  1. Re: Breaking Personality Stereotypes for the Archetypes I had the idea of a "fake" patriot for the superpowered Village People some of you helped me through a couple of months ago : Cloudwalker is a energy projector with weather powers (lightning blasts, mist, winds ...). Visually, he is a tall winged tanned man, dressed as an indian chief with leather trousers, pearl necklace and the classical big feathered cap. (see the indian in the VP ?) The only problem is that Cloudwalker is not a native american but a hispanic; he just happened to be at the wrong place at the worng time and an ancient force bestowed him the power (only reason of that : the force was entrapped in a indian tomb and there wasn't any native american candidate available close). Basically, imagine some national/ethnic values having to be defended for one reason or the other by a foreigner/stranger. or someone having to defend ideals he/she doesn't belong to.
  2. Hi, i'm trying to organize the advantages in different categories. the purpose is to offer to new players (which i'm currently dealing with) a easier-to-understand panel of the different advantages of the game. here is the first draft : i would be grateful if some people could help through suggestions/opinions/comments/etc... a) "counter-protection" advantages - Affects Desolid - Armor-piercing - AVLD - NND - Penetrating "Duration/Sustaining" advantages - Continuous - Persistent - Inherent - Uncontrolled - Difficult to dispel c) "Triggering/Delaying" advantages - Delayed effect - Time Delay - Trigger d) "Zone and extension of effects" advantages - Area of effect - Explosion - Hole in the middle - Megascale - Sticky - Usable on others e) "Range/reach" advantages - Increased max.range - Indirect - Line of sight - No range modifier - Ranged - Transdimensional f) "attack modes" advantages - Autofire - Based on ECV - Damage shield - Does Body - Does knockback - Double knockback - Invisible power effects g) "others" - Reduced END cost - Variable special effects - Variable advantages
  3. Brick : CAT-erpillar, the mechanical cat (stop the tomatoes please!) Machairodont, Dinofelis ? (subgenders of prehistoric cats) Energy projector: for female NPC : Sekhmet (lion-goddess of heat/fire in egypt) Clouded panther (with darkness powers?) Korat (a race of cat from thailand); this race is supposed to be able to call rain. (weather-related powers) Martial artist Manekineko ("lucky cat"): it's the cat statuette, symbol of prosperity, you can see in every asian restaurant. I don't know the term chinese use for the same thing. Metamorph ? do you want a werecat or something a la Mystique ? Mystic "Magic Paw", "Witch-Cat", "graymalkin" are obvious. extract from a site about japanese myths : "Cats were supposed to grow up to become nekomata, or "goblin cats", unless their tails were cut off. When it grew older, a cat could become an obaké-neko, or literally "ghost cat", as well as any cat that had been mistreated." powered armor There's a Bronze Tiger in every universe (including in Champions 4th, see one of the Dark Champions SB "Justice not Law" IIRC). Golden Cat ? Kitty-Hawk ? (flying armor with a Wright brothers theme) weaponmaster/gadgeteer why not someone using cat toys as weapons (strings of wool as strangling ropes/entangles, balls, mechanical mouses etc...) , cat-mobile, cat-plane, etc... Patriot : take some domestic cat race, a lot have a name related to a country and/or culture : Persian; siamese, Burma, etc... My personal favorite is "Russian Blue". (and for inspiration for the feline crimelords behind the team, just rent "Cats & dogs" )
  4. Hi For the lims, some personal suggestions : Psy. lim. - maybe a bit of overconfidence (remember how he talks to Gograh Sr ? or the way he tries to blast Atoman's door). Soc lim. - "Subject to orders" ? as every police officer ... I wonder if Toybox (or Scholastic) could be considered a DNPC. BTW. about Top Ten; i'm still thinking about creating a PC investigator with Synesthesy's powers. if anyone has some ideas ...
  5. Re: Help me build this honestly, i don't think so. example of unique power with 15" 1) One unique power Flight 15" - OIF or restrainable (or both for Hawkman) : -1/2 Act cost : 30 Real cost : 20 0 END, uncontrolled for flight (+1: 30 active points) - OIF (AG belt): -1/2 - only to float: -1/2 Act cost : 30 Real cost : 15 Total cost : 35 2) Two separate powers on the other hand Flight 1 Flight 15" - OIF: jet pack, wings, whatever: -1/2 Act cost : 30 Real cost : 20 Floating flight 5" + 0END +1/2 + Uncontrolled: -1/2 + triggered (when character falls unconscious): +1/4 - OIF (AG belt): -1/2 - only to float: -1/2 Act cost : 22 Real cost : 11 total cost 31. Basically the construct 1 is better if you have less than 10" of flight and the construct 2 is better if you have more than 10" of flight.
