I don't quite follow that analogy. It seems to me the more apt analogy would be, "Hey, this kid likes to torture and kill small animals and pets, he's likely to grow up to be a serial killer."

    1. Trump's ban went after legals. People who'd been vetted and had green cards. That's not the same as deporting Illegals. That's rounding up Foreigners.
    2. Clinton's sex scandals and Trumps sex scandals aren't different. They both show signs of men of power treating women like objects. Clinton's cigar antics however were - as far as we know, consensual where as Trump bragged about sexual assault. Both have been accused of the latter and both are poor examples of humanity. Trump is looking to further the GOP backed initiative of telling women how to reproduce so that's something more than Clinton ever did to women.
    3. so both sides do the same thing, and? Is it only wrong with the other side does it? Because the same people angry now for the Lefts actions were doing the same on the right an this isn't even an argument. It's just noting that the ability so say the exact opposite thing you did when the tables were turned is a political tactic long used by both sides.
    4. Yates was doing her job. She was following the constitution. Clinton was doing her job she was a defense attorney. Yates's job is not to do what the President Demands. Which is what Senator Sessions questioned her about during her confirmation hearings in 2015. She was asked if she could do her job despite pressure from the President (At that time the other team) to do otherwise.

I recently finished Working for Bigfoot by Jim Butcher. It's a collection of Dresden shorts. The tone in these tends to be on the lighter side, and the stories seem relegated to the sidelines of the Dresden universe, at least for the time being. The price is a bit high for the page count, so might be worth trying to borrow rather than buy unless you're a completionist.

My dad just passed away. My belated condolences to those of you who have recently posted about losing family and friends. I know I don't always say something when one of you mentions the passing of a loved one but you're in my thoughts and prayers when you do. I'd appreciate it if you would pray for me now. Thank you.

Okay, when I made my original comment about Lynda vs. Gal, I was kind of joking. I did not intend to start some sort of body shaming flame war. If this discussion stops being civil I will start posting nudes of myself in all my wrinkly, spotted glory. You have been warned.

Kaspar, this is what I was talking about earlier in reference to fear.

It is not a steering wheel, it is an engine. Letting it guide is often disastrous, it is exactly what Trump needed his voters to do, fear, Islam is coming, war on Christmas, Mexicans, the MSM, fear fear fear.

The rational response is not more of the same.

Assess what is productive to oppose, do not obsess over what MIGHT be the future because of what is now:

Knowing what you don't care for now, seek useful ways to make yourself count. BUT, have a life as well. Everybody gets one.

History as we read it is not history as it was. Vast swathes of humanity, the vast majority, are not written into the histories we have, and we gain the illusion that leaders had more power than they truly did, were not themselves hemmed in by other influences, were not themselves hemmed in by their own actions or the image they must sell.

History occurs in the cracks as well as the heights. Don't become too fearful of what happens at the heights. It is very hard to see what is happening in the cracks from the heights. The great powers often have so little influence over ordinary life that they could honestly be said to have never existed for such people.

It is important to keep in mind that Buddhism became one of the most influential schools of thought in China not because of its temples, but because every attempt to surpress it took away those temples, took its worship out of the temples and hid it among the people, until it became so intertwined with the culture that it was impossible to separate from the culture.

Yes, there are bad things that have occured for many recently. But, those bad things are themselves working against the very culture that espoused them. That kind of thing does not often succeed. Usually, it ends badly for those seeking it.

This is the second time that you've mentioned suicidal thoughts in this thread. I don't want to offend you, but if you are having suicidal thoughts -- if that is in any remote way on your current list of options for dealing with any situation -- please seek out help.
