  1. i think i've seen : S.P.B. (Super-Powered Beings) in a old Gen-13 issue
  2. I forgot a case : Prof. Muerte IS dead but now there is four prof. Muerte : Kid Muerte Steel Muerte Cyborg Muerte and Krypton Muerte
  3. if i remember correctly, Scorpia stinged him with a poisoned blade and Feuermacher burnt him inside his armor. but i'm unsure but anyway to restore someone's life there's plenty (read too many) of ideas in the comics. remember " Villains are not dead til you see the corpse and even there" As misterdeath said - raised as something else after his death --> Muerte is dead but a clone and a braintape has been created before. --> undead --> demonic body/golem --> robot / I.A./cyborg --> simply resurrected by a higher(lesser) power - he was not really dead --> A clone/look-alike/robot was killed (destroyed) and the true Muerte is still alive. --> illusions/images --> a elaborated plot whose Scorpia and Feuermacher are secretly/inconsciously (through hypnosis/Mind control) part. --> "Last chance" teleport device inside his armor. - Someone else took the mantle --> A clone (but conscious of his nature) --> A hidden relative (son or better, daughter inside a male-looking armor, brother, pussycat, etc...) --> A lucky criminal/former associate --> Another Professor Muerte from a alternative reality/future - The timestream is strongly disrupted by a cosmic crisis on infinity of earths occuring at the zero-hour and Muerte has never died. -use the S.U.I.M. rule (Shut Up, It's Magic) D.
  4. does Doro gain some abilities from his host ? IMHO, you should use the "Shift spirit" power from hte old Horror Hero; very expensive (the power !) but useful. otherwise : maybe you can build Doro as a computer/spirit and the host as its small size vehicle (after all, the host is separately targeted by attackers, which fits the TUV rules ). Doro has its own abilities - (skills, INT, EGO) - mind link to the vehicle so has the host : - a VPP for skills/characteristics/Perks, only change according to host, must take all host non-psychologial disadvantages. - an inherent shapeshift for the external look. - the transfer itself can be a IPE teleport - to remove the next host from existence: ? a RKA, A EDM UAA ? With the vehicle rules i think you could do that for a correct amount of points ?
  5. A consideration came to me after the "DNPC tricks" thread I was wondering how many points you could add to the cost of a "hostile" DNPC. I mean that the PC needs to protect someone obviously and actively hostile to him (in the PC's most common ID). It can be used to simulate a child, orphan by PC's fault, taken in custody by him, as an example. In my case; i got a PC who became immortal (completly, with resurrection) when a strange girl somehow absorbed his soul inside her ( a la 3x3 eyes ). If this girl dies, the PC will die instantly (his resurrection weakness) so the PC has to protect her (so: DNPC). But she feels she's done a mistake and she's trying to "mortal" him back (which he doesn't want!). the player is claiming (rightfully, i think) that he should get more points for a hostile DNPC. So how much points, mr Long ? D.
  6. Really ? I think germans are a little bit tired to be portrayed as nazi villains. There's already that in Dark champions. Check "Divine" in Underworld Ennemies. (think) is there a nazi gay villain in GURPS I.S.T. ? if your player can take distance from his character why not ? but ask to the whole group before if everyone is comfortable with that (personally, i would not). As Winterhawk and Dcholmes said; it depends much of your group. As a comedian you probably never heard about said : "You can make fun of anything but not with anyone". I'm not really surprised by the "chop chop" thing from Acroyear because i had once a gay player who played a lesbian (X-Men's) Storm-like character and i often noticed that a lot of people from "minorities" liked to have fun of themselves. I currently have a gay muslim player in my team (his character is a three-eyed chinese teke) and i would never dare to introduce him to a "friendly skinhead-aryan brother" due to a "problem" he had some times ago with a bunch of skinheads in his neighborhood. so, see with your group ...

