  1. I have a player with a newer version of the builder than mine. I have to admit I have not updated mine yet as its not know how much longer were playing champions. His has an option for the AOE advantage of Trail. We have been going around about how to build his Ice powers and one he wants is an AOE Entangle centered on him. So that anyone who comes close is entangled or any hex he moves through he leaves this entangle. He is buying it as Ice "Trail" Entangle: (Total: 69 Active) Entangle 2d6, 3 DEF, Area Of Effect Nonselective (Trail; +3/4), Continuous (+1) Is this how it should be bought to do it. I worry about it being over powered and he can attack every target on the field with a decent amount of movement. Secondary since he has not reduced the end does he pay end to attack every hex he crosses? Should it be bought mobile? Thanks
  2. Re: How much you playing? I was playing about 2 hours a night until this weekend when I got time for a marathon sesssion. Previous to this I had gotten a Telepathy/eldrich set to 17 and a might to 14. I put in about 7 hours on Saturday and got to the teens on a new character. Turned out to be my most successful character so far a mix of Force and Telepathy. Sadly I cannot seem to get into the game. While I love the ranged combat and I feel like I am playing an Energy Projector. I cannot stand the melee I do not feel like a Brick occasionally in trying to get to L14 I felt like Brick jr's Side kick. What kind of Sissy brick needs to block this much? I get it that I gave up in the lowbie levels and the characters get more powerful and have more powers post 25. But after the changes from beta and further changes post Freespec. I think I need to just wait it out for things to mature and the majority of the nerfs to be handed out so I can settle on something that might work. But it just did not hook me like that other super game. I love the voices. I love that you can get a mission by having someone walk up to you or find a clue in the salvage that starts a mission. Those are nice touches. I also like how the city seems to evolve as you level up. Great touches. But for me every oh cool was meet with an equal disappointment which I hope they clear up with time. Either CO works on it or COH makes things more interesting and less repedative and learns from the competition.
  3. Re: Disappointment I agree the open creation system of Champions and the complexity require a GM to balance each character. While its my favortie design system it requires some imagination to get the most from it which is also one of the hardest things for a lot of new players. Many lack the creativity or imagination. As far as CO game play I was expecting it to be a little more similar. But understand why a lot of things could not be done. I would have liked to have some real defenses on a ranged character. Or Play a Brick but I find the energy building concept great for simulating ranged Energy projectors to a "T". But not Bricks who need to get to melee to build up energy. In the PnP game I do not have to spam the Block manuever to feel like I have powerful defenses.
  4. Re: Well, I give up I have also can't stand the movement controls. I have played around with them for hours trying to get the movement and control I have in that other Super game. That and the nerf of the week. I decided to put my account on hold till things settle down so I don't have to do a lot of respec'ing.
  5. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG I was really thinking Majestic instead of supes. Keeps thinking.
  6. Re: Grond + Eclipse = 2 Gronds? This makes me think of my AD&D as GM and dreaming up breeding Basilisks and Hydra's.
  7. Re: "Sorry m'am, you'll have to check your hand grenades." Last time we hand to ship our Halo Spartan as Cargo since he is to large for the seat and cannot get out of his suit. The aircraft was attacked in mid flight by the bad gal. Yes the plane started to come apart (like thats a surprise super fight on an Airplane) but much to my surprise they got it to an airport minus only about 6 passengers. The bad gal did get away as they had to save the people.
  8. Re: Question on AutoFire HKA? On the first example its a whip. The second its just a great big strong Brick who just punches twice. HKA Auto fire 2 shots. No it does not have to be that END costly and you have nearly nailed the power i built but i added +1 stun and half END. Thanks all I suspected I had the right idea and had spent more to make sure I was legal. The first was a hero version 4 character I had converted from 14 years ago.
  9. Re: Question on AutoFire HKA? The character in the example has 45 STR and I did buy Autofire (3 shots on both) to be sure I was legal I was just wanting to make sure I did this right. Using the builder program it said it would be 4D6 with STR so I then was not sure if iI was doing this right or spending points I did not need to for this affect? Recently I started making a Mega villain with a 4D6 HKA Autofire 2 shots AKA left arm and right arm but realised I did not buy Auto fire on the STR. At this point I figured I should check and make sure I was doing this right. I understand that an HKA with advantages is more than 15 points per D6 and the STR active points needs to match the active points per D6 HKA. The second example the HKA is 75 points and the villain has 80 STR. So he can match the HKA point for point.
