My issue with comics is the state of the art. It's TERRIBLE.
In re crossovers: yeah, especially now because you have to make a special trip to the comics store...IF there's one in your area. This makes the crossover problem much more acute...took a lot of trips. I think the overuse of crossovers may have had a general market depression effect...because you couldn't subscribe to 2-3 favorites and get the whole story, and subscribing to 10-12? For 1-2 issues you wanted??? And last point on those lines: you almost couldn't NOT stay current with them, because they were major shifts, if not complete resets.

And this phrasing suggests it is NOT directly appealable. That phrasing suggests the basis is conduct detrimental to the league. League's saying enough is enough. A decent suspension...based on usual NBA suspensions...didn't fix things. Just a couple weeks later, there's this? Yeah, it's a bigger hammer than I'd guessed, but it makes sense. In some ways, this actually feels similar to the Ja Morant suspension.
EDIT: apparently Green has agreed that he needs help, so there will be no appeal, despite the indeterminate length.

With regard to comics locking out new young readers, I don't think it's really the complexity that's the issue most of the time. It's the cost. $4-5 per floppy is crazy, especially in an era where standalone stories are almost unheard of and storytelling decompression is forced on everything to fit in trades properly. Combine that with endless crossover events that try to get you to buy large numbers of titles to get the whole story (and interrupt ongoing stories in individual books in the process) and comics are a terrible value for your entertainment dollar even adjusting for inflation.
There are many other issues with modern comics, especially from the Big Two, but at the end of the day they just plain cost too much to compete with the thousands of other entertainment options kids have these days. And among those options are countless free webcomics, some of which (eg Silverback and its side stories, Magellan) are as good as anything being printed on paper these days. They have a tendency to up and die or go on eternal hiatus without much warning (eg Strong Female Protagonist, Edison Rex, PS238) but regular comics get cancelled the same way too.

One trick I've seen for speedsters is a lot cheaper: Invis. They're simply moving too fast to be targeted. Desolid is just too much of a PITA. (And your suggestion wouldn't be legal.)

Well, in some incarnations, brioche practically IS a form of cake.
(Peter Reinhart's brilliant book, The Bread Baker's Apprentice, which won the James Beard and IACP cookbook of the year awards, lists 3 variations. Rich Man's Brioche has 1 pound of flour, 5 large eggs (about 1/2 pound), and 1 pound of butter. RICH!!!! is an understatement. Note that a pound cake adds a pound of sugar...it is a cake, after all...and ups it to a pound of eggs. And yeah, that brioche really is, I think, intended to be served sliced and covered with, say, a jam, marmalade, or the like.
And Marie Antoinette would clearly have the Rich Man's Version.
At the low end, the biggest difference is the butter drops to 1/4 pound. This is probably about the level where "brioche rolls" lie...quite soft, quite yummy, but now great for something like pulled pork or shredded, smoked brisket sandwiches, with a tangy sauce.

The woman at the center of the Texas abortion firestorm has left the state to have the procedure performed elsewhere. The only downside is, this may render any further legal action with regard to the questions about the Texas law, moot. That said, she and her doctors may well feel that waiting *at all* is just too risky/painful.
EDIT: the Texas Supreme Court ruled against her this evening anyway.
Now I'm worried that the woman and her family are going to face significant persecution/shaming, and maybe lawsuits based on the stupid Texas laws? Not sure about that. But I'm concerned she's going to be forced to relocate to another state.

Yeah, I think we've made this point, but it's worth repeating. 5E somewhat, and 6E *definitely*, is VERY hard to take in initially. I was cross-checking the Mind Scan point above? So I have the PDF open. The Mind Scan text takes up 5 pages. That counts the tables, but not the illustration. In Champions Complete, it's about a page and a half. Some of that is layout-related...the 6E book has excessive margins that cramp its text columns, for example. Particularly the outer page edge, where the chapter number is located. But that sheer Wall Of Text is intimidating, and makes finding some things very difficult.