mmh, for german i cannot answer; i think we tend to use determiners if the word is of "too" common use in everyday conversation. and not to use determiners if the word/expression designs something really "specific" but frankly this is really personal feeling; (maybe it just sounds more pompous ?) i can find examples and counter-examples : determiners : Spiderman --> l'Araignée ("the spider") without X-men's Storm --> Tornade (without "la") X-Men's Cyclops --> Cyclope (wthout "le"). i got no special rules for that, just feeling. If you think about Batman's Doctor Freeze they once tried to translate it as Docteur Frisson (doctor Chill) (in the old series with Adam West) before they realize it sucked and used the original name. i go not "pretty" names for the combination doctor (ice-based them) Maybe Docteur Givre (doctor hoarfrost or doctor rime). ironically it's the name of one of my old teachers (i hope you will make him a villain)

Argh, i totally missed your post !! i'm sorry; i promised i will be flogging myself with freshly cut nettles tonight So : quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0813 - Chasseuse (French: Huntress) --> french for Huntress is "chasseresse" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK. Does Chasseuse mean Chaser (feminine)? ==> i didn't even know that this term eixsted before checking in the dictionary : apparently it's used to describe a woman practising hunting as a sport. Chasseresse is used more in a "romantic" way; it's the translation for Batman's Huntress. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1587 - Feu Boule (French: Fire Ball) --> Boule de feu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To my American ear, that sounds clunky. Does Boule de Feu sound like a decent superhero name to a native French speaker, or is it a lost cause? ==> well, i do think it sounds much better in english. Well, to have an spherical/flaming hero (head-itching interruption here) : - Feu Follet ? (Will'o the wisp) ? But frankly it's not because an hero is french that he cannot use a english name. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2073 - Homme de Gel, l' (French: Frost Man) 2074 - Homme de Glace, l' (French: Ice Man) 2075 - Homme de Magie, le (French: Man of Magic) --> it's syntaxically correct but it really sounds too bad in french. avoid hero names with "homme" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I thought that might be the case. Can you suggest a way to salvage these? ==>(head itching session but longer) For a frost-based character, words to consider are : - Froid (frost/cold) - Glace (Ice but also Ice cream/mirror) - Gel (Freeze but also gelly) - Hiver/hivernal (winter/wintry) I would suggest 2073 - Pierre-Fendre : means literaly "Stone"+"to crack/cleave". it comes from a old expression meaning " a stone-cracking cold" 2074 - ? - l'Hivernal (the wintry one) - (l')Ange de Glace : (the) ice angel - (l')Ange de l'Hiver : (the) angel of winter - (la) reine des glaces ((the) Ice queen ) those last two are both from swiss/alpine fairy tales 2075 - "Man of magic" ? sorry no idea of what you really want here. a mage ? magician? sorry ofr the late reply Altamaros
  9. I have a PC based on immortality with a interesting DNPC : The PC, a cop who is basically a clone of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) from the first "Lethal weapons" movies; one day tried to protect a strange chinese girl from a weird asian magician. He killed the guy but was mortally wound. The girl sucked his soul inside her to grant him immortality (self-only healing with limbs restauration and resurrection). So, the PC is basically able to build himself back from the "sausage meat" state. The problem is that the PC will die if the girl dies (this is his resurrection weakness from the healing rules and yes, i read 3x3 Eyes). So, he has to protect her but as she thinks she's done a big mistake by granting him immortality (she explained that by panic); she's constantly trying to find a way to "mortal" him back (something he doesn't want of course). usually their encounters turn around "i protect you" and "i confront you".
  10. Can a advantage, in a variable advantage pool, be used to complete a existing external advantage ? example : Energy blast :XD6 + 1/2 END +1/4 + Variable advantage (+1/2): +1 can i use the variable avantage to complete the END advantage to 0 END (and then, use the remaining 1/4 to something else) ? If yes: How can i manage a possible increase of cost from other advantages ? : Ex: if i want to use the above VA to put a "autofire" on my EB; the 1/2 END cost is supposed to increase to +1/2.
