  4. Re: The Death of Knowledge Skills: There are two points I would like to mention here: 1 - Most search engines have very little regulations on what goes on their sites. This means that anyone searching will need to dig through ALOT of info before they discover what they are looking for (assuming it can even be found at all). Another subpoint here - it is not up to the engine to guarantee that what goes on their site is either true or false - that belong upon the person/organization who posted. 2 - Even if someone can find something out there does not guarantee that he can use it. Discovering that steel is made of x% iron with y% carbon and further ways to modify it does not mean that you will be able to start making steel in your living room. The same applies to most things that exist out there - just because you can find out how it is made/done does not mean that one will be able to do it.
  5. Re: Teen Ice / Cold based Character Needed 1 - Ohladiti (Croatian for freeze) 2 - Female (15 yr old) 3 - Hero Here is a backstory that I have come up for her: Fabela Fumic was born to a Croatian upper-class business leader. Everyone thought that they were a pillar of society, at least until they shipped her off to America. Shortly after she was moved, her father was arrested, apparently ever since he was a young child he was skimming the books of the company that he worked for. Just before he discovered the police were about to arrest him, he could not get himself out, but he was able to get his only daughter out and to the only safe place that he hoped for - [Campaign City]. To pay for her time here, he gave her as much finances as he was able to transfer into her name, making her moderately well-off. Not long after she arrived, she discovered what happened to her father back in Croatia and why and took a personal vow to right the wrongs that he has made in any way that she can. About the same time, the stresses of the move combined with having someone try to mug her activated her latent mutant powers and she had froze the would-be mugger. When she realized what she had done, she took the name Ohladiti since that is the Croatian word for frozen.
  6. Re: What elements should a great superhero setting contain? The real question is just how powerful a campaign do you wish to run? The ones that i have had the greatest success/happiness in emulates reality in a minor way. Here are some things that i believe goes into a good story/campaign: 1) While i do believe that aliens exist, none have currently visited Earth, so i would not bring in aliens (except those that come from another country ). 2) If secret societies exist then they would need to obtain funding from private funds (if they get public funds then the public can find out about them - although that could be extremely difficult). 3) If mutants are introduced (give rational?) A) Does the public know? a) If yes, are they accepted or rejected by the mainstream population? If no, how do they hide themselves? Is there a method of detecting mutants & how does it work? C) How "out-there" are mutant powers/abilities allowed to get - only minor variations on normal humans, low-level comics, "standard" comics, high-powered comics? 4) Advanced tech - what is the nature of such? Who has it (gov, corp, indiv)? Hope that this helps you in creating your campaign. My two cents only - hope that it helps.
  7. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What left that print the size of an entire of an entire city block? A: I thought we were supposed to be having lobster for dinner.
  8. Re: Paralysed poison My first thought was a stun-only AVAD/NND blast (defense approp LS or counter agent). The effect of the attack would be that the target is paralyzed upon a successful hit. Might even put DOT on it if you desier to make it effect it over a period of time.
  9. In most SF programs it seems as though any ranged weapon will use some form of energy - be it laser, sonic, plasma, or some fancy sf energy. With only a few rare exceptions (ala Firefly) will this standard mold be broken. Even in such programs as Firefly, they have their energy weapons (they just do not play a major role). With this in mind I got wondering, is the future of modern projectile weapons limited? Are projectile weapons doomed to extinction, or is there some possible future with projectile weapons?

  13. Re: Answers & Questions Q: So that's why you never see superheroes during the day, HUH? A: The beast's number.
  14. Re: Armor, and it's place in highly futuristic Science-Fiction there will always be a place for armor. historic armors were heavy plate metal over leathers that tended to be rather hot and heavy. as time passed the protection factor eithor remained the same with a lower mass or increased thee protecton factor. as the weaponsmiths desire to increase either the penetration or damage (if not both) the armor will strive to defend those that it is supposed to protect. armorsmiths will desire to reduce the mass (encumburance), increase protection, or both in some form. ways that are being tested today involve plastics, new ways of weaving known fabrics, spider silk, among others. other methods used in sf involve fictional materials, energy fields, in addition to the methods to what was mentioned earlier. basically the race between weapons and armor will only terminate when the universe itself ends.
