. Re: PS-238 Characters Yes. Skater helmets disrupt my ability to recognize faces. Others complain about it too, so it's not just me with a broken brain. Moonshadow's helmet would cause me problems in real life.
  14. Re: The Ten Things I Love About 6e and the Ten Things I hate about 6e This is genre specific. Depending on your interpretation of the fae a faerie may very well take damage from oatmeal that was processed technologically and survive quite well on manually processed oatmeal. During the time when they were really working Superman's vulnerability to magic he may very well have been burned by magic fire and not a burning building.

    6E Mess

Re: 6E Mess The way I see it if power activation is instant then even if you walk around without powers most of the time you are only at a disadvantage to sneak attacks. Force Field Man has the same problem and doesn't get any points for it. Even Always Tough Man takes 2x stun from total surprise, so your unpowered character doesn't take much extra damage even in a surprise situation. So unless the campaign is very heavy with sneak attack on secret IDs then for me this just falls into the noise and isn't' worth anything to me.

    6E Mess

Re: 6E Mess It sounds to me like there is no point for looking for a bonus like OIHID. If neither character is limited by the process of the change its not a limitation. I mean I'm stating the obvious here, but if it's not limiting them then it's not worth any points. Instead for both these characters the physical transform is just an aspect of turning on their powers. If there are some aspects that are limited by this dichotomy such as your super heroine being more beautiful in hero form then give here some striking appearance linked to or some kind of custom unusable with other powers in her suite.
  17. Re: Post "gotchas" here Ooooh. Interesting distinction. In that case I would definitely add Physical Manifestation. Badger!
  18. Re: Post "gotchas" here That was kind of the point. I don't see that text or anything like it in Constant but it's a direct quote from 6E1 Damage over Time, -rr
  19. Re: Post "gotchas" here That should probably have 1 continuing recoverable charge on it and maybe physical manifestation too. On a serious note though. Didn't constant attack powers use to require the same "reasonably common and obvious set of circumstances that will turn it off or negate it" that Damage Over Time has now?
  20. I haven't yet been part of 6E game but I've been thinking about what conversion, if any, is needed for a 5E character to run in that 6E game. My current thinking is that for many characters no conversion is needed. Sure points will be wrong but most of the powers and the combat system work similarly enough that it'll just work. Even base CVs start the same even that works. Sure a 5E character may have a Force Field built as a forcefield instead of build as resistant protection costs end and a 5E character always has the same OCV and DCV but mostly it's close enough to do in your head as you're playing. So the interesting question is what doesn't work that easily and what's the mental conversion I can use until I can be bothered to rewrite all those 5E characters I have around. A lot of things can be used as written on the 5E sheet. Things like FF, Armor, and resistant PD are used the same way just written up differently, so I simply use them as written. Armor FF Resistance Gliding Transfer Increased Knockback Many others... Some things need a little work. All ranges and movement distances are doubled. Force wall is a barrier with no body, configurable, and costs endurance. Effectively the same. 5 points plus or minus to COM become 1 level striking appearance. Growth and shrinking are pretty different but can just use the old rules for effects, the numbers are already on the sheet and all the pieces all still work the same way Some things need more work or I don't have a good mental conversion for them yet. Deflection/Reflection maybe just use the new versions? What do you think, am I wrong on any of these? Did I miss something important?
  21. Re: Update to 6ed? I've been leafing through the bestiary as I work on a new campaign and this isn't really true. With only a few exceptions you can use a 5E character sheet in a 6E game without changes. This is even more true for the bestiary as the creatures don't tend to use the things that changed. The costs will be wrong but the characteristics, skills, powers are al there and still usable. I've only seen one potential problem doing this. With the new damage adding rules*the limit of adding up to a max of double the base damage is now just a guideline. It's recommended as a hard rule for fantasy but not required. If you don't use it this could cause problems with some creatures , mostly those that can charge with an HKA, getting a ton of extra damage. Don't mess with a Rhino. I'm guessing that there will be more value to upgrading the various spells books. 6E offers cool new options and I bet a lot of cool spells will make use of the new Area of Effect and Usable by nearby rules. But like the bestiary most of the existing spells will just work. Some will need massaging or rebuilding; anything Force wall based or damage shield based. Only a few based on things like find weakness won't work.
