  1. When I was young It seemed that life was so wonderful A miracle Oh, it was beautiful, magical And all the birds in the trees Well they'd be singing so happily Oh, joyfully Oh, playfully, watching me But then they sent me away To teach me how to be sensible Logical Oh responsible, practical And they showed me a world Where I could be so dependable Oh, clinical Oh, intellectual, cynical There are times when all the world's asleep The questions run too deep For such a simple man Won't you, please, please, tell me what we've learned? I know it sounds absurd Please tell me who I am Now watch what you say Or they'll be calling you a radical A liberal Oh fanatical, criminal Oh, won't you sign up your name? We'd like to feel you're acceptable Respectable Oh presentable, a vegetable But at night, when all the world's asleep The questions run so deep For such a simple man Won't you please (won't you tell me?) Please tell me what we've learned? (can you hear me?) I know it sounds absurd Please tell me who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am 'Cause I'm feeling so illogical D-d-digital One, two, three, four, five Oh oh oh oh Unbelievable B-b-bloody marvelous

Nothing really stood out to him until he stopped before a photograph that could have been taken from the overlook where his cabin used to stand. His eyes started taking in the little details. “I owe you an apology,” a woman's voice said from near his elbow. Jason turned to find Angelique standing several feet behind where he stood. She wore a full-length sleeveless green silk cheongsam dress. Dark gold dragons seemed to hold her breasts. Her shoes matched the green of the gown. Her hosiery was a lighter shade. Two bamboo sticks held her honey blonde hair up in place. Stepping closer, Angelique said, “I want to apologize for running off the way I did.” “At least there were no reports of a naked woman running from my place,” he said with a smile. “You look lovely,” Angelique dropped her head in acknowledgment of the compliment and smiled. “Thank you. Are you with any one tonight?” “No.” Her smile widened. “Good.” A waiter passed by. Jason took a glass from his tray and handed it to Angelique. “Did your issue get resolved?” “Honestly, I don't know. I did find out when and why it happened. And Boris said it was removed, but I haven't found the time or anyone worthy to test it. Yet,” she added giving him a little smile. “And I would like to repay you for your efforts on my behalf.” “I find I could use some company,” Jason admitted. “I've been spending entirely too much time inside my own head of late.” “So, what was it about this photograph that got your attention?” she asked standing closer. Jason caught the soft scent of jasmine. “It reminds me of a place I'm responsible for. Land my grandfather set up a conservatorship with the state of Colorado. A little off to the left I can see the stump of a tree that had died. Behind us a little way would be the cabin.” Angelique heard something in his voice. “It sounds lovely. I'd like like to see it sometime.” Jason nodded. “What happened to the cabin?” “Leah and I went up there a few years back. It was when we first met Trese. Saved her. Beat up the bad guys. And the one that got away burned it down.” “Oh. I'm sorry.” Jason smiled at her. “What brings you here tonight?” “Slumming,” she said with a grin. “Needed a night off from planning a bank robbery. We're going to hit one of the smaller branches and hope we get away with enough to buy lunch.” They started walking. Angelique slid her arm into Jason's. “How about if I take you someplace private and keep you occupied tomorrow? At least through lunch? That way I don't have to worry about tracking down a wanted bank robber.”

  7. A long, long time ago I can still remember how that music Used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride Something touched me deep inside The day the music died So, bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry And them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" Did you write the book of love And do you have faith in God above If the Bible tells you so? Now, do you believe in rock 'n' roll Can music save your mortal soul And can you teach me how to dance real slow? Well, I know that you're in love with him 'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym You both kicked off your shoes Man, I dig those rhythm and blues I was a lonely teenage bronckin' buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died I started singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" Now, for ten years we've been on our own And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone But that's not how it used to be When the jester sang for the king and queen In a coat he borrowed from James Dean And a voice that came from you and me Oh, and while the king was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned And while Lenin read a book on Marx A quartet practiced in the park And we sang dirges in the dark The day the music died We were singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" Helter skelter in a summer swelter The birds flew off with a fallout shelter Eight miles high and falling fast It landed foul on the grass The players tried for a forward pass With the jester on the sidelines in a cast Now, the halftime air was sweet perfume While sergeants played a marching tune We all got up to dance Oh, but we never got the chance 'Cause the players tried to take the field The marching band refused to yield Do you recall what was revealed The day the music died? We started singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" Oh, and there we were all in one place A generation lost in space With no time left to start again So, come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick Jack Flash sat on a candlestick 'Cause fire is the Devil's only friend Oh, and as I watched him on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage No angel born in Hell Could break that Satan spell And as the flames climbed high into the night To light the sacrificial rite I saw Satan laughing with delight The day the music died He was singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news But she just smiled and turned away I went down to the sacred store Where I'd heard the music years before But the man there said the music wouldn't play And in the streets the children screamed The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed But not a word was spoken The church bells all were broken And the three men I admire most The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost They caught the last train for the coast The day the music died And they were singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry And them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die" They were singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry Them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day that I die"