And I expect you caught the same note I did. That used to be given a warning...and I do remember seeing the wideouts appearing to be warned, and step back, in the past. BUT NOT NOW. That penalty's been called 11 times this year, according to NBC's rules guy.
Illegal formation is another. You line up to run plays over and over and over. By gosh, tight ends and wideouts HAVE to know what, in any given formation, they are...the widest guy on a side has to be ON the line, the rest have to be OFF the line.
And, ya know, forgetting the snap count...happens sometimes. Yeah, it *shouldn't*...but it does. It's a brain cramp. But lining up like that? He never looked. One peek as he set up, that's all it should take. And he was just off the edge of the line, it's REALLY easy to see it. So, yeah, this goes down as one of the worst flags I can recall too. Oh, hey, there's one called against the Eagles!
Well, Cowboys have beaten a good team now. Interestingly, Philly still has the inside track...because of tiebreakers, and because they have the Seahawks, Giants, Cards, and Giants left. Win out, they win the division.
And has anyone noted how many 60 yard FGs have been made? One tonight, AND a 59 yarder. It's the 5th so far this year...by 5 different kickers.

Having played some O-line back in the day, there's one penalty I've always felt was absolutely inexcusable: False Start. If you were paying any attention in the huddle, you know the snap count. Just wait for the count, then go. It ain't rocket science.
But after today's games, I'm prepared to add a second inexcusable penalty: Lining Up In the Neutral Zone. Look at where you are, and look at where the ball is. If you're in front of the ball, you have to move back. And if you're a receiver who's a full step in front of your offensive line, you absolutely have to move back.
Mahomes and Reid can complain about a lack of warnings from the officiating crew, but it was a stupid, thoughtless penalty that didn't need to happen. Yeah, it probably cost them the game. So don't do that again, yeah?
Again, it ain't rocket science.

By the same token tho, we've all seen how successful just throwing money out there has been. Sure, it's worked at times...and it's bombed at times. Think Mets.
Also, turns out that a major portion of Ohtani's contract is deferred money, so his luxury tax impact is much smaller.
What concerns me is if this is going to spark another round of *massive* contract inflation. Sure, Ohtani's unique...on the field and off. He's the most marketable, the most popular player in baseball, and maybe the only rival in US pro sports now would be LeBron. But, the other players and their agents will see the number. And hey, maybe it'll be a while before it's *beaten*...but it raises the ceiling SO high that there's massive space underneath it.

I'm not going to 2nd guess the award, but the Ray Guy award for college punters went to the punter from Iowa. ESPN bottom line noted he had 36 punts of 50+ yards,
Well, yeah, but he probably had more opportunities for em, too..........

Possible, but not my take. It's not cruelty to them per se...it's that they don't give a *darn* about the indirect aspects. That baby was alive at the moment of conception, is their take. God entered in, and thus NOTHING man can do, can be allowed to change that.
I'm not saying this is a good argument, on multiple levels. I'm just saying "cruel" is the wrong word. Callous is closer. Ruthless, too, in the way that any single-minded philosophy is. It's not cruel, it's necessary. That's their take.

NYT's The Morning newsletter today was mostly a recap, and a warning.
The recap: things Trump has said he'd do, and public comments he's made about people.
The warning: don't think it's hot air.
The list goes on and on. The message also notes just how far Trump and his allies intend to go, to ensure personal loyalty to Trump among the senior members of government. We can presume a push to name a solid, no quarter Trumpist to become Speaker, should the Republicans keep the House in '24. Presumably in the Senate as well, if that flips. I doubt McConnell would be the Majority Leader.
There is also a massive, DEEP op-ed dive in The Atlantic. The entire Jan-Feb issue has 24 stories based on their staff's views of what would happen If Trump Wins.
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/toc/2024/01/
And figure...his entire first term was a dress rehearsal. If he gets a 2nd one, he (and his cronies) will be much better poised to smash things through.