  6. It depends on too many factors : - the plot of your scenario - the powers available to the PCs - the mood of the players. - etc... In my "Suicide Squad" campaign, our last scenario had a ratio around 5% combat ( less than 1hr in a 16hr long scenario). Most of our PCs having non-offensive powers (but we're great infiltrators) im my Dark champions campaigns, it tends to go around 60% RPG/40% cbt
  7. Re: Special Vision I would consider the character can use it as will. the fact that a character cannot turn the vision off could represent a -0 limitation (it makes him more vulnerable to sense-affecting powers but it allows to make PER rolls while sleeping as an example). As a rule of thumb, you may consider that active senses are basically usable at will and that passive senses are permanently on. In specific cases (i'm thinking about raistlin's curse in Drangonlance) the fact that you cannot turn the sense off could even become a physical/social limitation.
  8. Hi, prince of the Universe Interesting work My suggestions from my own notes about the thing: Life Support maybe you could take "expanded breath: no need to breath" but with the limitation it doesn't protect from gaz effects. There's a contradiction between movies and series (and in the serie itself) : Ernst Daimler ("Mortal sins") is trapped underwater for 40 years and claims he drowned and drowned again all the time he stayed there. On the other hand, Kit O'Brady ("Double Eagle") said he survived to a shipwreck without problems, so do Duncan when he's thrown overboard ("Vendetta" the ep. with Benito Carbassa) off a ship. Maybe you could also add "immunity to intense cold" Regeneration The healing is fine. althoug 1D6 Body per minute seems to be low (play test combats) to simulate the ability to endure damage maybe you could use Body +10 - Only to stave off point of death: -1/2 - goes off at first damage done to neck, only returns when full body is regenerated: -1 Immortal senses Like Derek, i'm not fond of the Danger sense but i don't think it should be entirely a disadv : it's not clearly stated in the movie but in the serie, some immortals seem to feel their kin with more or less accuracy. ex1 : meeting Mako/Duncan ("Under color of authority"): Duncan senses Mako long before Mako senses Duncan. ex2 : David Keogh ("Obsession") seems to be able to evaluate the age of an immortal when he senses her. other immies cannot do that. So the immortals should have the sense. The DF is IMHO already covered by the "hunted". Detect other immortals * sense * ranged (or mental sense group) * 360° Some may have * Discriminatory, Analyze * Telescopic * Targeting(?) * etc... Detect holy ground is a nice touch, i didn't think about that. For the individual powers, see at the end. The perks : - "Money" seems to be popular among immies - as well as "Deep cover" - and contacts (at least one othe immortal) Talents - Simulate death - maybe eidetic memory. Skills see accordingly to each individual but i would suggest a "personal history" power pool (no more than 10 Act points) "Personal history" 10 power pool : [10 points] 7 control. + 0 phase to change: +1 - Restricted to "old" skills: -1/2 (or more) 3 INT roll to change (SFX : flashback) Penalty levels : to hit neck locations Disadvantages ok for the hunted. the psy lim "Must fight Immortal duels one-on-one" should be part of the bigger Psy. lim. : Psy lim : "immortal code": (Common, Strong) includes : - "mortals must not know" (yeah, except loved ones) - "Must fight Immortal duels one-on-one" - "In the end there can be only one" - "respect holy ground" (or can be a phy lim.). - "if someone sees you die, get out by the back door". I don't think the flashback are phy lim. they don't seem to impair anyone ever but in a couple of issues, immortals seem to be "haunted" by the immortals they killed before (K'oltec, Richie in "Haunted"). Physical limitation: "occasionally haunted by killed immortals": Uncommon, slight: 5 pts As the first cut ot the neck is usually the last one (Kurgan is an exception) : 20 Vulnerability : killing attacks on neck: Body x2 (Common for an immie). (with the regular hit location multiple, it's Body x4 for damage to head now) Ramirez just rolled a 2 Body on his damage roll IMHO and Kurgan may have more than 10 Body. Due to this vulnerability the neck retains damage (see Kurgan and Kalas). Individual