  1. Interesting, I'll have to pick that up.
  2. Oh, I'm not surprised ? The nature of random encounter tables in general is such that they should be taken with a grain of salt. I was just hoping that we could at least come up with a threat levels for them but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
  3. Does anyone have any idea why the following villains have no threat rating? Also, what should their threat ratings be??? Bayok Bloodrage Josiah Brimstone Bromion Freakshow Lampliter Mother Gothel El Salto Attack Orb
  4. Thanks for the suggestions, I've incorporated them into the document
  5. Alright, I went through Champions Villains: V3 and put together a little proof of concept check out post #2 in the thread
  6. Wow, they have some neat products Thanks for the heads up...I think I'll work on the tables using this tool and probably end up baking it into the app at some point. People can use whichever tool they want to generate an encounter that way.
  7. Those are great ideas. It makes sense to sub-divide villains by threat levels...that would allow the GM to tailor the encounter a bit. Agencies could also be subdivided to represent how many agents and/or strength of ordinance they have. It doesn't make sense to specify actual numbers for agencies though...GMs would have to use their discretion based in the player group power level. Master villains should probably be left out of the lists by default...perhaps with an option to include them. Those types of encounters lend themselves to a multi-session games and seem. Phil
  8. I'll keep the most up to date table here. You'll need to download Inspiration Pad Pro in order to play around with the generator. This only supports solo villains currently. Supports Solo, Team, and Master villains now as well as villainous organizations. Champions Encounters.ipt
  9. I was reading through Eureka today and thought that in would be really cool to have something like this for Champs. I know personally, when I'm strapped for game ideas I like to roll player Hunteds and see what comes together but it would be handy if we had a resource that was a little beefier. I'm also looking for something new to possibly add to the HERO System Mobile app and this seems like it would be fun to do and in a similar spirit as the random character generator. At any rate, some ideas bouncing around in my head... Rolls would be across multiple tables The first table would be the general type of encounter Solo villain (the table would have a list of solo villains) Group of villains (again, a list of villain teams would be on this table) Agency (as above, a list of villainous agencies on this table) Gang/Mob Coordinated combination (roll again) Uncoordinated combination (roll again) Rival combination (roll again) The next table you would roll on is the general motivation of the crime Power grab Monetary Spread chaos/power trip Unintentional confrontation ... The last table would be the location table City core City outskirts Research lab Government facility University ... The last 2 tables need more fleshing out Obviously, some combinations may seem funny like rolling a bank heist for Grond may be a bit of stretch but if nothing else the tool would be good for brainstorming I figure. If anyone is interested in fleshing this out with me let's work together in this thread. Phil
  10. Healing is relatively rare in comics AFAIK but exceedingly common in computer games these days and good old D&D. I recently ran a game (in another system) where a player was mad that her heals had a prep time associated with them that made them useless in combat. She wanted to spam heals like it was World of Warcraft but the system just wasn't built that way. For the record, I compromised by saying that she could use her heals as a single action by making a regular activation roll at an increased difficulty. I'm not a monster after all ?
  11. You could also consider Charges as an option. Not that I think the root issue here is the power, seems like a player mentality issue.
  12. Over the past month I have been working on a cross platform app called the OpenD6 Toolkit. My intention with the app is to allow people to play OpenD6 games and its variants from a mobile device as well as provide useful tools for players and GMs alike. I’m pleased to report that OpenD6 Toolkit is now available via the following app stores: Google Play Store Apple App Store Amazon App Store The project is open sourced and hosted on github here. Features Die roller Supports both classic and Legend styles of rolling Statistics are also tracked on your dice Character tools Select a template to build your character from Automatically calculates your point cost Supports the three base genres out of the box (Adventure, Fantasy, Space) Supports all options (Advantages, Complications, Special Abilities) Save/Load/Delete characters Game Templates The app supports custom game templates that may be used to build characters There is a companion project for sharing templates here Custom templates means you can support games that use the Mini Six ruleset easily Let me know what you think of the work so far. Thanks! Phil
  13. It honestly sounds like your game and the players are incongruent with one another. That type of behavior is par for the course in a Dark Champions game IMO but completely out of bounds in a regular Champions game. As Stan stated I would murder them in the court of public opinion and they will very quickly find themselves on the wrong side of the law. There is a great many things you can do to them that will make their lives difficult. The real question is: what's it worth to you? If this isn't going to be fun for you then call it, it ain't worth it
  14. Do any of these characters have a Heroic Code of Ethics? This sounds like a Dark Champions game...maybe you're playing the wrong genre for the group? The mage was metagaming and being a jerk IMO.