  10. Re: There's always one Given how many ways there are in this game to have DCV penalties and such. I can see many ways to handle this. My newest player is like this high DCV with tons of MA options which can send it higher. After my last game at least one player was going how can he do this or that and my calm manner helped resaure him this character was balanced and worked it only seems like he is teh uber. Later in the night the players learned how to take this guy down. But it means changing tactics not necessarily powers. Player envy of people who appear teh uber is not fun. Think of it like dodge ball the super fast guy who always hits and is a great player. Normally you do not stand a chance against him. But if you watch for your oppornity you can catch them at a lower DCV level. As far as the person having to much damage i don't know I use DC in my game as a loose guide and try to make sure everyone has about the same starting DC capacity. Normally i do not let people come in that much more powerful. I also let people know new characters have a play test period to make sure they work right and fit in with the group.
  11. I have a character with a 2D6 HKA Auto fire with STR it could be 4D6 and was not sure on how the STR applies. It looked on first read that you got your +STR for all of your shots. But I was not certain since I could see the potential for very larger numbers of shots and wondered if the STR needed to be bought Auto fire as well to keep up. Granted the STR cost in END could be aweful and self limiting. Thanks in advance.
  12. Re: Do you use miniatures? I also use hero clix for my game and have repainted and customised a few. I have not been buying boosters because many Comic shops in my area are selling singles clix. If your not concerned about the clix color most got for about a buck. the Rares or uniques can cost large but most run from .25 to 5.00. I will try to take some pictures of a few i have modified and post them.
  13. Re: Pretty Sailor Bulldozer Nice write up but I have a question about Healing Aid +0. Is this like Aid only Restores to orignial value but so you can repeat it? I thought healing and AID were seperate things now days but i am still relearning the rules.
  14. Re: Power Transfer for Novice Player Long a go this was my goal but it was easy to see how expensive she would be. So I made an alternate version. All the Ms Marverl powers aka flying Brick with some 3D6 Drain damage shields. I think i drained STR/END/REC the one GM mentioned that fighting me with other Bricks long term was not suggested. Since I would slowly disable them. Eventually she became my own version of Rogue with the same problems aka don't touch as the damage shields were always on.
  15. Re: WWYCD/W:The gift 20 points to spend where ever i want??
  16. Re: Treasure Trove of Cool Old Hero/Champions Stuff That I Found Thanks for reminding me they have all kinds of old stuff they never sold for all kinds of games. I will have to check it out. See if they have any of the new stuff i want (which i doubt).
  17. Re: What are you playing now? My last group I played the core Brick. Soulcatcher was a 70 STR (AP) brick with a Draining Damage shield. Hardened everything. She is a Rogue concept that I made. My other was a Neural Whip (Backlash) guy with stretching and some stunning energy blasts (no range) powers and 2d6 HKA. Currently in our soon to launch new game I have three contenders to start with. Magnitude a Mr Majestic/Superman take off classic flying Brick Amazing an energy blasting absorber that is incredibly beautiful and distracting. Then no one was going to play a mentalist or anything close to a classic mentalist. We have a Psi Blaster and a Technopath but no real mentalist. So it fell on me to make another alt. I have yet to decide which I will play the most. Mind Queen a multiform character with several very similar forms that have slightly different mental powers and one Brick form with none. The catch is she is unaware that she is a multiform (they all look the same) she just thinks she needs to focus to call up some of these other powers and considers the Brick form without mental powers from a secondary mutation to be a curse.
  18. Re: WWYCD: The Coverup Kill the side kick (of course it looks like an accident) (he accidentially beat himself to death) do some checking of my own then figure out how to make the most of this from Black mail. Ok I have been playing a little to much COV.
  19. Re: How to simulate FEAR Thanks I think I have a good starting point for supernatural fear.
  20. Re: How to simulate FEAR Yeah once you reach your -Pre or -30 which ever comes first that rule works. Your right you might want to drain EGO too. Double whammy there. Just wanted to make sure there was not a more established way to do this I had been missing.
  21. Re: How to simulate FEAR I thought of huge PRE but each use reduces its effectiveness. If i went this way i would take it only to simulate fear.
  22. I have read the book and Fear is not well covered it looks like there aer two main ways of ding it. 1) With Mind control but to get a stand and tremble in fear would take +30 it looks like. 2) Adjust their Presense to -30 or their -Pre rating. I am thinking supernatural fear here while not Cthulian horror/Sanity I am taking a glimpse of the nether world real spooky stuff. Something a Demon or undead horror might be able to do. I am also looking to simulate a few COH fear powers for you COH players. But i am looking for what this crowd feels would be the best way to do fear like this. My own attempts have been to have a Drain PRE but its like 2D6 AOE 2"r. And 2D6 is not going to get anyone down to -30. It would take about 3 rounds (with the way I roll) to get even a base 10 Pre to -10. Any power defense and this is not even close to working unless I bought cumulitive.