powers: Empower weapon (in the movies and the first ep of the serie) Aid (Succor) HKA : 2D6 [10] + 0 END +1/2 - Only on edged weapon: -0 - Only if opponent is an immortal: -1/4 SFX: the sword releases sparks of electricity each time it strikes. Kurgan's "I take a full wagon of bullets and i laugh" Damage reduction, physical 50% - Not for edged attacks to neck :-1/4 Cassandra & Kantos : "the Voice" 32 Mind control: 8D6 + AVLD flash Defense (hearing): +3/4 + 1/2 END: +1/4 - 1/2 DCV concentrate :-1/4 - Stops working if mentalist is stunned: -1/2 - not through mind link: -1/4 - doesn't provide mental awareness: -1/4 - Incantations: -1/4 Cassandra : "shriek" 12 darkness vs hearing group : * non-targeting sense group [5] * radius +5" [25] - 0 DCV concentration througout: -1 - No range: -1/2 Cassandra & the Ermit : Prophecy 14 Claisentience (sight and sound) [30] * Precognitive [20] - Precognitive only: -1 - Vague: -1/2 - No conscious control: -1 Hermann Kuyler : "i love Absynth" 5 LS: Immunity: Absynth Nefertiri: "i'm a three thousand year old egyptian mummy girl and i speak english" (yes, it's a lame attempt to correct a bullshit but... ) 20 Universal translator Rebecca Horne : "Methuselah crystal" All IAF, Independent: LS: Immortality [complete: 5 pts] LS: Immunity to diseases [10 pts] LS: Immunity to poisons [10 pts] Healing 1D6 Body + 0 END + Persistent - Extra time: 1 turn. Armor : 10 PD + IPE (sight group)+1/2 (SFX: the bearer just doesn't take the damage.) total : 19 points John Garrick : "Dreams" 24 Mind scan: 12D6. - must achieve "invisible to target" and +10 effect: -1/2 - 0 DCV throughout: -1 27 Mental Illusions: 12D6 - 0 DCV throughout: -1 - Only through mind scan: -1/4 K'oltec : "taking the darkness" roughly the same write up except a automatic side effect "transform:healer to evil immortal". Sean Burns : hypnosis: 22 Mental illusions 8D6 + 1/2 END +1/4 - must achieve effect+10: -1/4 - eye contact required: -1/2 - 0 DCV concentration: -1/2 22 Mind control 8D6 + 0 END: +1/2 - must achieve effect+10: -1/4 - eye contact required: -1/2 - 0 DCV concentration: -1/2 - linked w/mental illusions: -1/2 Kronos : "your tricks won't work on me" 10 Mental Defense +10 5 Flash Defense (hearing): 10 - Only vs sound-based mind control: -1 Cory Raines : "dynamite hurts" 40 Damage reduction: Energy 75% - Body only: -1/2
  9. Re: No Mass Change its a linked Density Increase, i think. there was a character like that in Champions of the North IIRC. something like 20 Shrinking (2 levels) (at min size mass is divided by 64) Act cost: 20 Real cost: 20 Density Increase (6 levels : to increase the mass 64 times) Linked w/Shrinking: -1/4 (other power is constant) No STR increase: -1/2 Act cost: 30 Real cost: 17 pts the rule for "linked" says the linked power should be used proportionally to the power whom it's linked to. But i would not personally find too abusive to add a -1/4 (or -0) limitation "only to keep personal mass constant"
  10. I would probably charge a -0 limitation for that : Ennemies cannot perceive you : OK, regular thing. Friends can perceive you : good thing for you, obviously Mind-controlled friends can perceive you ... oops ! along with people using clairsentience "through the senses of others". so basically, i should not consider this neither a advantage nor a limitation. otherwise maybe you can take the regular Invisibility power (without any selective stuff) and then add : "hello, i'm over here!" Images vs sight group and hearing group, 1" [15 base points] + 0 END +1/2 + uncontrolled +1/2 - set effect (image of self, own voice) -1/2 - no range -1/2 - only affects friends and allies -1/2 - linked with invisibility -1/4( -1/2 ? i never recall the cost of "linked") Base points : 15 points Active points : 30 points Real points : 11 points (or 10 points) Hope this helps
  11. checked : it's Grégoire; probably a mistape in the subtitles. aside that, Mike, i'm eager to see the write-up for Sylvia and her fan. ( I also GM 7th Sea and your work will probably give me some ideas)
  12. impressive Mike (like always ) I tried to dig hard and deep to find errors but i couldn't. The only thing i see is that Fronsac's first name should be spelled "Gregory" (i think it was Grégoire in the original version, unsure ...) The beast itself could probably be built as a lion or a tiger with some armor OIF and HKA Damage shield OIF.