  15. Maybe start using the optional rules for impairment and state that though the BODY may be healed the impairment will not. They may not care either way tbh some players are just like that.
  16. I've always longed for a really good FF7 inspired game with swords and sorcery alongside magitech devices. I feel like there would be widespread appeal because it's really a blend of the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Really, it has already proven itself as having mass appeal with audiences as evidenced by the original game, the animated movie, and now the remake of the game. The movie may have been meh, but the game is an absolute classic. There are many types of conflict that could be explored as in the game itself and a diverse set of characters that could be built. Mage, cleric, gunslinger, golem pilot, technomage, Gadgeteer, monk, Oracle, Summoner, Mage-Knight to name a few that I can think of off the top of my head ?. Then there's races...so many possibilities....
  17. This is definitely in the wrong forum...check out the HERO System Discussion forum for sage advice re: power building. My personal way of building your power is to use a Ranged Killing Attack with a limitation of only vs Steel (1/2). Simple and too the point.
  18. Try using keyboard shortcuts. On Windows it's Ctrl+c to copy and Ctrl+v to paste
  19. That's an interesting idea...if you use HAPs a critical hit could reward one. Gives the player a chance to decide on how to use their extra success.
  20. I think I'm lazy or something My go to crit rule is rolling 3 ones...automatically hits and does maximum damage. I'm not generally a big fan of systems that do x2 or more multipliers on crits (especially when crits are 5% or more of the time). Maximum damage is a lot in HERO and rarely seen like in other games where you're rolling something like a 1d8 (12.5%) vs a 12d6 blast (0.0000000459393657998%). Additionally, giving players 2x damage in HERO ends up being quite a bit, even on an average roll (assuming 3.5 per die) a 12d6 attack ends up being 84 vs a flat 72 if you just say max. If they roll well it gets crazy....
  21. Well, it's more like it's easier to do certain things like say make someone who's a good brawler without having a huge Dex or CSLs. You can make a brick that can know how to throw a punch but not necessarily be able to avoid them (high OCV low DCV). Not that you couldn't do that in earlier editions it's just easier.
  22. I was skeptical of the decoupling in 6th as well and I can honestly say that I like it now that I've used it. It actually opens up some interesting build options. Ymmv but that's my .02 cents ?
  23. I remember back in the day we started using random critical hit/critical fumbles table and my Fighter cut his own arm off on a fumble. He was eventually retired after we found out what it would cost to have it regrown (we were only level 7 and strapped for cash). D&D was where I learned never to let the dice rule the game. There's a reason why the "GM Screen" is a thing after all
  24. I've received a handful of bug reports over the last few months of people having issues loading the characters into the app...here are some observations about the issue: I currently believe that DropBox does NOT work as a loading location Google Drive and iCloud seem to be the most reliable way to load a character Some android phones have been sketchy with loading from the phone directly I helped someone with a Samsung Note that kept getting a permission error when trying to load from the local file system There may be more phones affected by this bug I think that reading from and SD card may be an issue I could use some help on points 1 and 4 to verify that they are indeed broken if anyone is feeling bored Thanks for the bug reports!
  25. Following up via email. If anyone has any bug reports, comments, or concerns regarding the app or export template please message me directly at phil.guinchard@gmail.com or post in this thread: https://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/96734-hero-system-mobile/
