  1. Re: Martial Arts iiinnn ssspppaaaccceee!!! Which style is flexible enough? You also get the contraction of the (large) thigh muscles. Try holding yourself in the air by hanging from a bar or the like, then bring your knee up as fast as you can.
  2. Re: Bronze Avenger Armor I would change the insulated; remove safe in high pressure and replace it with "safe from skin contact poisons." Then add Life Support: "can breath in unusual atmosphere (toxic) as long as there is oxygen" (this is a real gas mask) 5 pts, OIF -1/2 =3 pts. Ear protection, hearing flash defense 5 pts, OIF -1/2 = 3 pts. Man amplifier system: + 5 STR (5 pt/1.5[OIF]=3 pts) and +5 CON (5 pt/1.5[OIF]=3 pts) for total of 6 points Impressive +5 PRE (5 pt/1.5[OIF]=3 pts) Now it totals 50 points.
  3. Re: Martial Arts iiinnn ssspppaaaccceee!!! Which style is flexible enough? ???? No they don't. Try it in a swimming pool. It works.
  4. Re: Another weird science post: Laser Recoil! While the posts that say "yes" are correct, in practice it would take an absurdly high powered laser to get enough recoil to be a problem to the firer.
  5. Re: Martial Arts iiinnn ssspppaaaccceee!!! Which style is flexible enough? Grabbing with both hands and using a knee strike works very well. "Flying kicks" work fine too, you just have to accept the recoil and use it to your advantage. Choke holds and nerve holds also work. Most armlocks, leg locks and wrist locks will be of little use in free fall since the body moves too easily. A hammer lock or "chicken wing" will work only if you can grab him with your other hand to prevent his movement. Full nelsons should work, but they are more strength dependent than most martial arts holds. Same with body scissors and bear hugs. The old "headlock and punch" tactic should work. Also the "grab with both hands and head butt."
  6. Re: Space Marine Platoon Roster That is a big platoon. 6 AFVs (with crew of 3 they are probably closer to Bradley type IFVs than APCs) are a major force in themselves, they should have a senior NCO to control them when the platoon is dismounted. The British handle this by having a second platoon sgt in their mech platoons; the US Army makes the bradleys a separate squad with their own squad leader. I might recommend that you make the platoon sgt a gunnery sgt, and have a SSG as the vehicle section leader.
  7. Re: Nazi Germany's Secret Plan to Bomb New York Your math is wrong. The acceleration would be 50 mph/sec, which 73.3 ft/sec^2, or 2.28 g. Also, earth escape velocity is MUCH more than 5300 mph.
  8. Re: Nazi Germany's Secret Plan to Bomb New York To achieve 12000 mph from rest in one continuous boost at 9g would require just over 130 km. So either it had a VERY long track or it was designed to go airborne and then accelerate up to max speed. I have always assumed the latter.
  9. Re: Space Marine Platoon Roster Are you using current USMC TO&E? If not, please specify what you are using. In fact, if you are using current TO&E, please specify it, because one I remember had 46 EM & 1 LT per platoon, and I know that is not current. At the risk of dating myself, the squad was 14, with 3 fire-teams of 4 each, a Squad Leader (E-5) and a Grenadier (E-3) with a M-79. The HQ had one officer and 4 EM.
  10. Re: I love me some xenomorphs! But what if they hold their breath? They can survive in vacuum for some time.
  11. Re: So....the Universe....Discuss! Hey, it's all relative anyway.
  12. Re: Science Fiction League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Yes, but it is a British interpretation of America!

  15. Re: In Future, Car Drive YOU I do not think it requires bravery as much as insanity. Or foolishness combined with ignorance.

  17. Re: Steampunk - Source Material Wow! But I couldn't identify half of them.

  19. Re: Xenomorphs vs Cobras The problem is that they system reacts too fast; an ego roll won't help.

  21. Re: The Great Movie Serials: any favorites? OK, that is disturbing.
  22. Re: Science Fiction League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Why?
  23. Re: Champions movie Actually, I had forgotten that. Thank you. Was it really 1983? I thought it was shortly after his appointment to the cabinet , which would be 1981.
