I tend to think of myself as pretty knowledgeable on movies so when did Disney do Avengers Endgame or Avengers Infinity War (for example) beforehand ?

I was referring to re-releases of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Alladin, etc.

  2. I like CE a lot for this as I've been thinking it over.

One alternative idea that came to mind was a one-way mobile Barrier with the limitations that it only stops AoE attacks and if the attacker makes an attack roll at -X then the barrier fails to stop the attack.  Possibly more mechanically correct, but I think a CE with some GM generosity does the trick.

And in this case - I'm the GM.  :)

Learned this from Facebook this morning.  Thirty Eight Years ago today, George McDonald, Steve Petersen, and Ray Greer birthed the system we all know and love.  Cheers!

Got my grubby child hands on a copy just a year or two after that.

Played through high school and college and many years afterwards.

The problem with anything involving Time Limit is that it artificially bloats the Active Point value of the power without providing an advantage over the base power (since it's there to make the disadvantage work as desired).

I really would just set it as "Usable for up to five consecutive minutes, then needs hour to recharge (-1)" and be done with it.

That's the solution I recommended earlier.  Your concurrence identifies you as a soul of great wit and sagacity.

    Mad magazine:

So they're going the Disney route.

Where they keep re-treading movies they've already done.  :(

    Here's another idea of how to get this interaction without weird Limitation Rules interactions;

Endurance Reserve; 5 Minute Continuous Charge

Blast; uses END Reserve, Limited Power: Cannot be used for an hour after the END Reserves Charge runs out of time.

Probably the cleanest build I can think of without wondering how Delayed Use, Charges, End Reserves, Linked, or Unified Powers work together.

Don't be afraid to work with the GM to create Custom Limitations to get a more precision execution of your vision into the game. That's what "Limited Power" Limitation is for.

Expanding on this, unless I missed something earlier, wouldn't the OP also be able to just use:

Limited Power:  Can be used for up to 5 minutes and then requires a 1 hour recharging period (-1 ish).

  7. I was thinking a vortex of wind or something that would make it harder to consistently land an AoE attack where it was intended.

Attacks going off where they were not intended may make enemies reluctant to use them when the risk of annihilating their front line minions becomes apparent.

I suppose I could more cost effectively build it with something like a fully transparent barrier that only stops AoE attacks which would cause the explode-on-impact types to go off on the edge.  Great for grenades & fireballs.  Less useful for cones and lines.

    Hmm...

  8. Branching off from a previous thread I saw.

Would this work as a power?

    AID 10d6 (taking the average 30pts / +3 DCV <halved due to defensive ability>)

Area of Effect 8m radius (+1/2)

Limited Use:  Only to Increase the DCV of targeted hexes  (defaults to DCV 3 at range, 0 when adjacent).

I'm looking for a non-Barrier solution to dealing with AoE attacks.

  9. I like when there's a modest amount of role playing at the table.  I like my players to play characters and not character sheets.

A personality in a story - not a complex array of statistics and powers.

Additionally, experienced role players will keep their bits VERY short so they don't slow the game to the crawl acting out each moment of combat in painful detail.  It takes some skill and empathy for your fellow players to do this well.

  10. You can pay an extra +1/4 advantage for a second condition on a power with a Trigger to have a 2nd condition that will activate it.

Duplicate could set the 2nd trigger option to something like when I say Poof or when I snap my fingers.

That way they preserve their own ability to teleport and have something that will allow for your instant swap with the Real character.

It's the only planet in the universe known to harbor life. I think that counts for something.

I was about to say the same thing.

There *should* be life on other planets given the known universe is 90+ billion light years in diameter, but this is the only one we know about.

If we're really it for life in the entire universe - that would be a terrible waste of space.

Things like this always puzzled me.  A one shot con game run in a 4 hour game slot is not going to have character development.  Are there really people that expect otherwise?

Mileage will vary.  I recall one convention where I ran into members of an acting troupe that I had gamed with previously.  Our chosen characters had already met so they continued on like old adventuring veterans who had run into a fondly remembered ally of yesteryear.

The acting nerds were as much into acting out their actions as they were the combat.

I recall one got mind controlled to attack his ally - dropped him with a sneak attack and with his off-hand strike (D&D 5th ed) acted out cutting his throat for a double-death-save failure.  Even the guy getting his throat cut was into it.

Gamers vary wildly in what they enjoy - even with one-shots.

  13. Given how Defiler magic worked in the books I would model it like a large Aid to whichever magical ability was being used with the side effect that it kills nearby plant life and renders the ground barren for centuries.

Combine that with requiring spells in general to take the Full Phase extra time limitation, but having a naked advantage style buy-off for the time requirement when defiling.

Defiler magic was stronger and faster in the books at the cost of destroying the local environment.

I am wondering about another power.

As I understand it, having a low or high DCV of any type doesn't help at all against an AoE attack (please enlighten me if I am wrong about this), thus I would I properly buy/get +DCV vs. AoE attacks only?

There's technically no way to raise your DCV against Area of Effect attacks, but if your GM will approve the ability you might try something like a 8d6 AID to DCV - Area of Effect - Only to increase the innate DCV of the hexes around you (DCV 3 at range, DCV 0 when adjacent).

Could be a fun way to thwart the enemies that like single-hex AoE attacks just to bypass DCV.

  15. Is the duplicate being created with the Duplication power?

If so you might be able to have the real/primary character have just the teleport and then duplicates could have Teleportation built with the Trigger advantage to cause them to instantly teleport to where the real character was when he teleports to them.

That way you don't have to have such an expensive ability on the main character.

Should have been a casual strength thing: you bust through because on average you will always bust through.  Instead he made me roll when I should have been able to fail.

That was a 10 million-to-one roll of bad luck.

Can't blame the GM for assuming you would get through when the odds of you not getting through is thousands-to-one at least.

Have you had them try just using the modifiers to adjust the Result of the roll instead of trying to recalculate their Attack Rolls? Might work better.

I just ask them for their modified OCV / DCV.

Not sure why they're so math challenged, but to keep the speed of the game at a playable level I will crunch the numbers for them.

Probably. Or "Base Attack Roll is 11, you get 3 free bonus points, and buy more at 5pts per +1"

One of the reasons I like the 11+OCV-Roll presentation is it requires no information that isn't on your character sheet, and you do the math once, not every attack.

I find my players struggle a bit with modifiers from maneuvers.  Multiple attack, haymakers, grab, move through, etc.

Mostly I just ask for their maneuver modified OCV, tell them the difference between that and the opponents DCV and announce the number they're trying to roll under.  Saves time and confusion.

  19. I would cap the Summon at something like 1/2 the CP of the player characters (maybe even less).  Most players won't want to have their character surpassed by another character's conjuration.

Game balance gets tricky with Summon due to the highly disposable nature of the STUN/BOD of the summoned creature.  Cannon fodder is really effective.

The STOP sign on this power is well deserved.