  11. I gonna try (i insist on "try") to make a little synthesis of that thread on "national theme" heroes. What we can note as recurrent aspects : a) the flag theme : The them of the "Incarnated flag" is commonly used in comics. first to make the costume more impressive/distinctive. Captain America has, of course a blue-red-white costume with stars and stripes. I can think also of Sabra (Israel, Marvel) with the David star; Batal (Syria, Marvel) or Red Star (USSR, DC) or VIndicator/Guardian(Canada, Marvel). Sometimes flags are also used as a way to demonstrate powers of some sort (Stars and Stripes in DC). Probably more likely to occur if the flag has a easily distinctive content (stars, stripes, birds, moon, sun) the national allegory theme : The hero is supposed to be the incarnation of a allegory of the nation in some sort : Uncle Sam (DC), John Bull, Marianne It could be used as the "father Winter" theme for Russia (aleready done in champions General Mayhem). I think this is more likely to occur in systems like republics where the identity of the state cannot be easily visualized in a single people (king/queen/Sheikh/emperor/pharoah). (of course, some can see it in the president/prime minister but it's something likely to change every 5/7/10 years; this is nto enough to really "embody" the state) c) the national pet theme : Heroes dresses or shows abilities of national animal symbols. I can remember at least 3 American Eagles from diffrents comics/games. Eagles, lions or dragons (in Asia) are common Eagle : USA, Germany (many others), Roman empire Lion : Nederlands, Venice (many others) Bear : Russia (used for Marvel's Ursa Major), Finland Lion And Unicorn : England (used at least once by Kurt Buziek in Astro City) but other possibilities exist : Rooster : France Dolphin: Malta Moose: Norway Ko Prei (Jungle Ox): Cambodia Boar : for Celts Brogla: Queensland etc.. d) the national plant: The most famous (i guess) is the irish Shamrock, used by Marvel, DC, Champions. I can also think of Tokyo Rose (DC's Kindom comes), Fleur de Lys (Champions), the maple leaf for Vindicator/Guardian etc... England : the Tudor Rose, the Scot Thistle Japan : The imperial chrysanthema. Nederlands: The tulip (not such a cheap symbol, i effectively remember a swashbuckling hero named the Black Tulip) Leabanon : The Cedar tree e) the national hero/father of the country/historic reference a very touchy subject IMHO. what a country may consider as an hero can be perceived by others as a monster/dictator and so on: the example of that are Dracula : in Romania, aside being a fictional character by Bram Stoker, Dracula is considered as a national hero for stopping the turkish invasion. And read also the news about Staline; people in Russia are still revering him as the savior of nation from nazis. Another example, ask a turk his opinon about Mustapha Kemal (Ataturk) and then, ask to a kurd ... That's why our euro bills have no personalities on them. even proposing artists like Cervantès, Voltaire or Goethe brought into polemic. To avoid polemic, a way is to take some reference distant in the past but there the risk is to totally miss the target (Italy would hardly recognize itself in Romulus and Remus). ( And speaking about national characters, i often see three characters from the american revolution setting : a flag-smasher, a drummer and a piper; are they legendary folks or real characters? , thanks to complete my personal culture) f) the national monument/building theme Sometimes seen ( Big Ben ?). i don't have real heores based on this theme in mind (except the "Big Ben" from Powerpuff girls/justice friends but, well ..., it's not really my reference as seriousness). Someone sees anything else ? Daniel
  12. I fear it's too late for a new power but : parasitic duplication : ability to duplicate self (really duplicate no summoning) by infecting other people (or corpses).
  13. Re: Foreign Icons I agree (sheesh, i've used my nationality more than ever on this forum) As a french, i think Marianne should be the national symbol i would support : for a picture (from Delacroix): here (except than i don't think she would fight crime showing her tits to everybody, or treat it as a PRE attack ) I remember i once tried to create a trio based on flag and motto : Liberté (liberty: blue) : a teleport/escape artist Egalité (Equality: white): a adjuster (based on Mirror from Allies) Fraternité (Fraternity: red) : a mentalist but the result sucked so much that i gave up.