Charity events. Mix, mingle, and shake hands. One of the banes of Jason's existence. He had found one person he could discuss art with, but they got called away. He had met a few actors. They had been willing to talk about current projects and upcoming projects, but like a lot of other people here really didn't want to talk shop. It was an evening out. An attempt to enjoy himself, according to Trese. It wasn't working. He hated these things. A smile, a laugh that might have been hers brings with it the empty feeling of knowing she wasn't here. Each time he had to force himself to smile and carry on as if nothing were wrong. It made it even harder when someone would ask about her. Leah. He should have dragged Trese along. At least then he would have a buffer. There is nothing worse than being alone in a crowd. Eyeing the door as a possible escape, Jason checked his watch. He'd been here less than an hour. There was an art display on the upper floor. Jason made his way to the stairs. Several sculptures stood in roped off squares or on pedestals, depending on their size. Photographs and paintings covered the curved walls except for the doors that led to the auditorium.
  9. If I could make a wish I think I'd pass Can't think of anythin' I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound Nothing to eat, no books to read Making love with you Has left me peaceful, warm, and tired What more could I ask There's nothing left to be desired Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak So sleep, silent angel Go to sleep Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe And to love you All I need is the air that I breathe Yes, to love you All I need is the air that I breathe Peace came upon me And it leaves me weak So sleep, silent angel Go to sleep Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe And to love you All I need is the air that I breathe Yes, to love you All I need is the air that I breathe Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe And to love you All I need is the air that I breathe Yes, to love you All I need is the air that I breathe And to love you
  10. Love I get so lost sometimes Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart When I want to run away I drive off in my car But whichever way I go I come back to the place you are All my instincts, they return The grand facade, so soon will burn Without a noise, without my pride I reach out from the inside In your eyes The light, the heat (in your eyes) I am complete (in your eyes) I see the doorway (in your eyes) To a thousand churches (in your eyes) The resolution (in your eyes) Of all the fruitless searches (in your eyes) Oh, I see the light and the heat (in your eyes) Oh, I wanna be that complete I wanna touch the light, the heat I see in your eyes Love, I don't like to see so much pain So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away I get so tired working so hard for our survival I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive And all my instincts they return And the grand facade, so soon will burn Without a noise, without my pride I reach out from the inside In your eyes (your eyes, your eyes) In your eyes In your eyes The light, the heat (in your eyes) I am complete (in your eyes) I see the doorway To a thousand churches (in your eyes) The resolution (in your eyes) Of all the fruitless searches Oh, I see the light and the heat (in your eyes) Oh, I wanna be that complete (in your eyes) I wanna touch the light, the heat I see in your eyes In your eyes In your eyes In your eyes In your eyes (in your eyes) (In your eyes) In your eyes (in your eyes) In your eyes (in your eyes)

“She should have let me shoot him in the head,” Karin said. Pouring drinks, Pierre said, “Ever ze louve. Your way is messy, no? My way is cleaner and keeps our Lady's word. I let him go.” “Where?” Karin asked. She took her drink and downed it. “A walk of a mile or so to return to town.” “Cleaner?” Pierre smirked and pointed down. “All he need do is learn to breathe underwater. The Lady will be in no further danger from that wolf.” Karin's brow furled. “His name. He was calling himself the wolf sorcerer.” He in turn downed his drink. “Ah, Captain. Our Lady is well pleased and leaves you this in thanks.” He set a think envelope on the bar. “My companions and I will be departing momentarily.” A portal opened revealing a luxury hotel suite. “Adieu,” Pierre bid the captain. Then he and his companions stepped through and the portal closed.
  15. If looks could kill then I know she would She's playing the part, you know it's understood I know the second glance was my first mistake I took the chance that I had to take Fire in her eyes made my blood run cold She took me by surprise and I'm Spellbound, dreaming of you all the time Spellbound, feels like I'm falling over the line Spellbound, will my head be clear by the morning light I don't make promises that I can't keep But I better think it over, I'm in way too deep I'm shook up, paralyzed by her icy stare, long legs and golden hair Late night love is on my mind She took me by surprise and I'm Spellbound, dreaming of you all the time Spellbound, feels like I'm falling over the line Spellbound, will my head be clear by the morning light I'm on a one way ride to where I just don't know She put a spell on me, the fantasy comes and goes I clear my head in the morning light Start all over when I feel alright I've gotta shape up before it's too late I think I'm losin' my mind and I'm Spellbound, can't find a reason, can't find a rhyme Spellbound, give me a signal, show me a sign Spellbound, will my head be clear in the morning light
  16. I see a red door And I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes I see a line of cars And they're all painted black With flowers and my love Both never to come back I've seen people turn their heads And quickly look away Like a newborn baby It just happens everyday I look inside myself And see my heart is black I see my red door I must have it painted black Maybe then, I'll fade away And not have to face the facts It's not easy facing up When your whole world is black No more will my green sea Go turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing Happening to you If I look hard enough Into the setting sun My love will laugh with me Before the morning comes I see a red door And I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes I wanna see it painted Painted black Black as night Black as coal I wanna see the sun Blotted out from the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted Painted black, yeah