  13. The others came with good ideas. - putting him in a place that completly kills/entangle him, fin an ennemy, etc... You may also consider the opportunity of "Transform" him through a continuous transform with an independent focus (costs XP but definitive) or trying to read his thoughts to learn his weaknesses. Some personal thought : "was most annoyed but couldn't/wouldn't gate to our world. We where told he'd find a way to make us come to him" He could open gates but could not use them himself ?? that could imply that he can only resurrect in his own universe ... (only problem, if i'm wrong and if you bring him somewhere else then this world will be doomed)
  14. I thought the couples were : Chronos : time Rhea : nature Okeanos : Ocean Tethys : waters Coeus/coeos : the night sky Phoebe : the moon Iapetus : Wisdom Themis : Law, Justice Crius/Crios : Thought, intelligence Mnemosyne : Memory Hyperion : Sun Theïa : Light i remember that from a very old issue of DC's Teen Titans in which the original greek titans were released from Tartarus. (circa 1984)
  15. Several issues in your team : first : conflicts between characters (judge/former criminal) No miracle pill: i have in one of my current settings (kind of "super White Wolf" world) a character who is a demon-hunter [psy-lim: hates demons (strong) ] and a alchemist, immortal thanks to a demon trapped in his body (multiform, one with a VPP, other is classic brick). the first minutes of the game were awful, fortunately the players are very good friends and found themselves a way to deal with it) Suggestion : make the judge think that he is something like a moral ground for the reformed criminal. Weak stats : see the good side : with low speed, the fights will be quicker. my suggestion would be to make them fight a test combat with a random villain from CKC (not Dr D.; someone on 350 points) and then have a debriefing all together after. That should give them some ideas about team tactics and character compatibilities I would like to say that i had this idea for my current group but they asked for it themselves : all of them are veteran shadowrunners and they wanted to know how things were running before building defintive characters. The gadgeteers and their gadgets : count the game time as real time for the purpose of building their gadgets : i.e. tell the players : "ok, dude; Factory* can build a new gadget in less than one phase in game time; that means that during the fight, i will let you exactly ten seconds to design the power in game terms" that should bring them to think about their gadgets during the other players' actions. (Factory was a gadgeteer character in one of my oldest campaigns) And you have the write up for the clown, i'm interested (fan of Astro City's Jack-in-the-Box)
  16. What kind of tone should have your campaign ? (dark, four-colors?) What kind of characters do you have at the table ? (on the background level) are they so incompatible ? i had this kind of problem at my very first Champion game as a GM : i was planning to bring the characters into a "School for gifted youngsters" as teachers. For some reasons, they actually attacked the school and almost destroy it (don't ask me how ! )
  17. Maybe you should also check the "environmental movement" talent to give him Environmental movement: ice and snow
  18. That could be an interesting adventure/campaign plot. Something like that has been done in a serie named "Arcanum" (Image) a few years ago. The armageddon/mahapralaya/ragnarok/etc... is about to come; the differents avatars/concepts/archetypes/atavisms/etc... choose vessels/inheritors of the mantle/champions/etc... for the battle to come : the heroes and villains. only problems : - some villains are now on the "good" side; some heroes are now on the "bad" side - all powers are leveled up. knowing that they will fight each other there could imply a lot of collateral damage. - Some "rivalries" might come ("Me alone deserved to be the Avatar of Modesty !!!". - nobody thought about giving informations to the new avatars. - etc .. (read : "anything vicious that could come in a GM's mind") - all the questions about "the day after the last judgement"
  19. Hello it's a basic issue but i didn't find any reference to it. What's the nature of (resistant) DEF of a entangle. i.e. does the entangle take damage from a drain or a AVLD vs Power Defense, does body attack. this is the same issue for Flashs and AVLD vs Flash Defense (aside the "stops given sense" adder). how to apply the DEF of the Entangle in that case ? is it ignored ?