  14. and it doesn't : (the) red feet : (les) pieds rouges (the) red feat : (l')exploit rouge sorry. Daniel
  15. well, tell me exactly what means "red feat" and i will give you a translation (i'm french). i understand what is a feat and the colour red but i don't see if "red feat" has another (slang ? )signification in english. there is so many things we cannot forgive to each other (like letting Ronald Mc Donald run loose in innocent, unprotected foreign countries) But whatever: i do agree with Storn about skintights : it's a convention of the genre. The last character complaining about spandex i remember is Jenny Sparks in Wildstorm's Authority. For european supers as a whole, I would just say that they would more likely join government( or corporation or organisation .. )-sponsored teams. In Europe, the "personal justice" (or initiative ) feeling as a whole is much weaker than in U.S. so supers would be less prone to act by themselves without sanction and would more likely seek official support; although some vigilantes like Fleur de Lys (origin linked to extreme prejudice to a person) are likely like anywhere else.

I just correct a few spelling and translations As Doug MacRae said it's a brand of cigarettes. You can use "les Gitans" (means exactly the same thing; "les gitanes" would indicate a female-only group I just help for translations in french of some english words if it can help. Roundup 0382 - Bette Noire (French: Black Beast) -> right spelling is "Bête noire" 0589 - Bouc (French: Scapegoat) --> Bouc just means goat translation for scapegoat is "bouc emissaire" (litt Emissary goat) 0813 - Chasseuse (French: Huntress) --> french for Huntress is "chasseresse" 1340 - Dragon-ciel (French: Sky Dragon) --> I know it's a official NPC but the name doesn't mean anything. i don't have any satisfying way to translate that in a nice way : Sky dragon would litteraly be "dragon du ciel" (but it sounds ugly) or dragon celeste (celestial dragon). Anyway he's dead so who cares ? 1550 - Fantôme, la (French: Phantom) --> grammary problem : Le fantome ("la" is female, the word "fantome" is male gender) 1587 - Feu Boule (French: Fire Ball) --> Boule de feu. 1710 - Fusion 1711 - Fusionne, la (French: Fusion) --> the correct translation is "la Fusion" which is too close from the previous IMHO 1747 - Gaul (France in Roman era) --> Gaule but i would not suggest you to use that name "avoir la gaule" (to have the G.") is a french slang expression to errr... describe the fact that a man is in a state of sexual excitation. (i don't joke) 2073 - Homme de Gel, l' (French: Frost Man) 2074 - Homme de Glace, l' (French: Ice Man) 2075 - Homme de Magie, le (French: Man of Magic) --> it's syntaxically correct but it really sounds too bad in french. avoid hero names with "homme" 3050 - Monsieur Diamont (French: Mister Diamond) --> Monsieur Diamand 4939 - Triomphe, la (French: Triumph) --> Le Triomphe (male gender) cheers D.
  17. can I use cramming for familiarities as a whole : Transport, weapon, animal etc.. ? D.
  18. I would say : a BIG power pool with limitations on change - only change when leaves current host -1/2 or -1 ? - only for physical attributes buy them as usual. For the power: - regeneration from death - megascale teleport with fixed trigger, Fully Invisible PE and Limited CC You could also try the "shift spirit" power from "Horror Hero". D.
  19. Re: What Would (your character here) Do? My character Copycat (a (X-MEN's) Mystique-like character) would probably secretly give a call to Nebula (without telling it to the other PCs) and let her sentence the dude to Duress. And then, complaint about her vigilante style of justice. (no, my PC is not very heroic, he/she is efficient)
  20. If a character has n Duplicates without the advantage "altered duplicates"; that basically means : all the character points are affected the same way on all dupes. does it also include SFX ? i.e. if Season Man has 4 dupes (winter, summer, spring, autumn) can Winter has a EB w/cold SFX and summer the same EB with heat SFX ?
  21. a) Is it possible to take the NND advantage for tunneling ? (basically allows the tunneler to go through anything except the defined defense) One of my players wants to create that to simulate a "merge with matter" power. Daniel
