Both are relative unknowns to the general public - that is, if you live in the Marvel Universe you're unlikely to have heard much about either of them; Jubilee because she's an X-Man (a group not known for seeking out the spotlight), and Black Widow because she moonlights as a spy (another group not given to excess publicity). And yet when Black Widow, in costume, provkes generally positive reactions - doubtless the figure under the costume helps . Jubliee, on the other hand, provkes fear and hatred even when she uses her powers to save the onlooker and they can, therefore, safely assume she's not there to harm them. "The public hates mutants." "Why? Well, there are mutant supervillains!" "What about Doc Ock, or Loki, or Titanium Man, or the hundreds of other non-mutant supervillians? Of course they're bad, they're villians!" "Why don't people fear Thor, or Mr. Fantasic, or Iron Man? They don't have to, those guys are heroes!" "What about Cyclops and Storm? Of course the public hates them, they're mutants!" "Who cares if they are heroes too, they're mutants..." No internal logic or consistency at all. It. Does. Not. Make. Sense. Lazy writing, I tell you.

Re: Why Don't The Villains Kill? Besides, the Joker is well aware that Batman is just as crazy - in his own way - as he is. There's a sort of odd kinship there. Besides, Batman being absolutely incapable of deliberately killing is a strong defense for the Joker. He knows his current nemesis won't kill him no matter what he does to Batman and company. If he takes out Batman, whoever takes his place might not be so accomodating...

Re: Honorable gangsters? You can even have the honorable vs. dishonorable factions within the same criminal organization. The old guard, who still believes in keeping the faith with the family both up the ladder and down, vs. the young guns who want it all and want it NOW!

Re: You Don't Have to be Crazy to be a Superhero, but it Helps! Mutant paranoia was a great metaphor for racism in the '60s. Now it has become an exucse for lazy writing. No matter how many times the X-Men (mutants) save the world - or even reality itself - they are still hated and feared. No matter how many times Dr. Doom tries to take over the world, verty few hate and fear Iron Man or Reed Richards... in spite of the similarities. Sure, there's more organized crime than street heroes. But organized crime always looses. It's not like OC vs. the police, where the police have to react to specific incidents; street heroes can be much more proactive. Look at the Punisher for a good example of this. Over 40-some years you'd think they'd have made a significant dent in it by now... Case in point: from the Punisher's point of view, the Kingpin would look really good through the aiming reticle of a TOW missile...

The people who thought COM was useless start jumping all over the people who thought COM had a purpose and insisting WE are the ones in the wrong. Same thing every time it comes up. I'm out, guys, I'm not even going to lurk on this thread anymore. The script is being followed to the letter, and I have no desire to watch this D-grade film to its end yet again.

Names were called, fights were picked, and numerous people were banned, most temporarily, some permanently. Others exiled themselves out of anger over the subject, and how they were treated by people on the other side of the fight. A few went so far as to go back and delete every single post they ever made before they left. Yes. Tempers really did run that high. In short... there can be no civilized discussion of this topic. So don't try. If you're interested, the threads might still be around somewhere, or you can PM people who were here at the time and see if they're willing to discuss it. Don't be surprised if they won't, though.

Re: What would you do if you were a mutant? In this world, anyone that different is going to be hunted down and either killed or studied... IF it is known they are that different. So it depends on how hard it is to conceal your mutation, and how hard it is to control your powers.

Unless I'm playing in a party of superman-tribute characters who can all fly at hypersonic speed and survive in space so we have a shot at trying to stop all the missiles, it's pretty simple. Grab a lawn chair, head up to the airport, and get a front-row seat of the fireball. What kind of idiot would want to (try and ultimately most likely fail to) live in a post-nuclear wastland? Whoi would want to survive the death of all that was near and dear to them? What would the point of it be? Go ahead. Reset the darn campaign and start over, says I.

Re: So: What Superpowers would your Parents get if they had a "Radiation Accident" I can see my mom getting a very hulk-ish power set. She's got quite the temper, and she's not afraid to use it. Either that or sonic powers similar to Banshee; she's halfway there even without powers! I know what superpower my mom would want my dad to get thought: Memory! (not necessarily Eidetic Memory, it would just be nice if he'd remember something...)

Re: Last Dance With Mary Jane... Whatever dire need brought an urbanite like Vigil out into the wilds in the first place is vastly more important. Other things to do, moving along. Now if, for whatever reason, the people growing the pot turn up and start something, he will not hesitate to finish it. But that's the kind of guy he is when you hassle him.

Re: How was it in the store? The explosion is making an entrance. The ostriches are obvious distractions from whatever he's doing. But you raise a valid point. Just letting him go after bombing a quickie-mart isn't a good option. Once we're off camera it's on.
