I don't know if you have access, but some of these golden age adventures used to be online. See if your friend has something from that time period he might want to play like the Ray, Captain America, Samson, or the Whizzer. That will help with what kind of powerset he needs.

it puts me in mind of Land of Confusion, but I will take Brothers in arms so we don't have to have Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner

The Mysterion is a hero that may be a walking suit of armor, or a gas in a bag, or a fancy trickster. He appears in a cloud of mist, and disappears just as quickly. His calling card is a bowl of goldfish.

The creature known as Query is a machine intelligence that has gained sentience. Its desire is to spread across the universes and devour anything in its way. Gaining control of magic, then designations of natural law, has made that quest all the easier as it can use natural leylines across any world to build its magic using drone army to slay the inhabitants. Then it breaks up the planet for new material to stage the invasion of the next universe

One of the adaptions of Alistair McClean. Those were some good books and some good movies. There were spies and moles everywhere, fast plots, and smart heroes.
The Guns of Navarone, Force Ten From Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, The Satan Bug, Breakheart Pass were all adaptions of his novels. The weakest was the Satan Bug, but they were good movie adaptions too.
The Guns of Navarone had Gregory Peck leading a team into the Med to stop giant cannons from firing on the fleet that was sailing to back the invasion of Europe.
Force Ten had Harrison Ford and Robert Shaw trying to figure out who was leaking information in the Greek Resistance while trying to blow up a dam.
Where Eagles Dare has Clint Eastwood as a clueless lieutenant ordered to help Richard Burton's Major infiltrate a mountain fortress, but that's not what the plot is really about.
The Satan Bug has someone steal a biological weapon and the efforts of the government to get it back before it can be sold or used.
Breakheart Pass has Charles Bronson posing as a criminal being transported on an army train with a hidden mastermind onboard willing to kill anyone in his way.
I think MacClean died and his estate or his publisher commissioned books based on his old plots but I didn't pick them up. Essentially the same as Robert Ludlum, and now Tom Clancy.

He is known as Peppy. He is the perfect infiltrator, capable of mimicking any other species and gain their powers for his own. No one suspects the pigeon in the sky of being the spy taking their valuables and escaping. And for added terror, Peppy can mimick two different species at the same time which gives him deadly combinations like the Mole Shark or the Tigerilla or his favorite Electric Squirrel

Sorry DT. I just noticed this.
The Thin Man is a movie based on a book written by Dashiel Hammet, the same man who wrote the Maltese Falcon. The plot of the movie is Nick and Nora Charles are enjoying Nora's wealth while on vacation. Nick is a retired policeman who has cracked some whodunnits in his time. He's also friends with Wynant, a rich engineer. When a partially destroyed body is found in Wynant's lab, and Wynant missing, Nick is drawn into the investigation. At the end of the movie, he gathers all the suspects for a dinner so he can explain what he knows and get some answers to his remaining questions.
Whenever you see Monk, or Shaun Spencer, or the detectives in Death in Paradise do something like this where the crime is laid out and the killer tricked into confessing, this is one of the first examples of it being done.

csyphrett got a reaction from death tribble in Dungeon Draft: October 2019
Five highlights for my dungeon are:
1) The Fish Tank: Numerous predatory fish are kept in a closed section of the Facility. From the Megalodon, to the Lake Placid Monster, each creature has its own space with plenty of fish to eat. Each separate section can be opened from the top but it is not recommended.
2) The Asylum: A few people have been experimented on. They have suffered mental breaks from reality. They are kept locked in and cared for by the staff so they can't use their powers and cause a breakout. That would be disastrous for both the Facility and New York City.
3) The Grimoire: The Facility has gained custody of magic using fiends/magicians/weird entities. They are kept on the other side of the Asylum in special traps and and cells. They are monitored to prevent the inmates from mixing with the Asylum across the place.
4) The Zoo: The Facility's major area is for the care of monsters and unnatural creatures that it has collected over the years. This is a major area of concern since some of the giant monsters breaking loose would naturally wreck the cells of the other prisoners.
5: Self Destruct System: If the system is breached, and there is a chance of some of the monsters and fiends escaping, the Facility can be destroyed with a mix of antimatter and nuclear fuel. It is assumed that a part of the city would just develop a sinkhole and part of the harbor would be radioactive.
No one knows.

Brexit wasn't done as a voting measure. It was done as a poll. Dave Cameron just said we're going to do this thing that the poll wants us to do. And then he bailed instead of seeing it through and dropping it on May, and then Johnson. Both of these people have reputations for being stupid in different ways.
This is the reason that some of the Brits and Scots that I have seen online have gone back to calling Cameron a person who has sexual congress with pigs.

When DC restarted the Blue Beetle, they based him out of Chicago instead of his native Hub City. This appealed to Tracy Karr. She loved that her city had a hero that lived there and protected it. When she discovered the Book of Atum Re and recreated the Scarab of the Sun, she decided that she should be a real Blue Beetle. DC was not amused and ordered her to cease and desist using the Blue Beetle name.
She took on the name Solar Scarab, but some still call her Fangirl
