  1. Re: Games gone awry Kawanga Kid...I was playing Son of Satan in Mark's Champs game at Pacificon. Do you remember when Tang made all of the copies of Mark's badge on the color copier? We were all paranoid because there were five "Mark's" sitting at the table out of 12 players. I think I still have that badge some place...

Re: Wwycd #89 Brother Eagle has to be brought to justice. His past injuries and emotional issues have made him unstable. He has clearly crossed the line between justice and criminal.
  3. Re: WWYCD #90: Brainwave Time to start using that saved XP and buy some crazy INT based skills!
  4. Re: Wwycd? #84 Blast the crap outta dem thugs. Plain and simple.
  5. Re: Games gone awry Now, when the GM has ticked me off I've done some crazy things. I remember one convention game of Champs way back when. The players were actually ticking me off so I turned on them and killed the guy who was ruining play for everyone. The Gm didn't seem to think it was wrong and turned a "blind eye" as I brutalized the PC. The player kept pleading with the GM to have me stop and also tried to rally his friends to come to his aid. They knew he was a pain too and just let me wipe him out. After that, the game was great.
  6. Re: Games gone awry A couple of observations...first, its a convention game which generally means that even good players lose their minds and act the fool. Second, the game was probably a blast to run AND play because the latitude the GM gave the players. I've experienced games where the GM is wound pretty tight and controls every move to fit the preconcieved scenario. I've also had the best time when playing in games that were loosely controlled and the GM was savvy enough to let the players direct the flow of the game.
  7. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #68 My old character would have waited for the point when MS defeated the villain and, being totally exhausted and beaten from the effort of fighting the HFB, taken the liberty of "stabbing him in the back" and try to destroy him. TV media or not, this guy is a villain and only did what he did to gain control of the world. His motivations were less than altruistic. He gets wasted witht he rest of the scum.
  8. Re: Things that work in comics but don't work in Champions I'm playing a character with no resistant defenses and I have had no problem. If you understand that you cannot wade into the thick of combat you will do fine. I play a support role. I am not the guy to go in there and deliver the smack down. I do not put myself in positions where I have to rely on resistant defenses. If you play it smart, you won't have a problem.
  9. Re: Campaign levels We've gone from the 375 pt range (1st through 4th Ed.) to the 250 pt range (same editions) for the last Champions campaign we ran. My group is still poo-pooing the 5th Ed. I find it to be fine and they forget that they did the same thing when 4th Ed. came out many years ago.
  10. Re: Map Makers I've played with the same group for over 20 years. We have used maps off and on over that time. Only recently (the last couple of months) have we been using a battle mat. The problem in the past was that the map was left at someone's house, etc. That prompted me to buy my own and bring it when I can makeit to the sessions. It was always much more effective for close combat situations. Our group has also grown quite large reently and the use of a map helps those new players understand what combat "looks" like.
  11. Re: Is this overkill? I don't think that your adversary sounds unfair. You cannot create a single opponent who wil lay down like a patsy. I would suggest using this guy as the teams nemesis. If you say he is a vigilante, then he can step in before the hero team gets to certain situations and "steal" their thunder. He can be a combat as well as a non-combat adversary for them. I would refrain from prolonged battles with the team. When you do engage them in combat, knock a few out and then take off. It will incense the team. Your guy sounds like a good opponent for them. I'd be interested to hear how the team deals with him...
  12. Re: Using COMliness Kawanga Kid: Hey man...why not just use COM like a PRE attack? If you scare the poop out of someone, you should be able to impress the heck out of someone with your tremendous beauty. Bring on the COM attacks!
  13. Re: Need a name for a Empath I have a character that is almost identical. I call him "Rapport". Healing powers and telepathy. A very good support character for all of the tougher mainline characters.
  14. Re: Equipment END tally card PDF available Thanks for the cards. I liked the overall site as well. Cool resources and interesting reading. Thanks again!
  15. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #64: Shooting Star I would follow the alien at a discreet distance. I would then wait for a more appropriate time to approach the alien and make contact. If my contact resulted in the same type of reaction (aggressive, etc), I would engage the creature ion combat and attempt to subdue him without using lethal force. If that did not prove successful, lethal force would have to be used. However, if I just get my tail whipped, I would call for reinforcements and have the alien subdued and then debriefed to determine his intentions.
  16. Re: Bulky Powered Armor I had a character based on the Japanese Anime movie "Madox: Metal Skin Panic" I gave him a level of growth, a level of DI and disads that would reflect the fact that the armor was very bulky (Phys: cannot fit into standard doors, corridors, etc). That was all on old 3rd and 4th Ed rules though.
  17. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #63 Alex Raven would attempt to coerce the young mutant to stop and join the super group he belongs to. We are a dark style group that would use his aggressive nature to bring down villainy by any means necessary. Rapport would attempt to establish a telepathic link and attempt to learn why he doesn't want to return to a child-like state.
  18. Re: What would you character do... Hmm...Alex Raven would probably join up with the Super team to bring down those that have kept the majority from having a "voice" in the world. Rapport would try to stay out of the way of the big league players and do what he has been doing to take care of street crime.
  19. Re: Things a wise super hero should NEVER say My favorite..."That's not gonna hurt."
  20. Re: Champions-clix anyone? Awesome...worked up my oldest Champions character...got 192 for a total...that's a lot.
  21. Re: Help: Sniper Syndrome Personally, I would opt for the Egoist with Mind Scan, Ego Attack, and loads of Mind Control. Mind Control your sniper player into taking out his own hero buddies. It'll put a lot of pressure on him from the other end, his fellow comrades. You could also let the egoist find him and divert the villain team to his area. Take the fight directly to him and remove the element of distance. Do that a couple of times and he may rejoin the fight with the group. Having him singled out by the villain group a couple times and see what happens.
  22. The group I have been gaming with has been together for over 20 years now. We began using the hit location tables when Danger: International came out way back when. Since that time we have used the hit location table and all of their modifiers in all facets of our gaming campaigns. It truly gives the characters an opportunity to score a "miracle" hit against the opponents. It also gives the uber hero the chance to blow his hit and nail the big villain in the hand. It kind of levels out the playing field for many of our characters. We can also aim for various locations. Your "bullseye" type character will have new challenges added as he attempts to hit the villains in the head. He can also now aim for the hand to knock that gun out of their grasp. The tables have added a lot to our games. I highly recommend their use!
  23. Just another blip really. I've had knee caps "removed", an entire arm "lost", and an entire body "misplaced" over the years.
  24. Make sure he didn't bleed on my floor. Blood stains are the devil to get out of shag carpeting. Screeching tires?? Nothing new in my neighborhood. I would call the authorities and inform them that the President's supposed assassin is dead on my door step and could they kindly come and remove the refuse. Being a total conspiracy theorist, I would have no problem believing the theory that the VP is a bad guy. I would inform my "team" (using the term very loosely) and set out to expose the VP. If that didn't work, I would begin constructing a plan to assassinate the VP.
