  1. Kavanaugh voted with the left this week. https://www.newsweek.com/fox-news-brett-kavanaugh-supreme-court-liberal-justices-1424286 This is a good sign, imo, as it means he's ruling in favor of what he believes is lawful and is not playing sock puppet to the left or right.
  2. Jon becomes king after he or Arya put the mad queen out of her misery.
  3. Almost exactly my thoughts on it. I really enjoyed it, but I won't watch it 4-5+ times like I did the first one. It is a fantastic finale to the series. Very well done and the upgrade to Time Travel thinking was great. I've felt like that was the correct way for decades now and its the first film that didn't have all the time paradox issues of Time Cop and Back to the Future.
  4. I wasn't weighing in on the COM vs. Striking Appearance joust as much as pointing out an interesting factoid on how reacting to extreme beauty has a strong physiological component and not just a psychological complication. Not sure on the cost of being taller or shorter, but I hope it's really low, because I'm shrinking with age and I'd like to buy my 1.5" of height back....
  5. That's a solid thought as well. Perhaps, the entire story is that of Jon Snow and he alone is the Song of Ice and Fire. That doesn't bode well for Daenerys.
  6. This could be (and literally is) a physical complication. Most mens brains will turn to mush in the presence of a sufficiently attractive female who is showing signs of interest. I can't recall the exact study, but the men in this situation are more impaired than someone at the legal limit for blood alcohol.
  7. Whoo, boy, I just had a really twisted thought. I just thought about how Jon was supposed to be the Ice in the song of ice and fire. But, he's a Targaryen, so he's equally capable of being fire. What if Arya kills Danny and Jon marries one of the Stark girls when he takes the throne?
  8. This last episode had the dragon vs. ballista combat go more like I thought it would. Holy crap is Danny going overkill. The scenes with the dragon sweeping back and forth over the city like some Diablo 3 player lawnmowing a map to get all the xp and gold possible was just nuts. Like, You won an hour ago just leave some civilians to rule over! The formation of a reluctant alliance of betrayers was pretty clear. Jon Snow and Tyrion both realize she's too nutty to leave alive at this point. Since Hound vs. Mountain didn't play out like I had hoped for my new wish list item for the gods of HBO is that Jon takes the throne by commanding Drogon to obey him. Also, I want at least 1 scene were Jon gets absolutely immolated - preferably by dragon fire - and walks out unharmed.
  9. Firstly, I'll say that I like having COM as a stat. I enjoyed using it in the "good old days". It was cheap and was a nice way to separate the beauty of your character from their personality. Secondly, I'm leery of adding any more mechanics to a game that has as a primary player deterrent - Too many rules and mechanics. I poach most of my players from D&D tables so it's easier not having that stat in play since they are used to CHA which functions identically to PRE in most regards.
  10. That's probably 15-20 years out of date. They've done heavy statistical analysis using inter-correlation to remove culturally biased questions. Essentially, if they spot that members of a specific culture are doing worse on specific questions compared to other groups - they fix or remove the question.
  11. Sounds like a job for the Myth Busters!
  12. My understanding of the literature suggests that the theories behind "different kinds of intelligence" have been disproved. Link below, but summary: It's egalitarian feel-good non-sense. It's popular, but has no research backing it up. There are differences in much smaller areas like math, verbal ability, spatial reasoning, etc., but none of the areas in the popular "multiple intelligences" idea. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/unique-everybody-else/201311/the-illusory-theory-multiple-intelligences
  13. They are one of the most highly tested and vetted long-term efforts anywhere. Dismissing IQ tests after 100+ years of testing and refinement borders on the absurd. If you measure IQ and the psychological trait Conscientiousness (basically work ethic) you have a tremendously good tool for determining long term success. Anyway, back on topic. Most verifiable stats, imo: STR - Can easily run someone through common strength tests to get a very good picture of overall strength. World strongman competition is a good example. INT - IQ testing is fantastic Other stats would be difficult or blur into other areas. Like measuring for dexterity. Reaction time has a 0.2 - 0.3 correlation to IQ.
  14. If you're keeping it simple and working off the special effects angle it's perfectly reasonable to do a lethal amount of damage without converting the target to ashes in the same way a character using the same level of killing attack based on fire could. Taking enough fire damage to die doesn't mean you're ashes. Taking enough cold damage to die doesn't mean you shatter into a thousand un-rezzable meat cubes. Probably easiest way is to GM hand-wave it based on how far negative BODY they went and the targets importance to the story. That and the Reciprocity Dictum: Would you want this to happen to your character in this situation?
  15. This is a good point. I'd say if your disintegration ray is intended to convert targets to fine ash then it should be built as a severe transform. If your disintegration ray is built on 3d6 RKA then I'd say that it just disintegrates enough mass to be deadly. This would have inconsistent results on characters vs. cars and walls (which have rules for size of hole based on damage inflicted).
  16. I'd say the car is structurally intact, but functionally dead. Same with a character at negative body.
  17. Some viewers are upset by nearly anything as being upset has evolved into an art form over the last decade. I will now proceed to be upset that Peter Dinklage, my favorite actor of the show, has to be surrounded by an ungodly number of tall people. I will not calm down until there is equality among the tall and short.
  18. What I want to happen, so badly, is for Sandor to win with fire. It would be so fitting to destroy his brother the same way his brother scarred him mentally & physically for life. Even more fitting if this involved a flaming sword as Sandor became a chosen one of the Lord of Light.
  19. Perhaps an AoE, penetrating, other group sense - Sense Invisibility with a high roll and link to that an Images (only to create glowing outlines around invisible targets) triggered by sensing an invisible target.
  20. How much damage does an older model car do at 30 mph? NERDS assemble!
  21. My bad, didn't realize there were strict rules for this thread. So.... Captain Silo and the SMEs (cyber-psychic twins who suppress in computers and storage systems that which Captain Silo suppresses in minds) had just successfully pilfered the ability to operate motorcycles from the global collective. They were in the midst of working out a ransom deal with Harley Davidson when they were discovered by the Los Asesinos' transport expert - Moto Monkey. They soon discovered that their ability to suppress knowledge was of little value against the feral strength of Moto Monkey and his Me Wrench. They had to be identified by their Starbucks discount cards when they were finally found.
  22. Based on work today - Here is my new Villain Theme. Captain Silo and the SMEs. Their primary super-power? AoE Suppress Knowledge Skills and Professional Skills - megascaled to cover the globe / constant / persistent /always on. Captain Silo and the SMEs are information kidnappers. Nobody on Earth can know what they know and they ransom these skills back to corporations for megabucks.
  23. All Hail No One, 182,283rd of her Name, Taker of Faces, No Sayer to the God of Death, Needler of Many, Queen of the Andals and the First Men...
  24. She's recovering nicely now though she was extra spicy for a day or two.
  25. Decades ago when I was on a swim team I had a similar issue. Treading water was difficult and I could only do backstroke if I kept a certain amount of speed going. If I paused my feet would swing down and I'd drop to the bottom of the pool like a lazy yard dart. I do miss having a body fat that low though.
