    Re: Japanese Atlantis? What cracks me up is that there are similar rock formations along the coastline around the place, yet this wrinkly underwater slab is somehow different. I mean it's darn cool, no question about it, but sheesh. From a pulp perspective, though, it's definitely riddled with tombs and air pockets.

    Re: Okay, Lightsabres rule... but Star Wars is so-so. I once had lightsaber-equivalents that were also cutting tools (super-cold in this case). The length of the blade was variable. One way to make lightsabers reasonable without the Force is to have them (or some other device) generate personal force fields that only lightsabers can ignore. Gets you the Jedi defensive ability without precognition.

    Re: The Grand List Of Overuse Science Fiction Cliches Sometimes cliches become genre conventions. Like the Tolkein-rip "dark lord rising in the {compass direction}" cliche that got used so much, people started shrugging and accepting, or even expecting it.

    Re: Now that is a space suit... I'm holding out for skintight and transparent, but this is a forward step. In seriousness, I've wondered for awhile why the bulkiness of the 60's suit has never been significantly improved. I guess it was never a big priority when weighed against other considerations.

    Re: Orbital Skydiving! I once wrote a story about a guy who launched from the moon via external assist, free-traveled to Earth and ended in a skydive. It could work.