  20. I agree with C.A. for Tomstone kid. IIRC Jaeger had light-based powers; invisibility, laser RKA or EB. Maybe you could use a weaponmaster named El Gaucho or El Huaso (Chilian version of the gaucho), give him a gun or two and some trick-bolos (the archclassical : explosives, flashs, entangle is obvious, taser, etc...) as Prof. Muerte is a techie (i gues, i never saw his character sheet). He could be his supplier.
  21. I think there's two ways to do that : the cheapest is to use Enhanced Senses Detect Infra/Ultra-sounds (it' in the book) * affected to hearing sense group * Sense * Transmit (that should be 7 points, i don't hav my book with me) the most expensive would be to remove the "transmit" adder above and buy Images vs Ultra-Sound perception. (which i don't like)
  22. The first one occured to me several years ago. It was a game called "Bloolust" (never translated to english; imagine a world like Conan the Barabarian's where all the characters are the wielders of sentient immortal weapons). GM (me, trying to put a feeling of barbary in the scene) : The battle is now over ... the battlefield is almost completly silent now, scents of burnt flesh and blood ... hacked corpses lying around ... crows and ravens are beginning to land to get their part of the sinister feast to come ... you slowly came to each other, driven by your weapons. (to PC-1) You see (PC-2) at a distance, he's waving a arm at you ... PC-1 : eerr ... one of his arms ? GM : ... The second one occured in a Champions game some months ago : Plot : In a Theater, the big bad guy was opening the arch-classical portal-to-the-place-with-leatherwinged-ugly-critters-with-claws. A part of the team was trying to evacuate the public while the other part was fighting the avant-guard (a reddish minotaur with scent of sulphur). Grendel (2 meter high wolverine with a strength of 40) takes knockback from a blow and is projected several hexes away from his ennemy; -not even stunned thanks to his Dam. Reduction.- GM (to Grendel) : the blow sends you almost to the other side of the theater; you crash on the floor just aside of a terrified old lady (mimic of a old lady frightened scream) (Grendel's player, checking his sheet and noting that he would need a full move to reach his opponent now) Grendel (to the GM) : how much damage can make a li'l old lady ? GM (and other players) : ??? Grendel (explaining) : as a missile ...
  23. Re: English to Eastern Language Translations For chinese at least, i rely solely on this one : http://www.zhongwen.com/ hope this helps
  24. Group I Bishop (adjuster) will try to locate the Telepath through his mental awareness, targeting, 360°, N-Ray (concentration 0 DCV on all that) waiting for a use of mental power. Meanwhile, 3-Clops (three-eyed telekinetic) and the Phantom Arrow (weaponmaster w/bow) will probably use their range attacks (armor-piercing EB and armor-piercing HKAs) to attack the giant robot. Sword (martial artist w/guesswhatweapon?) is hiding, waiting for a signal from Bishop, once done, he will start his invisibility and move to attack the mentalist (directly using HKAs) about leaving Impulse alive, i know them well enough that they will threaten to kill him to force his girlfriend to show up. Group II Mirage (Cyberpath w/gadgets) will build a Mental Defense headband (KS:Psychic engineering) while Grendel (imagine Wolverine with a strength of 40 and Dam red.) will catch the attention of the robot. Then, Mirage will reprogram the robot with his powers. Once done, Grendel (helped with the robot) will deal with the henchmen (Slicing time!) Meanwhile Troubles (mentalist) will try to locate/(eventually oppose) the mentalist through Mental awareness or Mind scan, giving informations to Zatsu Sei Ni ("Spirit of Mystery", sentient gaseous cloud) and Copycat (shapeshifting martial artist) Once done, the team will attack the mentalist as follow: first Zatsu Sei Ni, invisible and desolid use its toxic attack (NND EB , affects real world) to choke the mentalist, Troubles blats her mentally and Copycat (probably taking the shape of Impulse) will attack her physically. They would never kill any of them except if there is a bounty on that (they're merc heroes).
